some congregations were known as liberal and others were considered very conservative.
back in the 1970s a nearby congregation made all speakers who gave public talks a white shirt to wear.
if a speaker came in wearing anything but white they were brought into the library and were given a white shirt!
OH Yes!
This thread has me both shivering nervously with PTSD and laughing at the same time because of the ridiculousness of some local "rules"...
1) Sisters will NOT wear boots - because "prostitutes wear boots!"
2) Brothers who do not get a minimum of 7 hours on their reports will "NOT hold microphone duties". 10 hours for the sound cabinet.
3) Full suit only on the stage or while doing "assignments". NO sportscoats.
how many times did we hear the worn out expression "that anyone who accepts the "truth" needs to have the 3 h's".
yes, they must be "honest hearted.
hungry for truth, and humble enough to accept that they need to change".

But how ironic?!
How many witnesses would truly apply those qualities if FACTS about their religion were shown to them?
Perhaps we need to add another H into the mix?: Hypocritical....
just curious how we all think.. what prompted or influenced your choice of username for this forum?.
there are some really amazing names, and it would be great to hear the stories behind them.... mine was nothing fancy.
i just felt "stuck in a rut too" along with so many others.
Thanks Anders! (or shall I say Alfonso??)
who do you believe is financially benefiting from watchtower business dealings.
i know about the gold apple watch, but that is only a small percentage of the billions that they have.
so who do you think is keeping all of this money.
Great work @wake me!

Hey @wake me up before you jo-ho, you know "you gotta have faith faith faith, you gotta have faith"....
i left the religion back in 2008 right after my mother died,( the total lack of natural love/ affection was the final straw for me).. but my dad has become more and more focused on doing the wt bidding.. it just amazes me how he gushes on and on about the last days, his new bible studies, and meeting parts .
but yet he makes no effort to have any type of relationship with his grandkids, there are 5 of them , non are witnesses.
they are the children from several different sisters of mine, and myself.. so how do you deal with the witness stuff always being presented in conversations?.
Very moving replies on this thread!
It is probably one of the hardest things to comprehend...that our aging family would rather bury their heads in the sand than accept TRUTH.
When I calmly raised the topic of why we don't go to meetings, my elder father snapped back "I think this topic is over!" He then said "Son, I love you and would die for you" I cut him off and said "Dad, I call garbage on that, because Im not asking you to die for me, but rather to simply have a calm and rational conversation...but you wont do that. So that seems hypocritical"
hello community!
quick background - baptized 1971, 46 years in the borg, former elder.
wife - baptized 1973, pioneer...... we became disgusted with the oranization 10 years ago but still believed it was the truth.
DUDE!!!!!
That mirrors our story so much!! Really freakishly similar indeed!
Oh wow....

Yes, the culture or "ratting" others out is not only alive and well, it is PRAISED and PROMOTED! You watch, that young sister has probably been given huge pats on the back.
BUT, Its not a cult or anything?!?
i’ve been hearing from several very reliable sources that there will be an exclusive elite gala entertainment event hosted by the watch tower organization, featuring specially chosen jehovah’s witnesses of outstanding talent as well as spiritual reputation, at the sony centre (formerly called the o’keefe centre) in toronto, ontario (canada) as a special “after hours” addition to the 2017 special international convention.. those chosen have to meet very strict criteria, including, not so much technical and popular talents, but, rather, their spiritual maturity which can be easily and practically related to by the audience (i.e., degree of conformity – you know what i mean!).
a notable and very well-known professional “super star” from some other country (i don’t know which one) who has achieved highly recognized and popular talent was surprisingly not chosen to participate in the extra entertainment program, whereas other performers with rather ho-hum musical abilities ended up being selected, ostensibly for their altruistic and “theocratic” qualities.
(something tells me that there is going to be some jealousy and indignant, hard feelings over this rather authoritarian, arbitrary selection process.
Yes, these "events" happen at the time of every international convention.
Don't worry all, as with all other times, videos WILL end up on youtube.... they always do....
We can then all have a fun laugh dissecting the stupidity of it all.

Wow these are great!
It feels like we have got to know one another better while getting an insight into our thinking processes.
