NWT - revised 1984 vs revised 2013 versions
by Tallon inin the latest 2013 revision the footnote of john chapter 8 states; a number of ancient and authoritative manuscripts omit vs 53 (of chapter 7) to chapter 8, vs. 11.. yet the 1984 revision quotes a similar footnote, however the passage of scripture is included in the text, albeit separately at the bottom.
this passage of scripture is about the scribes and the pharisees who brought a woman that was accused of adultery before jesus to test him on the punishment to be meted out.
then came his famous reply; let the one of you that is sinless be the first to throw a stone at her.. i just found it interesting that the wtbts would leave this out in the latest revision.

It's not just what has been left out, but what has been added!
(didn't revelation condemn those who add or take away from the book?)
In the section called "outlines of the chapter", for Acts 15 they include the term "letter from the governing body". That term has never appeared in the bible, yet the society now includes it. No doubt in an attempt to manipulate the idea of the current Governing Body.

Study with an Elder - propose a question.
by CitizenofEarth inhello there.. as some of you might remember i am keeping my facade up by "studying" with an elder.
this study however is more of a session where i put hard questions about the org, doctrine and so on, on the table.
the time has come for the next session in a couple of days, and i have quite frankly lost the will to keep digging up things that just shouldn't be happening.

"Brother----, as we know, 'God's people should be neutral in all political issues right? So may I respectfully ask, how did you reconcile the fact that the society were members of the United Nations (the scarlett coloured beast in revelation), and agreed to all their charters, goals, aims and mission statements?"
"and, how did you feel when you found out that kingdom halls in many south American countries fly the national flag in order to avoid a small monetary fine, while in the past witnesses were persecuted and died for much less?"
"I am finding it hard to reconcile such issues, so brother-----, HOW do you do so?"

Simply ask "When you learned of the fact that the society were signed members of the United Nations, how did you come to terms with it?"
Or any one of the hot topics.
Perhaps if they are a parent:
"So when you learned about the scores of child sexual abuse cases that were mishandled, and the millions of dollars being paid out by the society, how did you reconcile this in your mind?"
By doing that, you are already establishing your statement as a FACT, and the only topic is how they handled it. (The reality is, many will not know of those topics, so it will cause mental gymnastics to occur in their minds that they may then go and research later)

by stuckinarut2 inhow can we briefly make a calm, dignified point to witnesses we care about such as family or friends?

Perry, with respect, not only does the Watchtower have a "gaping hole in their theology that you can drive a London city bus through it", but so too does the bible itself.
The bible is full of gaping holes. The concept that it is "God's word" is flawed.
However, for the purposes of opening a JWs mind, those scriptures in my opening post may help establish a groundwork for a discussion to take place that can lead to them seeing that the GB are not spokesmen for an Almighty God...

True LHG. True.
I guess this method is something I want to try not just to attempt to reason with a witness, but also to show them that "we" (ie all of us that have seen the 'truth' and left), have not done so over some personal slight, but due to valid "scriptural" reasons.
Now I don't personally subscribe to the bible or any belief structure nowadays, but using the bible is a way of establishing a foundation for discussion and disarming those still in.
