The forgotten victims in Job
by Saltheart Foamfollower inafter todays watchtower, i realised that there was a detail which i'd never noticed before.
sometimes job's children are mentioned, but how many have noticed that job's servants were also killed.
they didn't even have a quantity assigned to them - just treated like property.

You are quite correct Saltheart!
The whole fictional account is flawed in many ways, including the outright promotion of the acquisition of wealth and property as being good!
In fact, the account goes to great lengths to say that GOD ALMIGHTY blesses with MATERIAL wealth. So how does that translate to Witnesses in JW org today? The GB keep saying that it is NOT the personal aquisition of status or wealth that proves one's value in God's eyes?
And as you point out, the ACTUAL people are not important, it is just their "value" as a commodity that is highlighted (applies to both the children and the slaves etc)
BUT, this "factual biblical account" is supposed to prove that "Jehovah is Loving??"
Why did Jehovah even need to place a wager or have this bet with Satan anyway??

Thoughts from the International Summer Convention in Romania
by cookiemaster inwe just had a huge international convention here in romania.
at least huge by local standards.
22,000 in attendance in one location and around 44,000 throughout the country.

Ah yes!
"It is "faith-strengthening" to see the UNITY in teachings worldwide"
Which actually means:
"Nothing says CULT more, then when exactly the same propaganda material is dispensed with no variation all around the world"
Thanks for your summary. I can add this to my knowledge, so if asked by still-ins, I will know the content of the program and can bluff a response.

Over 300 DFed apparently went to a northern U.K R.C!
by Isambard Crater inthat's what i've been told by a family member (elder) who went to one of the regional conventions in the north of the u.k lately, who told me the 300 or more disfellowshipped who returned to jehovah by attending show that the end is so close, just like the final talk says..

Have you noticed this trend on social media amongst witnesses...?
by stuckinarut2 init seems that every 2nd witness often posts pictures of themselves at conventions, or out in 'service'.
but i have noticed that they never seem to post anything about the actual "spiritual content" of their activity!
instead, it is pictures of them with their witness "friends", along with some contrite comment like #bestlifeever (arrghhh).

Why don't they post content about the teachings or talk material?
Is it that they just don't care about that, and that their real focus or value is the relationships?
Or is it that they don't want to come across as being "over-righteous" or "super-spiritual"?

I wish I had not gone to the meeting last night
by stillin inthe first thing i saw when i went in was the two video screens having the watchtower singers chorus doing a number.
the sound wasn't up enough to make out the song, but the video was grotesque.
the singers were swaying to the music, all independent of each other, no discipline, actually sloppy-looking.

It genuinely boggles my mind to think that witnesses simply eat this crap up!
HOW do they not see the blatant manipulation in those propaganda videos??

I went informal witnessing today
by Chook ini go to the local mcdonald's for a strong latte and raisin toast and i perched my feathers on a corner seat noticing a older european guy in a suit sitting by himself, so i move next to him and said it was warmer this chair.
i say you on business matters mate, he says ya but seemed only interested in his news paper.
i knew he was jw because jw assembly hall is not in a business district.

Their standard reply nowadays is "go to JW.org" for more information.

If the GB members over the years all had children, would the DF / Shunning policy be softer?
by stuckinarut2 injust a question i was pondering:.
most of the gb over the years, from the time of rutherford right through to today, have not had children i think?
(correct me please if i am wrong).

Great replies.
Yes, maybe I was being too generous or hopeful in my outlook.
As many have said, their track record does show that they will never be anything except hard hearted

Just a question I was pondering:
Most of the GB over the years, from the time of Rutherford right through to today, have not had children I think? (Correct me please if I am wrong)
The bond of love a parent has for their child is one of the strongest ever.
So would the hard-line stance of shunning (particularly one's own children) of those who leave the society, be softer if they all had children?
Thoughts?
