Saying hello for first time

i have been sneakily looking at this forum, almost every day, ever since it began!

it has taken me till now to actually register and contribute.

(actually i did register with a different name in the beginning but never commented).. i am a pimo elder with a fairly long history of senior "positions" in the organization.

This is a great community, made up of a great variety of people who have travelled the road with you. We understand what it is like to have the very foundation and stability of one's life called into question - simply by facts and reason and logic.

Enjoy this new chapter of life! One that frees you up to genuinely use analytical and critical thinking skills.

The most important thing is to let go of the FOG (Fear Obligation Guilt) that riddles us as born-in witnesses, and stifles any growth.

Once that is let go of, we can truly grow!

I agree. Having tried to have conversations with my father, an elder for decades, and now 70.

He is a smart man in all other aspects of life, but as I shared some points of TTATT, he simply shut it down with "I am NOT going to have someone shake my faith. Your apostasy has gone too far!"

So, logic, facts, reason and proof have NOTHING to do with the mindset of the average witness.

Be loyal when a relative is disfellowshipped

well.....they showed that shunning video again.

you know...the one where goldilocks gets disfellowshipped- and the parents look across the hall at her with disdain.....yeah that video.. i was interested to see what kind of answers would be given during the discussion after the video and some of the reactions.

everyone sat there gormlessly staring at the video.

Special Talks now via video

tired of listening to your local elders giving the "special" talk ever year after the memorial?

well don't worry, as of next year we will be spicing things up for your enjoyment.. not only will we be having the talk before the memorial (i know, wild huh), but we will be treating you to the talk via video starring our famous speakers from bethel so you can see how a talk should be given (after all bethel does boast the best speakers in any country, right?!).

here's a copy of the text from our latest letter as i'm sure that with so much excitement you won't believe it at first!.

Well, I can tell you, that the average Australian finds it disturbing to hear an American speaker.

Nothing against our friends in the USA, but in Australia, there is a more reserved culture (as there is for many other English speaking places such as UK, New Zealand etc)

To have a "tall poppy" from the USA give a talk, (instead of a local brother) will only alienate the locals more and more....

The GB have to see that the novelty of having their big old faces up on a screen has worn off amongst witnesses.

2018 Annual Meeting

does anybody have any word on the 2018 annual meeting?

i assume something new will be rolled out, since they are having all the congregations do special weekend streaming.. my guess is that there will be some major "new light" concerning the memorial, partaking, anointed, etc.

i would guess that they will say all baptized believers should partake.

My Father has brandished me with the "APOSTATE" word for talking about the BIBLE!

so after three years of fading, my elder father has never really asked why we have chosen to stop attending.. today, after a mixed discussion, he starts talking about the "solution to all the world problems" and says "i don't know what you now believe, but i believe gods kingdom will fix everything" i let the comment go, and didn't respond.. then he goes on about the video "remember the wife of lot" because he just came from the convention last weekend.

"don't get caught up in this system...blah blah".

i couldn't help myself, and said one thing "dad, that video failed to show the next chapter of that account.

Yes, the things we respectfully point out have a logical and factual basis, so any sane person can see it. However, good witness drones choose to remain blind.

Reminds me of a scripture "their minds are blinded..."

The Golden rule (Matt 7:12) - Do JW's apply it?

there is no doubt (in my mind at least from my own personal experience) that in day to day matters most witnesses are genuinely loving and kind (or "nice") people (though their indoctrination and fundamentalist mentality often inhibits their natural kindness and tolerance and often gets in the way of fulling showing it).

however i would like to put the case that when it comes to their ministry and theological/scientific discussion of any type, they fail to apply even the most basic of bible principles that they claim to espouse - the golden rule!

here is what occurred to me.... some things jw's would like men to do to them:.

Disfellowshipped in Absentia

i have heard of this happening before, but how often?

its pretty rare it seems.

i have often wondered if the elders would go this route with me since they knew i was actively sinning, but as far as i know, no jc was ever formed.

We have never attended any "invitations" to meetings with elders, yet our name and character has been actively maligned in our whole district.

Witnesses shun us in the extreme.

It makes me wonder whether the local elders did announce something about us?

Maybe they did say so in order to make others shun us?
