Yes!!
Great thread.
When they have said "We miss you, I always reply "Thankyou! Lets grab a coffee now if you like?"
They never take me up on that!
how many times have you heard that trope?.
i found it more irritating than a dose of farmers on the bum.
i've even said it when i was a brainwashed jobo drone.

correct me if i'm wrong--.
when a new-build or existing property is acquired for use as a kingdom hall----is it still the custom to have a sort of "dedication to jehovah" type of service ?.
if it is--what happens when the property is sold ?
haha! Great thread Stan.
I know of a hall that was sold to a Budhist group. In the foyer where the WT logo once was, is now a giant Budha statue...
instructions for merging congregations s-67-e 9/17.
Oh how surprising!
"If the congregation has money in its operating account, these funds WILL NOT be returned to the congregation"
my spies tell me that the jobos recently had a broadcast where 2 scriptures have been changed.. luke 22.26you, though, are not to be that way.
but let the one who is the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the one taking the lead as the one ministering.. 1 tim 3:1this statement is trustworthy: if a man is reaching out to be an overseer,+ he is desirous of a fine work.
i don't have the tech to locate the broadcast right now.
Nice new avatar Punky!!
i'm inactive here to the local jw's as i have faded.
i've been slandered and all that, shunned by some but not all, but the elders basically leave me alone.
i still run into to people all over though.
Awesome reply!
my jw wife, like all of us, was saddened by the senseless killings in nevada.
she said, "the shootings just shows how much we need god's kingdom.
" i replied, "yes if it was armageddon, jehovah wouldn't have left any survivors.
So if witness theology is correct, it was GOOD that those ones were killed...because they now are assured of being resurrected into the new world paradise right?! Everyone that dies before Armageddon gets a free pass into the paradise.
The mental gymnastics required to wrap one's head around the theology is mind numbing!

The Watchtower Society (WTS) has often criticized other churches for passing collection plates during meetings. Churches that organize bingo, party games and other fund-raising efforts have also been repeatedly condemned. At the same time the WTS has emphasized that Jehovah’s Witnesses do not solicit donations! Comments like the following were common in WTS publications like The Watchtower and Awake! before 1990.
Watchtower 12/1/1987 pages 30-31 ‘Where do such funds come from?’ is an often-asked question. Unlike the churches of Christendom, Jehovah’s Witnesses do not take up collections or send out envelopes to solicit donations. Rather, contribution boxes-like the treasury chests of Biblical times-are set up at their Kingdom Halls.
Awake 9/8/1975 page 26 …is it not a comfort for them to know that in the local congregation of Jehovah’s witnesses they will never be tithed to pay out a percentage of their income? Nor will unscriptural money-raising schemes be imposed on them. It is at the Kingdom Hall that an unobtrusive contribution box is located for use by those who wish voluntarily to give money to support the work of the congregation. Donations mailed to the headquarters of the Watch Tower Society are also unsolicited and entirely voluntary.
Watchtower 9/15/1974 page 559 The Kingdom Halls of this happy group are open to you and you may attend free of charge, without having to suffer embarrassment by a request for contributions or the passing of a collection plate.
Watchtower 8/15/1971 page 506 The emphasis in all giving among the Witnesses is that it must be voluntary and spontaneous, from the heart. In fact, ever since the earliest days of the modern witnesses of Jehovah it has been their policy that never should there be any passing of collection plates or similar solicitations for money.
Watchtower 5/1/1962 page 278 How May I Contribute? Jehovah’s witnesses have never gone begging for finances.

OH MY GOD!
One of THE MOST DISTASTFUL thing I have ever seen them produce!
HOW is this not "begging or soliciting for funds??"
What was it that the first WT ever said? "We will Never beg nor solicit for funds. When the creator of the universe stops bringing in the funds, we will know it is time to stop producing this magazine" (words to that effect. Perhaps someone can find the specific quote?)
it struck me just how odd and weird it is that jws are told that if they do not preach, they are "bloodguilty" for failing to warn people of the upcoming destruction at armageddon.. hang on a minute now, hang on!.
why should a mere human be made to feel "bloodguilty" and "responsible" for "failing to warn someone" of gods wrath??.
these average people are not the ones who are about to unleash a genocidal massacre on 99% of humanity (including babies born to non-witnesses).

The genocidal massacre is being done by the "Almighty" himself! Why does he have to be so keen to kill so many people, and why isn't it HIS responsibility to warn people?? Why does he expect humans to warn other humans of HIS impending temper tantrum??
Thoughts??
although i consider myself completely "cured" from watchtower brainwashing, guilt tripping and propaganda, i realised today that there's not a day that goes by without me thinking of the cult we left.
i think of my former family and what i'd like to say to them, what i'd try to explain and how i'd say it without them switching the "ignore" button and running away.. today on my instagram account my little step-brother "liked" a picture i posted.
i didn't even know he was still on my friends list.
Ah yes! PE, I hear you loud and clear!
I have had this occur on a weekly basis with all the "friends" and family I have had on instagram. People "like" a picture, or I "like theirs" and they see me...then I am blocked from them.
It actually makes me more convinced each time that we escaped a high control cult.
If they have to go to such extremes at the prompting of their leaders weird dictates, it proves that they are part of a disturbing and destructive mind-set...and culture of paranoia and fear. After all, it is just social media...but they feel impelled to "take a stand" and block you? Amazing really.
