Great comments !
Ray, you are spot on, and Venus, that is exactly right! Keeping a photo of someone is a sign of respect..
how often did we as witnesses say something like this : "unlike members of false religion, who venerate or worship through statues or idols, we give our focus to jehovah!".
members of religious groups focus their religious adoration via an image or statue.
they do this in order to provide some sort of focus to their need to worship.. witnesses give extreme focus on the name "jehovah" .

i thought this during my wake up.
if you think about it, jehovahs promise for the faithful is actually a bum deal.
some would even say a con.
Great thoughts PE!
we know that the hebrew scriptures, or old testament states that the practice of circumcision (of males) was supposed to be yet another sign that set the jews apart from the "people of the nations".
but apart from so many odd things, how dumb is this?.
i mean, how did someone know if a male was circumcised or not??

Did people meet each other while walking in the desert , drops their pants, or lift their robes just to show each other their penis? "Now you can see from which nation I have come"
So stupid....

How often did we as witnesses say something like this : "unlike members of False religion, who venerate or worship through statues or idols, we give our focus to Jehovah!"
But really, is it any different?
Members of religious groups focus their religious adoration via an image or statue. They do this in order to provide some sort of focus to their need to worship.
Witnesses give extreme focus on the name "Jehovah" . They make this the focus of worship, attention and adoration.
But the name Jehovah is simply an amalgam of letters formed by a Middle Ages monk. The exact pronunciation of YHWH is not known. The name is not even accurate.
And yet witnesses say that isn't important - the main thing is it gives focus on god.
So, what is the difference?
None that I can see
how many times have you heard that trope?.
i found it more irritating than a dose of farmers on the bum.
i've even said it when i was a brainwashed jobo drone.
Yes!!
Great thread.
When they have said "We miss you, I always reply "Thankyou! Lets grab a coffee now if you like?"
They never take me up on that!
correct me if i'm wrong--.
when a new-build or existing property is acquired for use as a kingdom hall----is it still the custom to have a sort of "dedication to jehovah" type of service ?.
if it is--what happens when the property is sold ?
haha! Great thread Stan.
I know of a hall that was sold to a Budhist group. In the foyer where the WT logo once was, is now a giant Budha statue...
instructions for merging congregations s-67-e 9/17.
Oh how surprising!
"If the congregation has money in its operating account, these funds WILL NOT be returned to the congregation"
my spies tell me that the jobos recently had a broadcast where 2 scriptures have been changed.. luke 22.26you, though, are not to be that way.
but let the one who is the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the one taking the lead as the one ministering.. 1 tim 3:1this statement is trustworthy: if a man is reaching out to be an overseer,+ he is desirous of a fine work.
i don't have the tech to locate the broadcast right now.
Nice new avatar Punky!!
i'm inactive here to the local jw's as i have faded.
i've been slandered and all that, shunned by some but not all, but the elders basically leave me alone.
i still run into to people all over though.
Awesome reply!
my jw wife, like all of us, was saddened by the senseless killings in nevada.
she said, "the shootings just shows how much we need god's kingdom.
" i replied, "yes if it was armageddon, jehovah wouldn't have left any survivors.
So if witness theology is correct, it was GOOD that those ones were killed...because they now are assured of being resurrected into the new world paradise right?! Everyone that dies before Armageddon gets a free pass into the paradise.
The mental gymnastics required to wrap one's head around the theology is mind numbing!
