i have to say that it was quite a strange feeling.

for many years that i was in, i had to do a lot of pretending with various teachings i personally didn’t believe in.

still, i believed in some foundation and went for that.

Well done for enduring such an experience with strength and dignity!

Its almost like you were able to apply the Convention title and were "courageous" hehe.

I think it was nice that you went for your father's sake. After all, that is what families should do - support one another's big events in life. So I wonder would he now attend some event of accomplishment in YOUR life? perhaps some work awards night, or community awards night?? Would he afford you the same support to something you hold dear?

Yes, once again, the perceived level of "spirituality" is seen of more value in such a report of abuse than anything else! It is like more credibility is given to the report if it comes form a "spiritual" source"!

Because as we all know, the culture within the JW circle of "spiritual ones" is to "leave matters in Jehovah's hands".

This point also rings true with the situation described in the elders book later on when it states that "if an elder has committed an offence that is worthy of DF but the act took place many years back, and he still has "jehovah's blessing", then it DOES NOT need to be dealt with by a Judicial Committee."

YET, if it was just a Normal JW, you can bet they would be called to task for it!!

Apostate - what does the word mean to you?

over a period of time i got to thinking - what does the word 'apostate' mean to me.

having given it some thought, this is my view;.

the org has given the word its own definition and basically use it to demonise people and consider them pariahs.. however, the jw meaning of 'apostate' is a mere word and only has power if recognised as such.

Apostate simply means "one who has left their former belief system"

It doesnt mean a "mentally diseased lunatic who spits fire and sulphur" like the Society would like all to believe...

If you stop following a sporting team, or a political party, you are an apostate of them. Thats all...

As mentioned above, Jesus was an apostate of judaism.

Simply be "the safe landing place" that she needs.

How many child molesters do you personally know of in the J.W's?

were are they now and what position are they in.. lets do a running count.. c.o.b.e was interfering with his daughter,d.f,reinstated died in good standing.. branch oveersear multiple young children d.f,reinstated in good standing.. publisher interfeared with small child in the k.h d.f not sure were he is.. publisher sexually abused 3 relatives no action taken in good standing.. current elder raped his sister years ago little action taken was not an elder at the time.. publisher sexualy abused young girl d.f,reinstater now in good standing.. m.s multiple young girls d.f,died trying to get reinstated.. so thats 7.. karter..

Plus I knew of one case in my childhood congregation.

Healing & Rebuilding Your Life - Feedback Wanted

i have been invited to speak at an international cultic studies association workshop this fall.

i could use your help in focusing on my presentation subject.. these workshops are for former members of any cult or other high-control, authoritarian group, not just jehovah's witnesses.

last year, i spoke at one of their larger conferences in europe.

I'm so happy that someone of your calibre has this opportunity to assist others in such a forum as that event! It sounds fascinating. I know you will do very well at it.

I guess all the points are very valid. If pushed for time, I feel that highlighting to the audience the point about discovering the "authentic self" is very helpful.

Also, of course, is the need to "give oneself permission to look behind the curtain at the cult's / group's teachings"

Unless someone ALLOWS themselves the PERMISSION to analyse, then all else is a waste of time. They need to "Let go of any GUILT" that comes from doing so.

Highlighting to such ones that it is actually OK and indeed beneficial to question things with a sincere motive is vital.

Highlighting too that there is NO absolutes in all of this. There is no "black or white" "right or wrong" in such a process may also help.

As I mentioned, I don't see us all as "victims", but rather as "survivors". However a day like this does give strength to those who need it.

So I think it is a good thing.

The Assembly Hall for our region was a focus this year. It has Regional Conventions held at it every Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

It was rather appropriate that the sign for "Be Courageous" was present!

Ah well, from the Society's point of view, if the person delayed in reporting it, that may indicate that it wasnt actually rape.

This really highlights their stupidity and ignorance...

maybe you are in the initial stages of researching and finding out the earthshattering and life changing information about the religion that you once held dear and called “the truth”.. it can be a very stressful period of time as you realise that your whole foundation has changed and that the people in your life that you call friends or family may not take kindly to the things you have discovered.

Oh LOLS, so sorry to read about your situation.

Please remember that he is not thinking in his right mind at the moment, and may very well be influenced by the cult mindset. That cult persona is choking out the "real" him.

Be strong in your resolve to be the same kind loving mother to your kids that you have no doubt always been. He will see that, and it may help bring out the "real" him again.
