  What made you stay "in" even when you knew it wasn't the "truth"?

  so i've been thinking a lot about why i stayed a jw for so long even though i had always had doubts about the doctrines.

  i was born into the religion, left and came back as an adult for another decade.

  some of the things that come to mind (besides the threat of shunning-and this isn't to minimize that very real threat) was:.

  I guess for me it was the fear of the unknown.

  Hence the username "stuckinarut2" (as in "I am stuck in a rut too")

  intended as a confidence builder in the organization ..see what you think.. theme is from deuteronomy but it is really highlighting that passage in genesis where abraham had a dialogue with god, (gen.18) would god destroy sodom if 50 righteous men would perish?

  I started a new podcast about my life as a JW today

  What was Jesus last name???

  jesus in hebrew means "savior' and christ in greek means "messiah".

  these are identifiers --not names in jesus case.. where did the name christ come from, his parents???

  ?i can see the name jesus (first name) but christ.

  A CO in Western Australia was having a relationship with a sister for some time...

  Two separate instances in Bethel Australia where the "affairs" were going on for some time before the Hold Spirit woke up to it...

  So it seems that if you progress with more "privileges of service", the HS overlooks things....

  we were just musing that jws act in a "flirtatious" manner with people in the community.. they show such "sincere" interest in people when they call.

  they seem like such kind, caring and thoughtful people - really interested in their lives and welfare.. people are often quite impressed with the jws manner, and their well dressed presentation.

  people (especially vulnerable ones who are going through difficult pressures in life), are drawn in and made to feel special by the witnesses as they call back.. return visits take place.

  Yes, I am ashamed to say that we did the same with those we met in the territory. If they didnt "progress" we dumped them....

  Now looking back though, I am happy, as that saved them from getting hitched to the cult....

  People are often quite impressed with the JWs manner, and their well dressed presentation. People (especially vulnerable ones who are going through difficult pressures in life), are drawn in and made to feel special by the witnesses as they call back.

  Return visits take place. "Studies" may be started. The Witnesses may invite them to social gatherings with the congregation "friends". It all seems so amazing! ("someone likes me!" they may say.)

  BUT, if the person doesn't reciprocate by "progressing" in their studies and becoming a Witness in the "appropriate time", they find themselves being treated differently. The keen interest and "friendship" lessens - the relationship cools....and eventually the Witness stops coming over or contacting them.

  It is just like the conduct of a "flirt". When they don't get what they want, they abandon the person and move on.....

  They simple become "somebody that I used to know"
