i have noticed another popular pattern of behaviour amongst witnesses in recent years.. many, and i mean lots of ones with instagram accounts have closed the wife's account, and have started a "couple's" account instead.
also, for families.
the children's accounts have been closed, and the husband starts a "family account".. it is mainly on the husband's device, and seemingly under his control.

Ill admit that I can allow anger to cloud my view at times. Point taken.
And as others have pointed out, there is a case for parents overseeing their minor children's social media accounts.
But for an adult husband to prevent his wife from having her own IG account? For their account to be on his device ? That is just odd, and unhealthy imo.

Agreed. It was and has always been "strongly implied" that a DF person sit at the back.
Sure, it may not be an official directive, but it is indeed what is encouraged.
I saw a DF brother once just sit mid way down the auditorium, and the way he was harassed by elders after just proved it. The the elders made it known in conversations over the next few weeks that he was "acting in a brazen manner"

That sounds like an horrific time. So very sorry for all you went through.
Now that we are all awake, that kind of behaviour screams INAPPROPRIATE and proof of a CULT!
ah yes the convention is approaching.
wife is squirreled away with her wt books, her laptop and the tablet thing ..even at meals.. conversation is a word or two and not often.
spoken to.. doesn't answer.. and on return it will be grumps on for at least a week.. anyone else know this phenomenon?.

during the "do you love me more than these" watchtower study on sunday, i got so angry on many occasions, hearing people make comments like "if you enjoy your job, you're an enemy of jehovah" and "the only reason we're here is to preach.
work and relaxation only exist to help us to preach".. the paragraph talking about the "do more!
" attitude in the world getting people down really got me down just reading it, as it applies so much to the borg.. i also found the ecclesiastes scripture quoted to be ironic, as the rest of the article tells is that nothing is better or more of a priority than to preach;.

i was just thinking about the odd things that arise when out shopping.. i saw a bag the other day, and thought "that would be a perfect 'service' bag as it is just the right size for....oh hang on...".
and when buying nice shoes, the thought is there somewhere..."these will be comfortable when walking around the streets...".

so over the last few years, the witnesses i know (who were close friends in the past) who follow me on instagram social media have been steadily dropping off and blocking me..... but there are a small number who are still friends.. i have noticed one sad situation for one friend who is clearly battling cognitive dissonance.
if she posts a picture and i leave a nice comment on it, my comment quickly disappears.
(she must delete it i guess) but then soon after she sends a nice private message asking how we are, or commenting on the post or activity.

I guess, if someone is ashamed for it to be publicly known that they communicate with us, then they are NOT really a friend!
jehovah's witnesses have had to revise their chronology and various doctrinal interpretations due to events and scholarly corrections.
but the one teaching where they have been consistently ahead of the curve is the importance of jehovah's name.. .
i'm going to run through a (necessarily selective) timeline of jw events and scholarly publications that demonstrate the phenomenal success of this teaching in the last days.
Simply having the right tools doesn't make me a qualified tradesman. The work I do is the proof.
So too, simply using the name "Jehovah" (if we assume it is correct), doesn't make the religion known as "Jehovah's Witnesses" correct. Really, "by their fruits you will recognise them"

AND, to add to this, what is it about witnesses who think that it is perfectly acceptable to delve deeply into someone's account and check out who they follow, and who follows them etc?
The level of inappropriateness is mind blowing.
My wife had a witness we have known for years, delve deeply into her facebook account. He found that someone she follows, follows "an apostate site", so he emails ME to tell me about my wife's account and content!
I wanted to reply, "sorry ___, but I don't understand why you would feel it was appropriate to even look through her account like that? I'm her husband, and yet I wouldn't even do so. That shows a lack of respect to her"
