Religion is just like Advertising!
by stuckinarut2 ina thought occurred to me today, that religion is just like a clever marketer or advertiser.
first , a "problem" is created, then the advertiser offers the "solution"!.
religion does the same!

oh witnesses
by zeb inwe attended an orchestral concert last night.
before the show there was have a drink mingle thing and my dear wife met some sisters who she sees so many times a week and got into a round x round conversation on......fs arrangements.. no commentary on the music to come, the beautiful venue or the opportunity to take in such a concert.

Oh dear Zeb...I feel your pain.
Once we are out, it stands out so clearly just how dysfunctional witnesses are! They feel guilty for not speaking about "spiritual matters" (aka society stuff)
They also feel the need to "one-up" each other in just how "spiritual" they can be when they talk...
At a concert no less? So sorry mate!

Hugh Hefner died a few weeks back but no post on it. Interesting.
by Still Totally ADD ini bring this up because like me i sure many of the men who was kids in the wt cult got their first taste of what a nude women looked like.
it was the adolescent male sex education for most of us.
one friend i had who's dad was a elder told me they always had playboys in his house because his dad subscribed to them.

Yes. As an adult now, I see that being raised from birth in this cult messed us up so much in this regard....

California Tubbs Fire photos you might not find find anywhere else...
by La Capra into quote someone near and dear: they should have built the whole kingdom hall out of the same thing they built the signs.... i had to wait nearly two weeks to get into the neighborhood to get these pictures for your voyeuristic interests...this is peanuts compared to the over 5,000 homes that were destroyed (this number includes individual units in large apartment complexes that were completely razed).
those pictures and videos are available in the media.
wine country is a community devastated..

My heart goes out to all in that fire ravaged community.
But, as for the society - well they will end up making far more out of this through insurance....AND they will expect the local congregation to donate time and money to rebuild. Double dipping....

A Little Direction Please
by Brian J ini'm an active elder, cobe, just got home from the meeting where i handled the treasures part and concluded by announcing a friend of mine has been d/f,.....blah blah blah...and over the last year have woken up.
i simply cannot spill my guts to my wife and children as it would be family suicide.
i have zero desire to bash, spread my feelings, or become an "apostate".

Everyone has already posted brilliant suggestions.
I echo all here when I say - take things slowly. Simply share things that have "disturbed" you, without sounding bitter or negative.
Find a quote from some scientist that has been taken out of context, and show her the original full quote.
Share an observation about "things that don't seem quite right..."
Slowly step back from witness activity. Replace the time by doing fun things as a family. Go out for a nice day on a Sunday...show that life can be fun and refreshing by not being stuck on the witness treadmill..(but don't actually say that.)
This is a long game! Don't try and rush it, or force topics, or make her see things...or that will just have the opposite effect and cause her to dig her heels in.
Then, after some time, and by being a kind, patient and loving husband, she will see things for herself...

First , a "problem" is created, then the Advertiser offers the "solution"!
Religion does the same! First the problem is raised : "Life is meaningless now and for all eternity without God / Religion". Or your life will end if you don't have "God in your life".
So, here you are: "We can present the only "solution"..."

Ah yes...just as Proverbs 30;15 says: The leech has two daughters; they cry, “Give! Give!” Three things are never satisfied; four never say, “Enough!” —
Sounds just like the "society"...Never satisfied....

Faced with the reality of mortality
by stuckinarut2 inhow have you all coped with facing the reality of our mortality?.
most of us were raised to firmly believe we would never get old or die... so here we are now having to face the reality that are getting older... we are going to die.. sometimes it really pisses me off that we were never helped to comprehend this most basic of facts.
we were given a utopian dream as a "fact", and hence never taught how to face our inevitable futures.... thoughts?.

Updated Recommended Reading List
by doubtfull1799 innot long after i joined here i posted a reading list of books that helped me wake up, but since then i've read so many more that i've found invaluable in furthering and refining my new worldview, plus giving me a more in-depth well read perspective on theological and scientific issues.
so i thought i'd post an updated comprehensive list for other voracious readers like me who are always looking for good books to read.
how jesus became god - bart d. ehrman.

Oh my "god"! HOW did you read all those?? (Don't you have a job or life? hahaha just stirring!)
Thank you so much for the recommendations! I look forward to enhancing my knowledge further!
I was only thinking earlier today just how ignorant we were as witnesses. We THOUGHT we knew it all. We had answers to everything. We KNEW everything....
Yet, a genuinely humble person knows that we don't know everything...and there is much to learn. So these books will help expand our knowledge.
