Great observation Wake! Yes, by simply substituting The Society for Jehovah, the flock will comply with everything!

"Colour inside the lines!"
by stuckinarut2 injust some random musings here.... picking up on the thoughts expressed in other posts (such as @wake me's post excellent earlier this week), about how "infantilized" jws are, it made me think of this post topic.. just like little children, jws need to be given constant praise and reassurance that they are doing well and doing the right thing.
also, they feel so bad if they stray or deviate from the ideal prescribed course, behaviors or activity that is approved by the society.. if they are told that they have "coloured outside the lines" so to speak, they feel dejected - or worse - defensive, depending on who points it out to them.
(eg a witness vs a non witness).

The West Australian Govt .has now joined the re-dress scheme Child Sexual Abuse In In Institutions.
by smiddy3 innow all australian states and territories have joined the national redress scheme to support and compensate children sexually abused by churches and institutions .. as well as many churches and others .. notably absent from joining the scheme are jehovah`s witnesses and some others..

Yes, as far as I know, LITERALLY every group brought before the Aust Royal Commission has agreed to the redress scheme, EXCEPT the arrogant JWs!
What the GB are waiting for is an apology from all those pesky kids who dared to make a fuss about all of this! How dare they....

Just some random musings here...
Picking up on the thoughts expressed in other posts (such as @Wake Me's post excellent earlier this week), about how "infantilized" JWs are, it made me think of this post topic.
Just like little children, JWs need to be given constant praise and reassurance that they are doing well and doing the right thing. Also, they feel so bad if they stray or deviate from the ideal prescribed course, behaviors or activity that is approved by the Society.
If they are told that they have "Coloured outside the lines" so to speak, they feel dejected - or worse - defensive, depending on who points it out to them. (eg a witness vs a non witness)
It really highlights the lack of personal self esteem and self worth that the religion imposes on the average member. Yes, they are infantilized.
A sense of dependency is created and enforced... The Society has manipulatively made itself into the superior mentor and authority figure for all JWs.
"So kids - Do NOT colour outside the lines!", or you may get into trouble!

The Excuses JWs use for the child abuse mishandling issue...
by stuckinarut2 ini have noticed a pattern of regurgitated excuses and justifications used by the average jw if the topic of child abuse gets raised:.
"oh but jehovah's organization is setting the lead in how to handle this issue".
"why are you getting so hung up on this one issue?

I have noticed a pattern of regurgitated excuses and justifications used by the average JW if the topic of child abuse gets raised:
"Oh but Jehovah's organization is setting the lead in how to handle this issue"
"Why are you getting so hung up on this one issue? Were you abused?"
"It is all apostate driven lies"
"you just seem to be using this topic as an excuse to be inactive"
"Just because one issue may have existed, doesnt mean this is not The Truth"
Have you heard any other mind numbing retorts?

The urban legends we heard as JWs!
by stuckinarut2 inhow often have we heard some sort of sensationalist urban legend as jws?.
here is an example i was told as a kid:.
the experience of a sister who knocked on a door and was greeted by a big fierce looking man- intimidating and mean.

Book of Revelation
by Whynot inone of the things that really bothered me is how most of the book of revelation isn't understood by most jws.
most of the trumpets were already sounded many decades ago, is that still right?
it seems like most jws just look the other way.

Yes, it is simply arrogant and mind numbing that JWs think that the book of Revelation (written by a man in an obviously drug induced stupor), has its fulfillment in a small group of fringe religionists in 20th century USA!
How they try and justify a prophetic fulfillment to some small convention in the 1920's for instance is simply laughable!

What is the most troubling or disturbing biblical passage you ever had to rationalise when a Jw?
by stuckinarut2 innow that we have stepped away from the jw faith, how do you feel about the bible itself?.
what about those awkward sections of scripture?
how did you rationalise or justify those sections?.

Brilliant posts!
It boggles the mind that people think that the bible is a book of love and a reflection of its author - God.
Well if so, what it tells us about the author is disturbing....
If we as Humans acted in those ways today, we would be severly punished. But it was OK, because God did it.

Reminds me of this great speech by Seth Andrews.
Seems all fundamental christian groups fell victim to this stuff!

YES!
Wow...so many of those "experiences" you have all listed sound so familiar.
It really shows the stupidity of JWs who perpetuate such myths.
