So, you say it doesn't look natural, but it looks like my avatar....
Well....that's actually my hair color. That's why I picked that avatar.....and it's my natural color, so....
I can't really say that your hair looks bad, then!!

Your hair IS black.
Did you dye it orange?
I'm guessing that's what has happened to Arrowstar.....
hey all..... .
it's been awhile since i've posted, but i have a few questions for anyone that lives in, or knows germany very well.
i am going to be flying into frankfurt (as a layover from somewhere else), and i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what to see, stay, etc.
Hey all.....
It's been awhile since I've posted, but I have a few questions for anyone that lives in, or knows Germany very well.
I am going to be flying into Frankfurt (as a layover from somewhere else), and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what to see, stay, etc. I'll probably stay in Germany for about 3 days.
I kind-of want to travel into Bavaria, because I want to go to Fussen and see the castle there, but I'm also running on low funds, and want to do it as inexpensively as possible. I'm thinking that Hostels are probably the way to go, but I don' t know the area, or what would be the best bet as far as safety, and more for your money, etc....
Also, curious about rail passes. I think I'll get the 4 day pass that has unlimited train use, but then I read that only guarantees you to board the train, but you have to reserve and pay extra for seats...which seems kind-of pointless, but I don't know how it all works.
Any advice would be much appreciated!!
Thanks!

i couldn't believe this list of cannots that jws have to adhere to!
i already knew about the holidays, blood tranfusions, the pledge, etc.
there's maybe one or two that i would agree are for your own good, but the rest are ridiculous!!
Well, my dad is an elder, but we ate Turkey on Thanksgiving a LOT. Of course, it wasn't CELEBRATING, just a good time to buy inexpensive turkey.
As for Salvation Army and Church run thrift stores....my mom is a thrift store JUNKIE! (JW woman....need i say more?) But, I KNOW that we went to church run thrift stores many many times.
And wearing a covering over your head when you pray around men, if you're a woman....I never remember seeing any instance of that......I mean, women never EVER led prayer in the hall, but I remember women saying a pray at many meals we attended, or had in our home, and no head coverings in sight.
As far as the others.....That's about right. I couldn't do any of that stuff.
Thanks, Nan, for posting that. It's crazy to see it all in print. Yikes. Glad I got out!

The Challenger! I was in sixth grade. We were watching it on TV in class....it was a really big deal to our teachers, since there was a teacher on board the shuttle. They'd been preparing us for the big event, and I remember watching it, and being a little in awe of it all, being 11-12 years old...
Then it exploded. There was just dead silence in the room. My teacher ran to the tv and turned it off, which I suppose he thought was a good idea. Protecting our little minds, or something. But, we were all just confused..."was that SUPPOSED to happen??" sort of thing. Then a bunch of teachers ran in our class crying, and then we knew.
Diana- I don't really remember where I was when Diana died...It was sad, but I didn't lose any sleep over it. I imagine you Brits were hit much harder than us.
9/11- I had an interview that day, and had woken up early. However, I didn't want to wake anyone, so I didn't turn on the news like I normally did. I had a cd on in my car, and didn't listen to the radio, so I had no idea what had happened until I got to my interview. The girl at the front desk told me the lady that was supposed to interview me was gone, and hadn't I heard what had happened. I imagine they thought I was crazy showing up for an interview when we were under attack. All the girls in the office were in a state of shock, and had me listen to the radio while I filled out paperwork, which was really surreal. I remember thinking I needed to get home and watch the news. Hearing it on the radio didn't have as much impact as seeing it visually. That day, I watched the news non-stop, but it didn't have the emotional impact of the next few weeks. That day was about disbelief. Then the reports about the people that died started up. I swear I didn't stop crying for the entire month of September....
Now I have a really, really good friend who lives in Manhattan, and he can't even talk about it. I can't imagine what it would've been like to live through it...

Azzie, really like Ansel Adams, as well....I've been playing around w/ Black and White, as well as traditional color. I've also been playing around w/ the colors on pictures, and coming up w/ some abstract stuff that I really like.
I've put together a portfolio, and had plans about going to see about showing pics, but I've been super busy and stressed lately....so, no go yet.
Anyhow, tell me all what you think! I'm including a sample of each style...

this may not be a topic that is discussed often, but here something new to talk about.
how many of you are into art?
i am a designer by trade, but also have a second business as an artist.
Wow!
I'm nowhere NEAR as good as you, but here's my contribution:
I've been drawing forever.....Drew this for a friend of mine who's a huge Springsteen fan...

*chorus* HI OCTAVIA!
Welcome!
i remember when they would discourage kids from taking colors or coloring books to the meetings.
so i thought ok, i will give my kid a pen and my book of bible stories to keep him busy.
then they said that was a bad idea because he might write on the furniture and it wasnt good to teach them to write on the wbt publications.
Not really a Meeting experience, but close.
When I was about 5, I was at a wedding. (JW wedding, of course, so the "kids can't act like kids" motto was in full force.) Now, rational people would not expect a five year old to sit still at a reception, and not "dance" when everybody else is on the dance floor. It wasn't like it was the first dance, it had been going on for a while, and there were other kids out on the dance floor. Well, for some reason, this "nice" elderly sister decided to take it on herself to teach me a lesson. My mother wasn't really paying attention to what I was doing, so she didn't notice me getting dragged off the dance floor. This lovely lady decided to perform what I can only describe as a death grip on me, and held me her lap, and wouldn't let me down. All the while telling me things like "GOOD little girls don't make a spectacle of themselves" etc. I was a hyper kid....let me be a kid. Anyhow...after a while of this little prison, I decided I needed to go to the bathroom. Of course, she didn't believe me, and wouldn't let me go. I pleaded with her for a while, and she wouldn't budge, and still had the death grip on me. So, I got mad. .......and peed on her.
Needless to say, she let me go REEALLY quick.
Amazingly enough, I didn't get in trouble. My mom thought it was hysterical. Looking back, if my daughter had done that to someone, I would laugh too. Stupid old biddy deserved it.
