There are some people who simply cannot or will not be rehabilitated. They are not remorseful for their actions, and given the opportunity, they will repeat them. For these people, the death penalty is not a punishment, but a protection for society.

The Death Penalty? What do you think?
by Country Girl ini, as most persons, think a sexual assault of a child is a very horrible thing.
like most parents, i would want to put the person to death that assaulted my child in that way, but is that just?
i'm two ways about it: i feel for the child, and the child's family; but at the same time i am wondering if it is deserving of death?

Adam and Eve were NEVER perfect.
by gaiagirl injw's frequently say that the first human couple were "perfect" and would have lived forever until they gave up perfection by their disobedience.. however, closer reading of the genesis account shows that they were never perfect, instead, they were designed to grow old and die, just like the rest of the animals.
jehovah has adam name all the animals, but finds that none of the animals is suitable as a companion (wonder how this was determined)?.
jehovah clones a companion for adam, and tells them to not eat the fruit of a certain tree, or they will die "in that very day".

Jehovah clones a companion for Adam, and tells them to NOT eat the fruit of a certain tree, or they will die "in that very day". No foggy meaning here, Jehovah is clearly saying that before the end of the day in which the fruit was eaten, they would die.
So they eat, and Jehovah says "Oh no, now they are like US, we must not let them eat from the Tree of Life", so expells them from the location of said tree. And they lived hundreds of years (if you believe the story).
This is the interesting part, namely that the Tree of Life is what would have given eternal life. In other words, eternal life was not "built in" to Adam and Eve. Presumeably ANY animal which ate from the Tree of Life would have gained eternal life. The first couple didn't HAVE eternal life inherently built into them at their creation. The story implies that they would have gained eternal life at some later time, when Jehovah eventually would have allowed them to eat from the Tree of Life. "Perfection" was something which came from the fruit of the Tree of Life, not something Jehovah built into the first humans. Without that fruit, they remained they way Jehovah made them, "imperfect", that is, growing old and eventually dieing, just like every other animal on the planet. -

EVE not to blame for sin entering the world. Just how does this work?
by Terry inin our new testament (christian greek scriptures for all you jw's out there) we are given an equation for sin and salvation.. adam (the first man) and jesus (the second adam).. through the first man, adam sin entered the world and death through sin.
through jesus, the second adam, salvation and the life giving spirit.. what happened to eve?.
is it simply a matter of including eve would mean ruining the simplicity of the equation?.

The "official JW answer" is that Eve was truly deceived by the serpent, however Adam knew better, and still chose to eat the fruit. Interesting to note that everything the serpent told them was true, namely:
1) Adam and Eve did NOT die "in the day" of eating the fruit. Adam and Eve certainly would not have interpreted Jehovahs threat to mean that they would die within 1000 years. Further, they did not "lose" everlasting life, as they had not yet eaten of the tree of life, so they were built to eventually age and die, just like animals. In other words, they were never "perfect".
2) Adam and Eve's eyes WERE opened, just as the serpent promised. In Jehovahs' own words "They have become like US". -

WHEN DO JWS BELIEVE NATIVE AMERICANS CAME TO AMERICA?
by badboy inrecent discoveries indicate native american were present from 14,300 years ago.. what do jws make of that?.
-
gaiagirl
If you really pressed a zealous JW, they would tell you two things, 1) that any Native American tribes came to the Americas sometime after the Flood, and 2) the radiocarbon dates which give ages which disagree with "Bible Chronology" are erroneous.
It is fun to ask a JW to explain how radiocarbon dating actually works, as few, if any, have even a remote idea of concepts such as "half-life", "daughter products" etc. But they can sure tell you WHY radiocarbon dating is not to be trusted : ) -

Are YOU born under "original sin"?
by gaiagirl inthat is, do you view yourself as a member of a "fallen" race of humans, and/or separated from god/perfection/divinity, and/or subject to eventual death because of something an ancestor allegedly did?.
is this even a healthy way to view oneself?.
personally, if there were any truth to the genesis account, then i'd claim descent from the "other" people living outside eden.

Personally, if there were ANY truth to the Genesis account, then I'd claim descent from the "other" people living outside Eden. These are the people Cain was afraid would kill him as he wandered the Earth (Gen 4:14), and the people from whom he eventually found his wife (Gen 4:16-17).
These people were not descended from Adam, and were never under command not to eat from any particular tree, and never disobeyed any such command, so were not subject to "original sin". They are a completely separate lineage.
I actually don't view Genesis as reliable history. Rather, I view myself as part of an interconnected web of existence which is linked to ALL life, everywhere. The elements which make up my body came from the ground, and before that, from a star. As the song used to say, "We are stardust". If and when my body dies, it will do so for the same reason that the body of every other living thing dies.
No sin. No imperfection. Simply part of the cirle of life. -

C.S. Lewis and his "trilemma".

So, if C.S. Lewis premise is not supported by his own arguments, by what arguments, if any, ARE they supported?

Author C.S. Lewis once wrote that one of three situations exist:
1) Jesus was the Son of God
2) Jesus was not the Son of God, but said he was, knowing this was not true, thus making himself a liar
3) Jesus was not the Son of God, but believed he was, thus making himself insane
For C.S. Lewis, the second and third propositions were unacceptable, therefore the first situation MUST be true. However, I see a flaw in his logic here:
I propose that perhaps Jesus never did say he was the Son of God, but OTHER people writing decades after he had died said he made that claim.
Can anyone find additional flaws in C.S. Lewis argument? -

My first album, on vinyl, was by an artist called Melanie, who had once had a popular song called "Brand New Key", and other hits from the Woodstock era including "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain).

Make your actions and words what you believe to be right. If others don't like it, its their problem, not yours.
