by nicolaou init's been out a while and i know it's already been commented on here but i really enjoyed the village.
the creation of fear and the control that it allows must surely strike a chord.. recently i saw christian bale in the machinist.

What Music WERE You Allowed To Listen To?
by gaiagirl inok, so we've talked before about music which was not permitted in our families, leaving us to listen to .... what?
most people in my congregation generally approved of olivia newton-john, but became suspicious of her work after grease, when she bacame a "bad" girl.
one song "landslide" contained the lines "minor desires became major needs, my needs won't be denied", which was taken as proof that she had gone over to the "dark side".

I confess that, although I listen to a lot of other artists as well, I still do enjoy ONJ.

Bruno also played a high school student named Danny J DeVito (no kidding) in the film "Almost Summer" from around 1978, which also starred Didi Conn. I'd like to find this on DVD.

Wanting a new computer, and a new OS
by Nosferatu ini'm still running win95, and it has been good to me for the past 8 years or so.
unfortunately, it seems that win95 is officially becoming obsolete, especially with browsing the internet.
some websites require ie6 or newer, and win95 can't run it.. so, i'm thinking about getting a new computer, or even a used one that isn't too far behind the times.

I suggest looking into Zeta/BeOS. BeOS was a commercial operating system available for purchase until 2000, when they were acquired by Palm, who stopped further development. You can download a customized version of BeOS 5 and install it from bebits.com. Zeta is the finished BeOS 6 which was in development when Palm purchased the company. Zeta can be ordered from Purplus.com, or from Magnussoft. It is quite a bit more capable than BeOS and runs on a wider assortment of hardware. Either one comes with a lot of software, and a lot more is available for download at no cost. I have both on my computer, and use them for internet, email, photos, etc. In terms of ease of use, either one is far superior to any version of Linux (at least the ones I've tried: SuSE, Caldera, Red Hat, Mepis, and Ubuntu). Zeta/BeOS is also stable and there are no known virus which can harm either one at this time. A complete install takes less than 20 minutes.

"A Short History Of Tractors In Ukranian" by Marina Lewycka, very funny story of an elderly Ukranian widower who marries a woman almost 50 years younger than himself (who only wants his money), and the efforts of his two daughters to try and help save him.

DID THE ANIMALS WILLINGLY GO INTO THE ARK WITH NOAH?
by minimus inin the spirit of badboy's threads, i too must ask this question.
-
gaiagirl
Of course, there were "apostate" animals which would not submit to the authority of Gods organization on Earth at that time, and refused to cooperate with the "faithful and discreet slave" (Noah). As a result, the line of unicorns, gryphons, dragons, and chimeras came to a dead end at the time of the Flood, which explains why these are no longer with us today : )

V for Vendetta-similarities in the government and WTBTS?
by gaiagirl injust saw the movie v for vendetta, about a totalitarian government in the near-future england.
somehow it reminded me of the wtbts, in that whenever something happened, they would have the media "spin" it to cast events in the best light for the government, and the worst for whoever else might be involved.
anyone opposed to the government was automatically a criminal, terrorist, etc.

Courtney Cox had another early job in the movie "Mr Destiny", from around 1990. She plays a warehouse forklift driver and threatens to "fork" Jim Belushi to death, among other things. Kind of a funny film, with quite a few other well-known names, i.e. Michael Caine, Linda Hamilton, Jon Lovitz, Rene Russo, and Kathy Ireland.

What do you think people look down more on, Witnesses or New Age thinking?
by free2beme inmy sister last night was talking to me and saying, "you need to be careful that your son does not repeat the things you say about the new age thinking, wicca*, etc.
as most people are scared of that stuff and he will get looked down upon by others.
" i thought about this all day, and was thinking about something.

As far as answering the question "Are you a Christian", there are several responses. One might reply "I believe there is a thread of truth in many of the worlds religions", or "God is too big to fit in one religion". If you wanted to engage in a dialog, you might ask the questioner "I believe some of the teachings of Jesus, which ones do YOU feel are most important?" or perhaps something such as "I probably believe different things about Jesus than you do. How do YOU define being a Christian?" Responses such as this are accepted a lot more easily than just saying "No, I don't believe".
