i've posted about this story in the past, but i've decided to do it again.
i posted a thread last year with my full name on it and just the other day, realized, when i google myself, that thread comes up.
i felt like dad had my step-mom and the twin boys had each other.
Andi,
I enjoyed reading your new thread...and I hope you can find your Mom!

the term "brainwashing" is sometimes thrown around this forum and i thought i'd briefly comment on it.
the idea that a group or person can actually make you think, act and feel in a certain way is highly dubious.
i'm not saying it's impossible, but i highly doubt that any ex-jws have ever experienced "brainwashing.
Elsewhere, great analogy
A JW that was told he was "off course" in his worship, will most likely tell the person that his course was the "right course" and IF anybody is off course it would have to be the "non JW".

i am sure that many whom research watchtower related material have seen this item.
for your educational purposes of discovering the truth about the techniques of "thetruth" (the jehovah's witnesses {religion} and the book publishing empire called watchtower bible tract society):

Thanks for sharing that information. I believe I read about it when I read both of Steve Hassan's books, but it is always a good thing to have a refresher course!!!

i ask this question because the average jw does not show true love though they are commanded to do so.
the average jw often confesses that the meetings are quite boring.
the average jw complains about almost everything within the org.
I really "believed it"..........for years....
Until I saw the lack of love shown repeatedly........
And I saw the Dateline Special May 2002.........You see, even though raised as a JW...I believed that we should examine our religion...put it to the test according to WTBS standard.........They failed......

Welcome jt stumbler
I asked the same thing about a year ago!!!
I was raised a JW and lived it for 36 years (before and after baptism).
One thing as a JW I always remembered was this scripture which became a year text: "Trust in Jehovah with all your heart." Prov. 3.5
To this day I still look at that scripture, which was also was a bookmark with the Bible Reading for that year on the back of it.
I trust in Jehovah to know that I want to serve him with "spirit and truth" as well...there can be no hypocrisy...
When I think of those 2 scriptures it helps to reinforce my determination to serve him the best I can and as a parent myself, I know that if my kids loved me in that way, I am more than happy to accept them!!!
I came to realize much life much like Nina...being a good neighbor with "works"...show them I care. Just being a good person. What a switch from worrying about how much time, literature, return visits or Bible Studies I must turn in each month!!!
I think that Candidly nicely summed up things that we already know as students of the Bible, but weren't really highlighted as someone that read the WTBS materials.
There are a lot of great people here, that make the transition easier...
take care,
