raised a jw, stayed in out of fear, painted myself into a corner and currently struggling to get out completely.
i know lots of people would say they don't respect someone who knows they don't want to stay but is staying for other reasons, like family & friends or whatever.

are you defined by what you have done in your past, or is it the present experiences that define you?.
the dj and tracey lawrence (country singer) were trying to emphasize that we are defined by what we do now as opposed to our past.. are we as a group here an exception?

i work with someone who is df'ed, actually my cousin.

we got into a semi-heated discussion and i gave him a lot of my anti-wt viewpoints, trying to get him to think for himself.
Yes!!! If that is what makes them happy, good for them. It is their choice. I would not do anything to take that away from them.

i have been lurking on this board ever since the may 2002 broadcast of that dateline on the subject of child molestation.
that show made me realize that the wt may not be speaking for god.
well naturally i discovered the truth about the "truth" over the past 21 months.

I really enjoyed reading about your "feelings". You see, when I saw that Dateline Special it hit me about like it did you.
I too was raised as a JW...published for 35 years...but after seeing the Dateline Special, that shook my faith as a JW. I had always been proud but after seeing it I said: "how can I go from door to door, when we are no different than any other religion".
We relocated about 6 months later and had a horrible experience from a so called "welcoming visit from 2 elders"...
I have not been at a meeting where I live for almost 8 months. Both me and my husband are "fading"...It is working well, since we are new here. No one has checked on me...they have my husband, but I am "invisible" to the elders., because I am a "woman". I have family that are Jw's in other states. My sons are JW's...so when I visit them I will go to some meetings...but I am careful as to subtley talking to them about things I have learned.
Everybody's situation and how they view the "new things learned" is different. You have to do what feels "right" for you. Nobody is here to tell you how to handle your situation. You have received some excellent suggestions from the posters.
I hope you find some comfort in this board. I know I have...and I have also met some of the posters, which is quite an uplifting experience. They are people just like you, that have had their "rose colored glasses" removed, tired of hypocrisy and lack of love.

i am new to this, and any form of online chat, but reading some of your postings inspired me to write.
i am even unsure how to check responses, but hopefully there will be some and i will learn.. i am completely torn.
i have met the man of my dreams, and was told the other day that we would not work because he was looking to the future and could not imagine putting up a christmas tree and lights in his home.. when we met, i knew he was raised a witness, but he assured me he had not been to meetings in 8 years because he did not "feel it".

Seems like this guy is a bit wishy-washy. He celebrates holidays, sees his Mom and comes back guilty. Tells you no more holidays.
Take a look at his pattern of rational...He is 30 years old and seems rather confused. Having a life long partner requires maturity on both your part. (seems like you are the mature one in this relationship)
This guy is sending you mixed signals....be careful. The one who loves the most assurdedly gets hurt the most!

i just had a delivery from fed-ex , i accepted a package for my neighbor at her request since she wouldn't be at home.
the fed-ex guy looked confused as i opened the door.
i cleared up the confusion by telling him that since my neighbor was working, she wanted me to accept her package.

a few people have asked how jwd came about and what my own story is and while i've posted it in bits and bobs, i've never tried to tell it as a story so here goes .... living in suburbia.
i was born a jw to jw parents who had recently been missionaries / pioneers in ireland and taken literature into countries like spain when it was banned but who were now living in suburbia near to where they had both been brought up.
we lived in a new semi-detached house in a cul-de-sac at the bottom of a hill - fantastic for building go-carts and racing down !
Thanks for sharing a bit of your past. I will be anxiously awaiting the rest of the story!!!
