Am I a Luciferian??
by freemindfade inso my uncle wrote me a long letter out of concern, it was filled with bit of love and concern here and there but also a lot of staunch dogmatic and at times down right disturbing thoughts and assumptions.
if you doubt the bible or jw.org, seems even close family feels you are on a one way track to death by godville.
anyway, he accused me of being a luciferian.

How did your Uncle find out about Luferiaism? Maybe he is doing his own research. -

Talking to support and contacts at WT HQ
by Juan Viejo2 ini have a story to share about my calls to wt ny hq this past week.
i was quite surprised by the level of disinterest and lack of concern from the two contacts that i spoke to.
rather than jumping right in and sharing my experience - and perhaps "poisoning the well," i'd like to read experiences of others on this forum who had the urge or need to call the wt contact number.. btw - mine was not an apostate rant or overly critical of the wt and was presented in a friendly and helpful way.

Are we pro-shunning or against it?
by Simon injust to continue my theme about religious freedom and how we approach criticizing the wts, i've also been thinking about 'shunning'.. i think shunning is the most unifying complaint that most ex-members of religious groups that practice it have in common.
it is the layer that runs under every other complaint - whatever the reason for leaving it seems "... and i was shunned" can be added to it as the final rap on the charge sheet.. of course it seems like a no-brainer to many of us and we hardly ever stop to really think about it - shunning is bad, the watchtower believes in shunning therefore the watchtower is bad.
they need to stop it.

Oubliette: my sister was awesome. She was a fighter. If I told you what that little girl had to go through at home, it would break your heart.
I miss that little girl. My sister lost her some where along the way trying to be a good JW. I wish I could some how help her find her, but the pain might be too much.
She still marches to her own drum, but she has to stay in the bottom of a bottle to stay sane. Just dont threaten her family in any way.
She refused to shun our nephew when he was dfd. She helped him with his daughters and tried to befriend his baby mama. He behaved badly (drug induced behavior ) and mouthed off threats when she was trying to protect his children.
She cut him out of her life kids and all. She could not take the stress and betrayal.

Simon: I agree. Great post. I noticed the same thing.
This site has opened my mind to new ideas and concepts. I am still on a journey of discovery. Discovering shades of gray ( πnot the book, the color) is one of them.

Funny story about dumb JW rules
by cookiemaster insome years ago (the year when i got baptized), i was at a district convention (or whatever they call them these days) with my best friend.
he had a part in one of those acting parts at the convention (i have no idea the term jw's use for them in english).
anyway, we were both seeing through the bullshit of the borg but weren't aware at the time of this forum or other "apostate" groups, nor of the full extent of the perversity of this religion.

Simon, I appreciate this discussion.
I think it is very important for all of us ( active, nonactive, ex, JWS) to get away from black and white thinking.
I hope your OP will help people think past their knee jerk reaction to everything JW. The issue isn't all or nothing most times.
I like how this discussion evolved into looking into the distinctions involved.
It is healthy to stop and reflect.
When I was in 3rd grade I moved into a very small town and went to a tiny school where all the kids knew each other from birth.
The popular girl A took a dislike to me.
That year she conducted a class wide campaign against me. It started simply.
Every time someone was partnered with me she or her posse would come up to them and say "poor you, I feel sorry for you." If someone actually volunteered to work with me, they would be met with distain and told they had Missfit germs.
By the end of the school year everyone knew that to talk to me or interact with me voluntarily would result in sharing my fate.
Yes, Miss Popular disfellowshiped me from 3rd grade thru 8th grade until I moved.
Those girls didn't think they had a choice either. It was shunned or be shunned.
It's peer pressure, plain and simple. It just depends on who has the power.
On the other hand. Miss Popular's sister tried to do the same to my little sister L.
Little L orchestrated a coup and got some backers from mistreated friends and convinced them to give MissPopularJr. a taste of her own medicine. After a day of shunning, MissPopularJr never messed with sis again and was a kind and gentler dictator. All was well in the second grade.
Little L refused to give the power to Miss.Popular Jr. and fought back.

Local needs talk
by hoser inone of the elders was missing his service bag and suspected that one of the publishers stole it.
he was determined to root out who did it so he decided to give a local needs part on the ten commandments focusing on you must not steal.. he enlisted the help of a trusted ministerial servant and got him to stand at the back of the kingdom hall during the part.
he told the ms that he would read off the ten commandments and when he got to the one "you must not steal" he would pause longer than usual and see if anyone acted nervous or suspicious.

Hi, new to this forum. Figured I'd let everyone know about my story before I got involved.
by JonathanH inif you just want the juicy details where i leave, i'll make disclaimer where it begins, if you just want to know what happened with the elders and organization after i realized it wasn't true, i'll mark that seperately.
we didn't do jack shit in service, or in the congregation.
maybe this was how jehovah came about?
