The saddest song of all time?
by Bad_Wolf ini would pick this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th2w6oxx0kq.
i don't know how so many are happy or fine if thinking this life is it.

Behind Closed Doors
by dubstepped inbehind closed doors my dad, an elder, was so emotionally abusive that as a child i once got out of bed to get a knife from the kitchen so i could stop the abuse once and for all.
i cried, and didn't go through with it.. behind closed doors, my next door neighbors, the family that "brought us into the truth" was yelling and screaming constantly.
he hit her once while we kids played out back.

Blondie:Great post.
Dubstepped: Very thought provoking OP.
Behind closed doors: i can relate. Family studies with a belt at the table to "refocus and redirect" . Sitting in fear at the meetings because 1 slip up would result in hours of "discipline " at home. Innocent or well meaning remarks from the "friends" that even hinted at us not being exemplary would result in hours of emotional and physical abuse. It took alot of work to be a perfect Elder's family.
Behind closed door the Elder molested his preteen foster daughters and schooled them in the fine art of lying for him then beat them later for lying to him.

Your Jehovah’s Witness Is Showing
by David_Jay insince i just signed up and posted a few times without doing this yet, here is my story..
i think that i became a jehovahs witness because of my immaturity.
i had some quirky personality traits, and i joined finding that i fit in because, as i said to myself: these people get me.

I found this older OP and it really got me to thinking. I thought others that missed it might enjoy it and add to the discussion.
Thank you David.

I Just Heard a Birthday Song...
by Saename inso i'm sitting in public area, reading the end of faith (it's pretty clear sam harris is making a case against faith and not some generalized version of islam, so i don't get all those misplaced objections...), and i just heard a group of people sing a birthday song.. i was surprised.
but not because someone was singing a birthday song.
i was surprised because of my reaction.. i wish i could say my reaction was normal, but it wasn't.

My reaction to crosses. I still cant get myself to have anything cross like around. I'm not sure if i would wear one if it were gifted to me.
Standing for the National Anthem still seems wrong.

Lost and Sad, Then He Found Me...
by Sorry inwell, i got myself in a dilemma.
i'm currently 18, being baptised for a year.
i had my doubts, but due to a variety of reasons (getting subtle flack for not baptised, not having a support system even if i wanted to leave).

I worked at KFC as an assistant manager. When a cook didnt show up i had to step in and cook. We had to prep the raw chicken before marinating it. That consisted of breaking the thigh bones and pulling off the tail. Raw chicken juice spashing everywhere .
Elbows deep in flour breading the chicken, OIL splashing, pulling up the chicken basket from the deep fryer was hard because i was short. The basket would swing and catch me on the inside of my arms when i would try to attach it to the hook so it could drain.
And the clean up-

What is the most bizarre counsel you received as a JW, from a JW?
by Funchback inthere were many addressed to me.
for example, i once had a sister tell me i was gambling because i liked playing skill crane (the machine where you have to try to pick up prizes like stuffed animals) at the arcade.
i then fired back a her: "you saw the r-rated movie 'backdraft.

I really enjoyed this thread. Since we have some newbies , i hope we get more responses.
Remember the smurfs- not allowed because they were demonistic.
My JW friend told me not to get anything with imitation crab because it was made with blood products.
