Jeremy Vine Show (Radio 2) discussing JWs

for those in the uk, note they are discussing jws on r2 (shortly after 1pm) today.

they were asking to hear from those brought up as jws but i guess too late now.you should be able to listen on catch-up afterwards at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio (look for the jeremy vine show), but not sure if you can get it if you're overseas..

aaaaaaaaagh----already

so--ive bought a house--got the keys yesterday--took a car full of stuff over to it today--i'm upstairs--heard my wife talking to someone downstairs at the doorstep.............. yep--2 dubs--handing our invites to an assembly next month.

but its in a town called bournemouth ( uk )--which means an hours car journey--plus a very expensive ferry crossing.

( i live on an offshore island ).

Late last year a JW.org flyer was stuffed into my letter box inviting me to their annual convention in Dunedin (which usually run in New Zealand months after those in the Northern Hemisphere). I live in the Greater Wellington District.
Dunedin is in the South Island of New Zealand, Wellington the North Island, a distance of about 800 kilometres (approx. 500 miles).

Well seems like WT have listened to you

How Many Disfellowshipped Are There In The US?

i've read in the watchtower, as well as observed personally, that 1% of the congregation gets disfellowshipped every year.

i'm not good at the math but i figure that it's 40% since 1975 (yes i know, they're growing).

i know that quite a few return but still, there must be a large percentage of disfellowshipped jws who will never return.

OK, I think it's from your own calculations, rather than was WT has printed/admitted - the 'Leavers' number is obtained by looking at the annual increase (or decrease) in publisher numbers compared to the number baptized over the same time

For example: Over a Service Year, if the number of publishers reporting increased by 100, and 110 were baptized, that means you are claiming there were 10 leavers

Starting in the service year 1960-1961 the peak publishers were 965,169 and there were what the Society called 'Leavers' which totaled 14,233.
My guess is that these were people who were DFed or faded etc.
In 1975-76 the increase was 69,134 the Leavers totaled 137, 249..

Where are those figures from? Are they printed in the publications? (Yearbook?)

It's a big thing on FB the group is called Watchtower Victims Memorial Day I think.

Ah right interesting, cool - I feel sure that if Simon felt it was important enough or warranted attention he'd have used the right hand side column of this forum to highlight it with some text and images as per he recently did with regard to the sad events in Nice, but he evidently choose not to.

Just a little anecdote illustrating how out of touch the typical JW is

this weeks book study lesson was on martha, the sister of lazarus.

the chapter in the "imitate their faith" book praised her for being "industrious".. the conductor at our congregation meeting was just positively gushing about how "industrious" modern-day jw women are.. he was so exciting, he could barely get the words out.
