ANGOLA - JW Regional Convention target of attack.
by EdenOne inaccording to news sources in luanda, angola (read it here, although it's in portuguese language), a regional convention of the jw's taking place this weekend at the outskirts of capital luanda was targeted yesterday, friday, by what may be described as a 'terrorist attack'.. more than 400 attendees (mostly female) passed out in rapid succession in the vicinity of a toilet at the convention place.
reportedly, toxic gas devices were planted there by 3 young members of unita, the main political party that opposed mpla, the dominant regime party in angola since its independence in 1975.
43 people were rushed to the hospital and a few remain there, under medical surveillance.

Just A Thought Regarding The Bunker Video
by pale.emperor inas ridiculous as the bunker video was, a few things popped into my consciousness as i was riding the train today.
firstly, why did they go to all the expense and effort to not only create a bunker, but to furnish it like a living room complete with coffee table, armchair, shelves etc?
i mean, a bunker should be a bunker... boxes of tinned food, tools, medical supplies, emergency gear etc.

WTBTS of Britain selling another Kingdom Hall

this is the kingdom hall of the richmond park congregation of jehovah's witnesses.
i checked the website of the estate agent (bonsors) and there is no mention of the property or the price.

SO THIS would be your BUNKER KINGDOM HALL!!!!!!
No, really, I'm being SERIOUS! hahaha!!
That KH is a bit of a sore sight for eyes! It also doesn't fit in with the surrounding (bigger) buildings that are three storey / two storey with big roofs.They asked the council for permission in 2009 to pull it all down and rebuild a replacement hall, with an oversized front flat wall, to fit in more with the surrounding area - BUT the council REFUSED them!
Anyway - back to the bunker!
In 2004 they asked the council for permission, in principle, to pull-down and rebuild with three storeys for minister living accommodation (1 x 1 bed flat and 1 x 2 bed flat) with a FULL BASEMENT that would contain the Kingdom Hall!!!! And the Council agreed and PERMITTED them! (they later tried to get 'full' permission but they withdrew the application - below is a mix of the stuff they submitted to show the whole development: (you can see the outline of the basement in the rear garden)

Cart Witnessing in Giethoorn, Netherlands (My recent experience)
by Alfred inso i visited the netherlands last week and decided to stop by giethoorn.
this is a town whereby many (if not most) of the homes are accessed by small boats via narrow water canals.
during the summer months, the residents of this isolated picturesque town welcome visitors with their seasonal tourist attractions such as canal cruises on eco-friendly boats, restaurants and a small museum which highlights the history of the town.

1) The flow of pedestrians practically causes the JWs to be out of the tourists’ direct view
The advantage here is that individual members of the public can discreetly take a leaflet or publication without being noticed by other tourists, including perhaps from their own tour group - some times a small group goes by and disappears, and then five minutes later one of the group sneaks back, unseen by friends (perhaps saying they're gonna go back and take a photo) - then they pick up a leaflet and slip it into their pocket.....
2) The literature cart had mostly Asian (Manadarin, I think) literature on it.
It is relatively easy to contact Dutch and English speakers - but in China the WT is under ban, so not so easy to contact Manadarin speakers - hence this type of 'cart-search' ministry - focusing on Chinese tourists
But it was interesting that apparently you saw no Asian tourists while you where there - that does seem unusual.....

My above -corrected- link (to Deolhon News) appears to be from a Brazilian news outlet? (ie, also Portuguese-speaking as per Angola)
Really though A LOT of 'internal' stuff from loads of countries does not get reported outside those countries.
Also, as no one appears to have actually died, it becomes less 'news-worthy' - but that's the nature of news unfortunately.
The known facts (Convention date/location) match up, the pictures also look reasonable.
The story WAS featured online by O Pais, which I believe is also a print newsaper in Angola? (so not just a one-person-blog)

I don't think so... in fact I'd go so far as to say that you might even be able to identfy a 'ex-jw' by the use of the word 'bunker'?
The room shown in the videos appears to be no more than an internal storage room, perhaps located to the rear of the (integral?) car garage of a reasonably large (detached?) house.
In other words, an internal room where you could be, with lights on etc, BUT which you could not be seen from outside the house, even with the house curtains/shutters open etc - ie the house looks empty/unoccupied.
