My local calculations are about 1 in 5.
(Personally I was the only one in a group of 10 to come back. Now it's zero. However, none of us were baptized. Hence, you can see why they are pushing child baptism so hard. Gotta keep a few, one way or another.)

Attention Governing Body: October 2, 2014 is only 940 days away...
by Alfred inin 1823, john aquila brown (a man who is not mentioned in any wt publication) came up with a bizarre mathematical calculation which totalled 2,520 years (in an unauthorized attempt to predict the end of the gentile times).... several religions recycled this bizarre calculation, including the adventists and the bible students... when armageddon didn't come on the variety of early 20th century dates predicted by several "dooms-day" religions of that time (including charles taze russell's bible students who predicted that the big a would start in 1914), they all finally realized that this 2,520-year calculation was nothing more than arbitrary mathematical speculation derived from erratic biblical extrapolation.... except for the bible students who continued to move up the date for armageddon 2 more times (1918, 1925) and then decided to use wwi as the starting point for the "last days".. all the while, one thing that seems to remain intact is the october 2, 1914 date.
oddly, for the watchtower bible & tract publishing cult, this particular date still marks the end of the 2,520-year period (that john aquila brown referred to in his bizarre 1823 book "the even tide")... again, no mention of this in any watchtower publication.
but, for jws, that date still remains the starting point for the period of time often referred to as the "last days" or even "the generation that shall not pass".. because of this, the governing body has been forced to change the definition of "the generation that shall not pass" countless times since the early 1970's.

Public Talk - Probe to Uranus
by berrygerry ini'm being deadly serious - many, many years ago, an english (uk) visiting speaker, giving a talk on science and the bible, made the statement:.
"as we speak, there is a probe that is nearing uranus.".
myself and one other brother were just dying trying to control an explosion of laughter.. i so desperately wanted to yell out: "and they're searching for klingons.".

WHY has the Governing Body become what it has become? History shows the way . . .
by Terry inif a human being has the desire to worship god, what could possibly stand in the way?.
thousands of years ago tribes and nations used imagination to figure this out.. early humans made humble offers to the gods to curry favor and (perhaps) to bribe them.. offerings of food, prayers, and even blood were used to convince the supernatural realm of a sincere desire to negotiate favor and protection.. we all know this already, don't we?.
step one: wooing a deity : offer something to god in return for a benefit.. _______________________________.

Seriously good post, Terry.
You introduce, though, that worship is individual.
As a father, I do not want to be worshiped - I simply want my children to be happy and successful - and hopefully love me.
I did not have children so that someone would worship me.
Enabling the gift of life to another, and caring for, and trying my hardest, that that new life will thrive and prosper, is incomprehensible.
Why would a heavenly Father be different if he instilled those feelings of love and fatherhood in me? (As per my other posts - worship me or die is horsesh**.)

October 2nd, 2014: The World Ends Tomorrow, Taking all Bets!
by Oubliette inon october 2, 1914, charles taze russell, founder of the watchtower, announced that the gentile times have ended!.
tomorrow will be exactly 100 years since his historic announcment.. to commemorate this centennial occasion, i will gladly take bets in any amount of money that the world will not end tomorrow and that on friday, october 3rd, 2014 gmt, we will still all be here, for better or worse.. any die-hard jws interested in taking the other side of this friendly little wager?
still hoping the big "a" is coming tomorrow and your loving god, jehovah, is going to commit mass genocide and execute 99.9% of earth's population because they don't follow the dictates the 7 members of the "faithful and discreet slave," aka, the governing body of jehovah's witnesses?.

Leo Greenlees here:
I don't have much money left, as I only receive a Special (very) Pioneer allowance now. (I miss the old days.)
However, I've made a few young friends here in New Orleans that are becoming a tad boring.
I would be interested in a trade of young friends, as opposed to filthy lucre.
PLEASE!
