Could a petition to make shunning illegal work?
by aboveusonlysky inwe're currently watching leah remini's series about scientology and the main thing she seems to focus on is the shunning policies of the scientology organization which let's face it are very similar to jw procedure.. i was wondering with all that's in the media recently about bullying could a petition be put together to get the goverment to consider making religiously mandated shunning illegal?
has such a thing been tried before?.

The GB wants us to read this bible passage to you!
by StephaneLaliberte ini had a brother visit me yesterday to invite me to the memorial.
as usual, despite the unspoken passive aggressiveness, i was polite,.
anyway, this year, he started his presentation by saying: "the governing body (gb) wants us to read this bible passage to you!

You should have said:
"Really? They asked you to talk to me. Wow. Can I personally thank them back?"

2016 Canada Branch Finances - If Canada is a Bellwether?
by berrygerry incanada branch finances have been posted.. the link is here: https://docs.zoho.com/file/281y636f334e3f1c746b1b450c1855eed07e6.
if canada is a bellwether, then the begging / extorting is paying off, as is the reduction in printing.. assets (cash) has risen for the first time since 2011.. liabilities are steady.. donations seems to be a mixed bag, with donations from individuals way up, and from the congregations down.
net result is a decline in revenue.. the single biggest major change is decline in "supplies," back down to 2013 levels.

Donations to New York were pretty hefty.
All-in-all, a pretty good rebalancing in Canada, with a better bottom line for the first time since 2010 / 2011.

You Can Encourage An Inactive Christian!
by Yesu Kristo Bwana Wangu inhttps://www.jw.org/en/publications/jw-meeting-workbook/april-2017-mwb/meeting-schedule-apr10-16/encourage-inactive-christian/.
this is part of the clam meeting this week.. how contradictory is it?.
first, they instruct people to avoid inactive ones and to shun them and to treat them the same as da'd or df'd ones, .

WT has made a number of references to this alleged quote by J. Paul Getty:
“Money doesn’t necessarily have any connection with happiness. Maybe with unhappiness.”
Nothing in my WT life brought more stress and anxiety than not having enough money.
This quote makes far more sense:
"More money, but not pets, makes people happier," says Herzog, psychology professor at Western Carolina University, referring to the Mercer University research that found increased money boosted life satisfaction, not Bowser.

Jehovah's Witnesses Knocking at my Front Door
by Richlist ini have jw's knocking on my door about 4 times a year.
they walk along the whole street knocking on all the properties trying to hand out leaflets about god.. i always engage them in conversation.
my street has a very large number of oap's who could really do with some extra help.....grass cutting, shopping, cleaning, help around the house, gardening, diy etc.. never once have i been able to persuade any jw's to do something worthwhile for these residents.. i'm left with the thought that jw's don't want to do anything really worthwhile for these people.......why ?.

They weren't taught to the second best thing,
Second best thing?
Mt 11:3-5
“Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” 4Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosyb are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.
James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. -

Maybe if only I was crooked and unscrupulous as hell I could duplicate their business model. Or at least develop a course and teach it.

StephaneLaliberte
Did you even read the story?
The man was far from suicidal.
He ran into the fixed bullshit of family law.
At its peak, his corporation "grossed" 186k - who knows the net. Regardless, that gross income plummeted due to technological change - the judge refused to ackowledge the change - he owes 6500 per month.
He then has a relationship with a lawyer - major mistake - his obligation increases to 8k per month. (He has paid 330k in legal costs.)
He cannot pay this impossible amount, so is jailed - his passport and drivers license are threatened.
Finally, his children are alienated from him.
I see no viable options for this poor soul.
(I have read with some amusement the trolls that bait this forum, receiving hundreds of incensed replies - but you, you have topped them all. I hope Karma repays you.)And just so people understand, his spousal support should be tax-deductible, but child support is not.
In order to SIMPLY pay 8k per month, this man needed to earn 133,280 per year. (https://salaryaftertax.com/ca ), an impossibility.

by CitizenofEarth inhello folks.
as some of you might know my dad couldnt keep quiet about my view of the world, so i have been "forced" to study with an elder.
otherwise i would be dragged to questioning, which is to much pressure for a young inexperienced person like me.

There is no "go-to" question to ask a cult member.
