I had breakfast with 50+ JWs on Sunday
by zimunzucz inwe pulled into a hotel parking lot saturday around 6pm on the return leg of a wonderful family vacation to new england - an then fate stepped in---a man in a suit got out of a car with the rest of a picture perfect family.
i immediately noticed all the name tags--- and my blood pressure spiked 50pts- damn!!
i was booked in a 4 story hotel full of jws-- the only time they took off the name tags was in the swimming pool- they were so proud of themselves.. at 6:30 am the hot water went cold in the wife's shower- what do you expect on the 4th floor when a herd of jws is trying to get ready at the same time?

Game of Thrones - Shunning
by berrygerry ini waited a week to avoid any spoilers.. last week's episode was harsh, to say the least.. a live burning-at-the-stake of a child to please the gods.. and yet, we have conventions taking place around the world - with bravos to those parents who sacrifice the emotional well-being of their children by shunning them.
clap-clap-clap.. what is worse, killing them outright, or the long, drawn-out emotional sacrifice demanded by the modern-day baal, gb 2.0?.

The Conundrum of "Taking the Lead"
by berrygerry infor a borganization that boasts of "happy family life" there is a striking disconnect, particularly post-50's happy days reality.. adherents who were faithful in not pursuing "a career" end up in dead-end jobs.
the wife has been programmed to not work, to not place children in daycare, and to somehow suffer it out financially as a family - while not missing any theocratic event, field service, monetary donations, kh building and maintenance.. the vast majority of elders seem to have a "stepford" wife at home, who has been encouraged by the borg telling her that "jehovah sees" her sacrifice of the time and lifestyle that her family has devoted to the borg.. very often, i have seen wives fed up with the bs and leave their husbands, sometimes their children, and certainly, the borg.. the females that stay seem brainwashed with the indoctrination, and any seeming unhappiness or failure must be the fault of not applying the borg's urgings.. having heard personally, and from others, that family happiness comes from the requirement of the male to "take the lead" lends to an interesting search:.

New David Splane Video: No 1900 Year Faithful Slave
by FusionTheism ingoverning body member david splane has a new video on tv.jw.org where he talks about all the horrible things committed by martin luther and the protestant reformers.. his conclusion is that there has been no faithful and discreet slave on the earth during the past 1900 years (before 1919 i guess.).
he also says that maybe there were a few anointed on earth, maybe not.. he did add an interesting statement that he doesn't condemn the other churches just for misunderstanding the bible because the society has done that.. another odd point, was that he actually mentioned catholic missionary work in a somewhat positive light, while totally condemning the reformation views on predestination..

Oppostate: "And he publicly posted the list of 95 theses* on unscriptural practices by the Papists and thus igniting the Protestant Reformation. Martin would be right here, or be JWfacts if he lived now.
Not just Luther, but all of the Protestants previously lauded by GB 1.0
Was thinking of Tyndale:
John Foxe describes an argument with a "learned" but "blasphemous" clergyman, who had asserted to Tyndale that, "We had better be without God's laws than the Pope's." Tyndale responded: "I defy the Pope, and all his laws; and if God spares my life, ere many years, I will cause the boy that driveth the plow to know more of the Scriptures than thou dost!"
GB 2.0 has moved towards the position that was held by the previously-despised RCC. The Bible cannot be understood except through the GB, and even if they're presently wrong, God wants us to obey them.
Tyndale could be reworded:
"I defy the
PopeGB, and allhistheir laws; and if God spares my life ... " -

WTS - Open and Transparent ?
by berrygerry inmet a nice person the other day who belonged to the salvation army.
(late 50's).
i do not know anything about them, other than their kettles at christmas, and that they used to have a shelter for homeless (often ridiculed as a haven for gay predators).. this member was talking about going on this disaster relief mission and that disaster relief mission - which quite surprised me.. was wanting to see them again, and ask if their org.

Was wanting to see them again, and ask if their org. provided them with financial statements.
And then realized that there was this new thingey called the internet.
Sure enough, they have audited statements, not just for members, but available for all the public, online, going back to 2005.

Wow, just like Watch Tower. /s

Recording that would blow up viral!
by aintenoughwiskey ini was wondering if anyone had an audio recording of a woman, preferably a minor being asked the intimate details of a fornication jc.
that would hit the fan hard.

It's a huge thing for anyone, esp. female, esp. young.
Also, remember people going into a JC have no idea that it will unfold as it does,
I imagine that the vast majority are shocked at how it proceeds, as well as the questions that are asked, and how the elders tag-team the questions.

Also, it seems very much like David Splane is the man in charge of looking at all of their old doctrine and "fixing it," since he also gave the big New Light talk about the Types and Antitypes.
I've crossed paths (not swords) far too often with Mr. Splane (CO - 3 times - many coincidences).
The first time I had him as CO, he CREEPED me out bigtime (and I was a full-in zealot at the time).
HOWEVER, of the current seven, he is the only one with an actual story-line going on in his head. I would say he is the only one to take care of present doctrine, alongside pup Sanderson.
(Just like war; when bogged down, send in the Canadians.)

New (non)-Witnessing Model
by berrygerry inso, one of the kids on reddit posted this video - an evangelist trying to witness to guardians of the cart.
(both sides are fairly respectful imo).

The Dub makes the interesting statement:
We're not here to discuss Bible, or argue with anyone. We're just here to provide free publications to people who want ...
So, is this because he's an evangelist, or are these trail-blazing pioneers simply there to Guard the Cart?
If so, wouldn't it behoove WTS to just invest in 24/7 vending machines?

So Paul G cites the term "governing body" doesn't appear in WT until 1943, and the capitalized version in 1971.
http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/governing-body.php
So, now there was no FDS prior to 1919.
So, who was the FDS prior to 1971, or at least prior to 1943?
