Could it be that Jehovah is punishing me for leaving his religion?
by Julia Orwell ini know it's a completely absurd thing to say, but something happened to me today that triggered the old cult reaction.
my mind instantly lapsed back into that of a jw and for a split second i thought that because i wasn't doing jehovah things that jehovah's blessing had been removed from me and this is why my life seems to be running into so many dead-ends.
as a jw i attributed anything good happening to me to being the result of my being a good jw and dutifully doing everything the borg teaches.

Why do Atheists Celebrate Christmas
by givemejustalittlemoretime inscientist and atheist richard dawkins has admitted he does celebrate christmas - and enjoys singing traditional christmas carols each festive season.. the writer and evolutionary biologist told singer jarvis cocker that he happily wishes everyone a merry christmas - and used to have a tree when his daughter was younger.. dawkins, one of the most famous atheists in the world, was interviewed by sheffield born cocker when he stepped in as a christmas guest editor on radio four's today programme.. 'i am perfectly happy on christmas day to say merry christmas to everybody,' dawkins said.
'i might sing christmas carols - once i was privileged to be invited to kings college, cambridge, for their christmas carols and loved it.. read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1100842/why-i-celebrate-christmas-worlds-famous-atheist.html#ixzz39dwxid00 ?.

Is their a new holocaust in the making ? Are jews being made the scapegoats again ?
by smiddy inmass immigration in the world "seems" to have led to a rise in anti -semitism in the west.
france now has more than six million muslims.. germany now has four million muslims.
the netherlands has almost one million muslims .

you know I don't see that much anti semetism.
i see people disgusted with the way the state of israel is behaving at the moment.
thats pretty natural.
i also see a lot if anti Muslim sentiment.
theres something funny about humans, we seem to really want to have an outsider to feel superior to, I wonder why?

accents are a funny thing. I grew up in an English family in Australia, I have lost count of the amount of times I get asked what part of England I am from. my family all spoke dialect, and when I went home I remembered it instantly....
you guys all keep your accents, it's what make you all special....

I don't think many people hate Jews at all.
it is totally possible to criticise the terrible behaviour of Israel and not be anti Jewish. they are two totally different things. I recently saw a protest march against the blood bath in Gaza, that had a group of Jews saying not in my name ..
as someone of Jewish heritage I applauded them, they spoke for me,
the real source if anti semetism is simply history. Apparently there is a biblical injunction against usury, I am sure there is, but have forgotten which one, and don't care enough to remember. So, what do you do, but bring in a group of outsiders... then when they are auccessful you can hate them, just as banks have been universally hated forever, and voila, you have a very convenient scape goat.....
but you have to work very hard to make people hate, so each generation has to be inculcated in hatred, thats how you get to pass it down.

English History - The Real Richard III - Warning: Nothing to do with JWs.
by fulltimestudent inwarning for thoe who want to read only jw related material: this thread has nothing to do with either the real or imagined world of the jws.
do not read if that upsets you!.
demonstrating how imagination can prevail over reality, the recent discovery of richard the third's remains has enabled forensic scientists to check what he may actually have looked like, and have been able to demonstrate that shakespeare's depiction of him was highly colored.

fulltimestudent i think the interpretation you are placing on the amazing finding is vastly different to that which many have placed on it. for generations it's been an accepted fact that Richard was in fact, not a hunchback and that it was all Elizabethan propaganda. Many were amazed with the discovery of his skeleton to discover that he was in fact, at least to a degree, hunchbacked...

when I first left I can recall thinking, but what if they are right...
That was more a symptom of my anxiety I think....
but it really doesn't matter if there is any divine being or not, what does matter is that I live my life with ethics and treat other people well.
besides that, there is nothing more

Does consciousness end with the death of the body
by givemejustalittlemoretime inapparently, the carvakas in anceint hinduism were materialists and skeptics, arguing that consciousness ends with the death of the body and that therefore we should take pleasure in this life while we possess it and practice compassion toward others.
they also argued that direct observation is the only certain way to know anything, and thus the existence of supernatural forces and realities cannot be established and must be rejected.

I think there's nothing out there, which is a comfort I think, and a prompt to make sure we live well now.
but many years ago after euthanising a much loved family pet, driving home with their dead body on my knee, I told them that as they were the only one in the car who knew if there was anything out there they could send me another pet in a little while, I specified two breeds, the gender and that they had to be nice. the next day there was a phone call from the vets, they had a new family member for me, both the breeds I mentioned, the right gender and very nice....go figure...a pretty good coincidence I think.
