InterNet Impact ???

having read through these posts for the past several weeks, i was just wondering:do you know (or heard) of any other groups (religous, politcal, corporate, etc.

) that are being impacted by the internet like wts?is anyone else warning their current membership of internet dangers from dissidents?are other anti-groups being formed via boards, blogs, chats?.

i'm sure that there must be others, but am interested in what you are seeing develop out there on the web.

my wife just hired a new housekeeper yesterday.. she found her name in the local papers and decided to give her a call.

after checking her references my wife agreed to let her come to the house yesterday to clean on a trail basis.. over the phone she used the phrase "critical times".

this imediately set off alarms in my wife's head that this woman could be a dub.

The dub saw it and asked my wife if she enjoyed reading the book. The wife said no and that she had just forgotten to throw it in the trash. and she tossed it in the garbage.

Make sure you check the trash can. The housekeeper may have retreived it to place at a 'more worthy' employer.

When I was a housekeeper, I dumpster dived. I would dig for newspapers (coupons), cans, and even rubber bands. I'm sure when she saw that book being thrown in the trash, she was horrified that "Jah's spiritual food" was being wasted. I bet she took the book and won't be back.

Cleaning bookshelves - what do I do with extra WT books?

i have duplicates of several books like the revelation book, creation book, live forever, young people ask, all scripture is inspired and even jehovah's witnesses in the divine purpose.

since i've been collecting wt books since 1960, i need to get rid of some of the extras.

should i put them on e-bay?

The newer ones don't do well on ebay. Type in the title and click "completed auctions" to see what each one has went for. I sold the ones that would bring at least a dollar (I'm an ebay nut) and burned the rest.

Yeah, it felt good too! I saved the Youth book for last. My daughter kept trying to throw it in the fire for me. I said, "No... that one is ALL MINE!"

Many thanks for the responses. I know the official results come out at year's end, but in earlier years, didn't the Kingdom Ministry give the figures shortly after the memorial?

The June 1952 "Informant" has these numbers...
1952 Memorial Attend. - 196,266 ; Number Partakers - 8,968
1951 Memorial Attend. - 178,728 ; Number Partakers - 9,778
Funny, it hasen't went down much in 53 years.

i have been listing some old "infromants" (old kingdom ministry) on ebay tonight.

i was typing the topics in the decription and realized that it truely is just a publishing company.

i didn't have to stretch the truth (lol) at all.

I just can't believe this! They even called congregations "companies". Quote from a different one... "Along with this Informant the Society is sending a personal letter for each publisher associated with the company. The company servant will see that each one receives his copy. Twenty to thirty minutes should be spent at two early service meetings to thoroughly analyze the contents of this letter."

What are some weird things that you do?

everyone has their own idiosyncrises, mine is- .

when i get a new book, i'll open it up to the middle of the book and stick my nose in the binding for about ten seconds, and smell how the glue, ink, and fresh paper smell.

ahhhh i love that smell.

I go on the scale every 20 to 30 minutes?...Is that weird does anyone do that?

I go on the scale at least 5 times a day. If I have shoes on, I subtract 5 pounds. That will give me a good estimate of what I will weigh the next morning. If I don't have shoes on but have clothes on, I subtract 3 pounds.

You must have lost a lot of weight sometime in your life. I've went from 206 down to 124 when I was 24. Right now, I'm stuck somewhere in the middle. I'm not telling where! Darn kids!

may i ask a few questions?

i'm sure some have already been asked, and some are not meant to be hurtful, i just don't understand.

backround- i am not jw, in fact quite anti jw, husband has been studying for about two years, not baptized, not field service, i know doctine quite well, flipflops, un, new 1914, etc......... do any of you feel 'guilty' for getting someone 'in'?

Yeah, this is information overload on this site. TONS more people and if you have a question... they have an answer. Also a lot of people here that are actively trying to make a difference and expose the WBTS for what it is. I'm not trying to put the other board down, it's just that most of us have been out so long we have "let go" of a lot of issues... maybe even hardened. You will learn a lot here (I'm addicted), but don't forget us on the other board, k?
