I remember getting very annoyed at my mother's reaction when I was much in my teens and a bank teller said take it easy as we left. She said under her breath "what if I don't want to take it easy?" It was so juvenile, it really stuck with me. I had no idea, though that it was a common jw thing.

TAKE IT EASY!! DON'T SAY THAT AFTER A CONVERSATION!
by NoMoreHustle inthis drives me insane when i am rebutted after i say "well take it easy brother so & so" after a small conversation.
they always seem to reply "we are in jehovah's organization there is no taking it easy" or "we are in the last days brother we don't have time to take it easy".
i guess this makes me a care-free man of the world rather than a spiritual man!!

Conversation with 4 elders: A study in smear tactics.
by problemaddict inbucket shop bill has a thread in which they are "counseled" for something, that ends up not even being true.
instead of the elder who made the accusation apologizing to them, they are made to feel like they should appreciate his overexuberence.. it struck me that this is a common tactic.
here is a story of my own.

If it's going to be someone else who's adding everything up, fill out two slips. The first should be a largish sum that you'll never pay (which will hopefully force the congregation to give a number of local needs talks when they fall short each month) and the second should simply have "Matt. 5:33-35" written on it.
If you're counting it up, fudge the numbers so that you end up peldging about 50% extra. That'll really screw with 'em.

A new member
by LP97 ini'm a 17 year old from scotland.
can i just say this site is absolutely brilliant.
finally found people with open minds and free thought that doesn't just consist of "well the wt told me this so it must be right".. my story is that i'm just like any other child of a jw...brought up into a life of indoctrination where "the world's" thinking is automatically wrong.. that is until i was 14 - a light turned on in my head.

Wow, you're really lucky. My parents had me signed up as a publisher by 9 years old. You won't even show up as inactive, so the elders will probably just forget about ya. What I wouldn't give to have been in your situation at your age. Well done, sir.

Congrats on waking up so young. I wish I'd been able to do that myself...probably would've if I hadn't met my wife.
Are you baptized? Hopefully not, since it'll make things a ton easier for you and your parents. It makes me so happy knowing that yet another person has saved themselves from this cult! Thanks for sharing your story!

I had to, otherwise what's the point in staying a JW?
Now, I didn't believe that I (as I know myself) would be happy living forever in the environment suggested in the publications. I knew that I'd essentially have to be lobotomized to be happy living as a vegan working as a farmer/construction worker for eternity.

Telephone Conversations Today with 2 Elders Re: Shunning - Or Not?
by abbasgreta inmy alcoholic and aged jw mother is now extremely ill and is being cared for in every respect by my non-jw brother.
3 sisters visited him yesterday and were adamant.
that i (disassociated and shunned by her for nearly 3 years) was able to 'visit her any time' and that ' there was nothing to stop me seeing her' as long as i. didn't discuss spiritual things with her.

How would you feel if she died and you didn't go to see her? Probably a lot worse than she'd feel if you died while she was still shunning you.

evil thought about jw.org
by JeffT inso what happens if we start posting links on porn sites and the like?
i don't usually suggest this sort of thing, but it would sure give somebody at hq pause for thought when he realizes where all their hits are originating.

Lets not advertise JW.org for them. I'm sure a pretty good percentage of people on porn sites have a twinge of guilt about their being there, and it would be a shame if someone got sucked into this cult because we posted a link on a porn site in order to play a joke on the GB (who likely wouldn't give a rat's ass).

Not invited to my nephews wedding
by outforever inknew that this would be the case - so not surprised.
quite happy to not go - as i would not like to see my mother / or my big sister at all.
this nephew is my small sisters son - my small sister and myself are very close - she does not go to the meetings anymore for quite a while now, her eyes have been opened.

These threads always make me feel terrible. Some of my family didn't get invites to my wedding, and they were never even baptized. I was so self righteous, I always said "they might as well be df'd because they were raised in the truth and left." To be fair, even without the cult I wouldn't be likely to be close with them as our personalities always clashed, but that's no excuse to have hurt them the way I did.
The worst part is that since I haven't talked to them in years, and don't know where they are with TTATT, I can't really even appologize to them. The only way I have of getting in contact with them would be through other family members who are in the cult, and that'd certainly raise some eyebrows.
