Yeah, when they went down to one awake per month, they said it was because the awake would be changing to have a greater emphasis on biblical topics, and as such it was more similar to the WT so we didn't need two anymore. Essentially, they've directly admitted that there's no difference between them anymore.

Awake! and public Watchtower almost identical for appearance and content
by yadda yadda 2 ini was in a chinese take-out the other day and saw a couple of very recent awake and watchtower magazines on the counter, amongst other magazines.. i had a good flick through both of them and noticed how very similar both magazines now appear in terms of appearance and content.
i was left with the distinct impression that the public edition watchtower is now basically indiscernable from the awake!
regarding content.

JW.org Lapel Pins for I.D. ?
by ShirleyW intoday was the first time i've seen a bro wearing a jw.
org lapel pin, actually much, much larger than an actual lapel pin.
square shaped, the background was olive green but the letters were white in bold letters.

A few weeks ago I saw my first lapel pin. A woman in my serve-us group was wearing it. I'd seen pictures and reports of people wearying them on here, but it actually made me nauseous when I saw it.
I'm sure it's going to be the new "thing" to do in order to be in the it crowd of the super zealous.

So what if a persons being gay interferes emotionally or physically on a parent or loved one?
What if being alive interferes emotionally or physically on a parent or loved one?
What if your father had a strong desire to kill you, and not doing so made him really unhappy. Would you see your very existence as something that you have no right to, because it interferes emotionally with your father?

Sorry I haven't been responding to posters comments. I found something interesting with what you said. You talked about how homosexuality appears in the animal kingdom.
I was watching a show on Discovery Planet on how some different animal species will kill and eat their young babies after birth.
So would it be natural if a human parent kill and eat their babies just how homosexuality is okay among the human species?
I know this wasn't directed at me, but I'll take a stab at it. We (as humans) tend to value life. Therefore the life of an infant is something that shouldn't be destroyed, especially once the thing has been born. There's obviously some debate on the whole abortion topic, but once a child is born, most developed countries have provisions in place to take the kid off your hands - you needn't kill it just to be able to avoid raising a kid, so most would agree that it's morally wrong to kill your own child.
I suspect that talking about homosexuality in the animal kingdom was less of an encouragement to look at animals to learn morality (animals kill each other in a fight for a mate, but we humans typically look down on that sort of thing, too) but it was an admonition to look at the fact that some animals seem to develop strong homosexual tendencies. Since these animals are not typically considered self aware, it would be hard to argue that they're making a conscious choice to be homosexual. This is an effective means of demonstrating to a heterosexual person that homosexuality in humans is likely not a conscous choice in all (or even most) cases. The point is, gays are often born gay - so why should they have to suffer due to something outside of their control? If they can find a way to be happy (i.e. find another gay partner) in a way that doesn't interfere with any unwilling participant's happiness, why shouldn't they?

What if a person found happiness and joy in murdering people or if a school bully found happiness in beating kids people up? Or terrorist found happiness and joy in driving planes through tall buildings? Would it be correct for them to pursue those things?
Careful, now. Comparing what gays do (I'm assuming that's what you're still speaking in reference to) to murder or acts of terrorism is likely to get you some pretty negative response.
Your rights end where another's begin. Your right to persue happiness ends when it would interfere with someone else's right to life. I.e. you don't get to kill people because it makes you happy. Obviously there are complex situations that you can get into, but in most cases it's pretty cut and dry. If two people want to have sex, they should go for it. If one person wants to have sex with someone else, and the other person doesn't want to do it, no dice.

So why the double standards for God?
by suavojr inwhen a man commits genocide, violates human rights, has no respect for life and kills anyone who does not conform to his ideology as ruler.
by modern ethical standards; we consider such a man as a dictator and a criminal.
it is irrelevant whether the victims were wholesome, good, bad, ugly, strange or just plain creepy.

Bug out bags?
by SpeedRacer inmy son sees his grandparents who are active jw's and has told me that they now have bugout bags by the door by direction of the society.
my question is, if s*&t hits the fan where are they bugging too?
everybody meeting at the hall?
-
OneEyedJoe
Yeah, they're more or less reasonable about the bug out bag thing, but I don't think they're encouraging it due to reasonable concern for the well-being fo the 'flock.' They're doing a local needs part about what to do in a disaster about once a year (in spite of the fact that there's never been a large-scale disaster in the area) just to keep a certain level of fear in the R/F. They want the R/F constantly paranoid about when the GT might start so as to keep them in control.
It's never said in the disaster preparedness parts where people should go in an emergency, but in the "do as you're told even if it doesn't make sense" type talks, they tend to put across the idea that the GB is going to have an inside scoop as to when the GT is starting, and they're going to call us all to the KH for refuge.

BORG running low on $$$??
by fader77 indear brothers:.
re: personal literature supply.
reducing existing stock at the branch office before the revisions are released.
-
OneEyedJoe
So if I contributed for the literature when I got them, do I get a rebate when I turn it back in?
You have a great point...the org is not only trying to save money by getting people to use less literature, by having people turn in old stuff and re-use it, they're also trying to maintain the current level of "literature donations"

Why Do Religions Lack A Sense Of Irony?
by metatron inhttp://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/iranians-behind-tehran-version-of-happy-sentenced-to-six-months-in-prison-and-91-lashes-9741014.html.
good grief.
the more fanatical the religion, the more it seems to lack a sense of self reflective irony.. .
-
OneEyedJoe
A sense of irony requires a certain amount of objectivity. So the wackier the belief system, the less objectivity the adherents have and therefore the less they're able to take a joke.
The lack of objectivity is enforced by the fact that a) people instinctively know that if they look at things objectively their belief system will fall apart and b) those that have a certain level of objectivity are the ones that eventually leave behind the wacky beliefs.

I loathe authority
by punkofnice innow i'm not preaching hatred here i am just expressing how i've felt for years even when i was a jw.. i totally loathe the police/policticians...any authority......anyone that is over anyone else.
i have a total hatred of them all.
i wonder if it's because i was raised a jw?.
-
OneEyedJoe
I don't loathe authority per se, but I do loathe misplaced and misused authority, which seems to be the most common form. Hipocrites are also up there on my list, and there's a lot of overlap.
