New WTS end date - 2034?

so i already made an introductory thread where i said hello and mentioned my feelings toward 2034 being the wts new end date.. we get the year 2034 from matt 24:37 & luke 17:26. the wt commented on the "days of noah" in a qfr article 2010 12/15.

where its stated: "it is logical, therefore, to conclude that genesis 6:3 expresses gods resolve to end the corrupt system of things on earth.

jehovah issued a judicial decree to do so in 120 years, though noah was not yet aware of that.

It certainly wouldn't be surprising. The current GB has likely all but forgotten the 1975 fiasco (I think sanderson would've been all of 10 years old) and probably the lessons learned along with it. In 10 years or so the GB will probably include a few more guys that have forgotten 1975, or weren't around at that time. If they've all bought into the lie that it was a few JWs that were overzealous with their speculation, it would be awfully tempting to start implying that 2034 is the new date.

Also, I think the JWs could really use a new end-times prediction. In the near term it'll get everyone amped up again (which will bring in the cash) and in the long term it'll clear out the fence-sitters (who probably aren't giving money anyway) which will allow consolidation of KHs (more cash coming in). Then, after it's all said and done, there will be left a fiercely loyal group of core followers who will actually be more convinced than ever of the divinity of the GB by the whole thing because it will be just too costly to admit that they've devoted all their time and resources to false prophets.

out of the blue my wife started to ask me about my feeling about the borg.

i told her i didn't want to talk about it...she persisted.

she already knows how i feel, i told her that my biggest beef is that they use mind control, and yep she went in to how i was an apostate and how she doesn't want to be married to an apostate.

Hang in there, man. As was said before - try to engage only with her natural personality, when the cult personality is controlling her, just shut down, or if she comes at you all of a sudden, you might be able to deflect by asking her what brings this up. It's so difficult not to just jump right in with all the proof that it's a cult when you're being challenged, but sometimes you have to make a strategic withdraw to win later. I'm the type that I like to debate and present a solid argument/proof of my point, but convincing the other person is secondary to beating them. It's really tough to switch gears to letting some bit of completely flawed reasoning go unchallenged in the interests of convincing someone over presenting a good argument.

Also, while it may be true, pushing the 'mind control' business might not be the most effective approach. No one under mind control actually believes they're being controlled or manipulated - that's why it works. So when you say that, you're directly and succinctly challenging the very reality in which she lives. This is like someone coming to you and asserting that your children are hallucinations and that you're schizophrenic - you'd probably not take it very well if they continued to press the issue.

When asked what your problem is with the cult, you might change to something like "my problem is that it seems to be the source of all the arguments that I have with the woman that I love." It's tough to hold back and remain calm, but one of you needs to and it's sure not going to be her.

I haven't dealt with anything on this level yet myself, but I'm sure it's coming. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, and heisenburg - maybe you should start another thread. It's rather insensitive to come in here and defend the cult that's trying to break up someone's marriage.

The importance of submitting a field service report is considered again in this weeks WT study.
Nov 15,2014 Page 16, par 13. The scripture to support this is 2 Peter 1:7. Please do not ask how!!

I just read it, and all I can say is wow. They really can't even find any justification for submitting FS reports. NONE. They make an assertion that it's an important part of our godly devotion (the only tie-in to 2 Peter) but they don't back that up with anything. Then they imply that god only appreciates our time in the ministry if it's reported! Viewed objectively, this paragraph is great at illustrating how they conflate the organization with god.

It's really telling when they have paragraphs like this - I've started noticing this more after my awakening. They'll have one, maybe two, very loosely related scriptural citations at the beginning, make some assertion that this is somehow related to whatever they're trying to prove, then go on to state a bunch of nonsense as fact with no scriptural backing. The people writing it MUST know that it's total BS just from the stark difference in composition between these blind assertions and the articles written on scripturally-supported doctrines.

Personally, I wish I could somehow do the family worship with my wife - it might well help me to wake her up. We never did it before, though, so it would seem odd if I started at the time when all signs point to me not giving a crap about being "spiritual"

Conti Appeal Preview - Oral Argument Jan 14

with hopefully a good deal of interest here in the conti appeal tomorrow (or later today, depending on where you are), i thought that on my ride home from work tonight i'd preview what to expect and what i think the key issues are for any who are interested.

i have had a busy few weeks and haven't had time to read everything, but i had some time to look at the appeal briefs during my work commute the past couple days.

it'll be interesting to see what develops out of the network news coverage of this case.

elders assigning a child to work with a known pedophile in field service, is probably unlikely to exist in other cases.

I thought that, but apparently that's exactly what happened in the other case that the WTS just lost to Zalkin. They assigned the pedophile to study (so even worse than going in FS) with the victim since his father wasn't in the cult.

The malfeasance issue seems to be the strongest point the WT has - who remembers who assigned who to work with who in field service last week, let alone 15 years ago?

I'd guess the kid that got raped as a result might remember. The point is sound though, there's not likely to be any clear testimony on this topic and even if there was it would be easy to dismiss due to the time that's passed. I can't think how there'd ever be any hard evidence of such an assignment, either.

Hopefully a precedent will be set and the sharks will begin to circle.

The appeal to consequences (if we evolved/there's no god, then my life has no meaning) seems to be pretty effective at keeping people stuck in silly belief systems, or driving them further in when they feel threatened.

The other day I was bored at the KH and skimmed through the KM. There was a sample presentation for one of the brochures on how life began or whatever and the presentation essentially followed this formula. Ask what the HH believes, read a quote about how empty life is for evolutionists and then explain to them that if they'll believe in fairy tales in the face of all evidence they can be happier.

Very good find. This JW has been struggling a lot during his time in the WT and never really felt comfortable in FS. He has known something was up for a while but probably could not put his finger on it.
I hope he is happier now and out of WT.

If I remember correctly from the previous thread (tried in vain to find it) he was fully awake to TTATT (thus why he'd think to record this conversation) and working on his exit.

Are you serious? Does the fact that a Catholic is willing to overlook the faults in his own religion make it right for a Jehovah's Witness to ignore the faults in his own religion?

My point was that this effectively shows their hypocrisy - an unwillingness to act on evidence that they don't have the truth, but they won't recognize the validity of the same excuse used by someone of another faith.
