hello all... i currently studying the bible teach book and i'm just curious what information does the study conductor record about the student and is it passed on??

and they keep on saying "the truth" which is starting to get on my nerves.

Usually they just keep your name, contact details, what publications they've left you and maybe a few personal details (children, hobbies/interests, notable personal problems, etc)

The only reason I can think of for passing it on is if they couldn't do the study anymore, in which case they'll give it to whoever takes over.

Do you mind if I ask what lead to your accepting a study? Do you have other jw family or aquaintences?

If you're interested, the site jwfacts.com has lots of information on jws, and what they currently teach, as well as what they've taught in the past. As a currently active jw, I found that website quite eye-opening and to be completely accurate.

Why are JW talks & publications never uplifting?

i was sitting at the meeting the other night and for the first time it hit, jw talks or magazines are never uplifting!

i rarely, if ever hear a talk or read a magazines and have it give nothing but praise to jehovahs servants or just praise jehovah and jesus throughout it.

they never just a read through the bible or just a bible story explained or told.

Yeah, they definitely speak out of both sides of their mouth. But when you compare the frequency of their words, you get what they're really saying. Like in another thread I commented on the fact that they definitely have articles about not judging others, etc, etc. The problem is that every other week theres an article about bad association and how do you determine bad association? Well you have to make a judgement...

They pay lip service to up building things, but it's overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the beat-down guilt-trip.

JW TV is the reason for the hysteria in the KH

if you, like me, have noticed the sudden increase in hysteria in the khs right now, i put it down to that jw tv site.

its's far more extensive than i thought it was, i thought it was just 1, 1 hour program a month.

there's a s*** load of videos on that site.. and the real problem, from just watching a clip from each video, is that these guys are clearly "mentally unstable".

Yeah, the only way we get a jonestown type thing is if the GB manages to get themselves in a really tight spot and can't see any way out other than suicide. I can see that happening at some point, but probably not for several decades. If all the money runs out though, I wouldn't put it past 'em.

Ya know - we're all on the bandwagon here, but thinking about this I recall that our last CO actually did give a few talks that were somewhat up building. He said things I'd never heard from the platform before. Among them was something like 'you know we sometimes get down on ourselves because we know we could do this better or do more of that, but when you really look at it, we're already so much better than those in the world. We're already doing good so you don't need to be so harsh on yourselves.' Obviously this is still skewed in the direction of "the whole world is evil" but it was literally the only time I've heard a CO give a talk and didn't give us a single thing to 'do better' on.

They had a perfect opportunity to up build during the Zone (zoned out) meeting. They had over 1 million people listening and the final talk was on tight pants, 23 yr. old MS's, and Spanx? With all the problems everyone is facing, this is what they choose to discuss?

I brought this up when my in-laws were talking about the zone visit. I've been pretty open about my stance that AMIII was making pharisiacal rules and going beyond the things written. My father-in-law's only rebuttal was that "we were getting a window into what it's like a bethel - it's a whole different world and they have to set higher standards so that the world can't pick out any flaws." Even when I emphasize that they had an unprecedented opportunity to build up 1 million JWs all at once, and they squandered it he sticks to this. Basically it was a privilege for us to get to see more of them and they shouldn't have to change anything for us.

Perpetually guilty people are easier to manipulate. If someone's beaten down enough they lose the self-confidence to question or to act in their own interests at the expense of leadership.

Haha, you know, that actually crossed my mind 2 Sunday's ago during the blood Watchtower. In my mind I could not figure out how we ended up on the blood topic with how the Watchtower started. Full 360 on what started.

Yeah, I was quite perplexed myself. The title was something about being holy, and to read the article you'd think that the majority of what it takes to be holy is rejecting a blood transfusion.

in his first talk of the week the co mentioned that people don't get df'd for joining the military or registering to vote because they are already gone, as compared with smoking secretly, which would merit df'ing.. i have been toying around with registering to vote in the next election (us) so this intrigues me..

Would a CO really do that? Just go on stage and tell lies?

I thought voting was a "conscience matter" now, no?

In cases where it's legally required to vote JWs are encouraged to essentially make a show of going into the booth without actually voting, or writing in "Jehovah" or something. Otherwise it isn't a conscience matter.

Need advice on a comeback to my wife: when she is in cult mode she says faith without works is dead.

so i have gotten into arguements with my wife in the past about this cult.

now a days after reading steve hassan books...i just try and avoid anything jdub with her.

try to keep her in authentic mode..(not sure she really has one).

Stumbled upon this while putting together a reply for another thread. Here's what I'd used to rebut any claim that faith without works is dead and works=preaching.

1 Timothy 5:9,10 (JW "bible") -

9 A widow is to be put on the list if she is not less than 60 years old, was the wife of one husband, 10 having a reputation for fine works, if she raised children, if she practiced hospitality, if she washed the feet of holy ones, if she assisted the afflicted, if she devoted herself to every good work.

Just read that and ask "what are the 'fine works' as defined by paul? What do all of the things listed have in common?" Everything listed is about caring for family responsibilities and being hospitable and caring to others. Everything listed is about taking care of a physical need, not about preaching or taking care of "spiritual" needs.

So you can agree that faith without works is dead, but disagree that the works required to display faith include preaching.
