List your favorite, overused scripture by JW's!

the title says it all.

list a scripture that is way over used.. it could be a scripture that the point is completely missed by how they use it.

it could also be one that they use so much it's as if the rest of the bible didn't exits.. my two favorite are proverbs 4:18 and ezekiel chapter 1 +a few verses.

I think the aspect of the indoctrination that kept me mentally imprisoned for so long was the notion that you can't trust yourself. Usually they're pretty subtle about this, but sometimes they're pretty up front about it. So while it's not the most overused scripture, it's certainly up there:

Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate. Who can know it?

Feeling like your life would be better outside the cult? It's just your treacherous, desperate heart fooling you.

It seems like a rare moment of honesty, though - the abstract asks how something (disfellowshipping) that brings so much pain can be for the good. Of course if they maintained that honesty they'd answer that it isn't for anyone's good.

now a days after reading steve hassan books...i just try and avoid anything jdub with her.

try to keep her in authentic mode..(not sure she really has one).

Splash pretty much summed it up - read the scripture to her in context and ask what part of that is she doing. Or ask where the ministry is in that scripture.

This is nuts. Do the cult leaders think that "worldly people" are going to be drawn into the Kingdom Hall because they are going to go out of their way to drive into the parking lot, get out and look in the window?

Yeah, that's why it seems fairly clear that this change is solely meant to increase resale value for when the property matures. They're in the final stages of the transition from a literature-based ponzi scheme to a real-estate based one.

2014 Statistics and Graphs for USA, UK and Australia

i have done a breakdown for the usa, since the majority on this forum are american, along with the uk and australia.

us growth has slowed, but still moving along, but uk and australia have are at a virtual standstill, and in fact decreasing against population growth.. .

I still think that there is growth in the US because of the Spanish and with the changes in the policies by the government this growth will continue as more foreigners arrive.

I agree - the growth is mostly spanish and other immigrants. There've been a few small foreign language groups springing up here lately, but I honestly can't remember the last time I heard of a new english congregation forming. Sure, they're building/remodeling KHs, but the only new congregations are foreign-language groups. They're just using the foreign language groups to shuffle congregations around, playing a shell game so that no one realizes that KHs are being sold very nearly as much as they're being built.

Well, I didn't mean this thread to become a debate about the existence of god, but in hindsight I suppose that's sorta what happens any time you point out the logical inconsistencies in any "christian" (quotes because JWs aren't quite christians) religions reasoning for trusting the bible. The main issue for me was just that they can't seem to get through a single chapter or study article without employing glaring fallacy.

In any event, I certainly fail to see how someone can say that it was OK for the isrealites to murder children in order to keep their parents from sacrificing them to their god. I also can't understand how someone could feel that the isrealites were justified when they killed for god, but condemn muslims for doing exactly the same.

Circuit Assembly outline

i've been out of the religion for a little while now but my family is still "strong in the truth".

i got a call today asking if i could stop by to have a discussion.

they just had their circuit assembly and this is typically when they decide to talk to me, while they're spiritually energized hah.

I'll be honest - I went but didn't pay very good attention. There was a part that probably particularly affected your family, though. They talked about inactive people, and gave a bunch of reasons why someone might be inactive (realizing it's a cult and a scam wasn't among them, surprisingly) and encouraged people to "help" their inactive relatives.
