Wait, so that thread about child cannibalism that I've been avoiding was supposed to be about something else? -

Dangerous "Pent up" feelings inside of most witnesses?
by stuckinarut2 ini have often wondered if there is more harm done to people who are stifled or smothered from expressing their natural conduct, feelings or actions because of it being condemned by religious ideals?.
so if a person keeps suppressing their real personality and tries to mould themselves to the "perfect" or "ideal" version as expected from those controlling them, could they eventually "bust" so to speak?.
for instance, witnesses condemn many forms of entertainment.

Based on the rampant claims of things like chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalga, lower back problems, hives, chronic pain, etc, etc. I think there's got to be something tremendously unhealthy about the lifestyle. There seems to be a disproportionately great number of psychologically influenced conditions among JWs. At least in my area, but it seems that this isn't limited to one place based on what I've read on the forum.
Adding in things like excessive drinking, overeating, etc that people also do when dealing with mental stress and you start to see why so many JWs have things like gout, diabetes, and heart problems too. All likely caused by either the "can never do enough" lifestyle or repressing inner thoughts/doubts.

"I just don't like being lied to"
by stuckinarut2 inso i dropped this comment to someone from "my" congregation...... "i just don't like being lied to".... this was in response to their attempt to become my 'bff' (i'm sarcastically using the expression 'best friends forever' here).
i ran into them in the street.
they started chatting all about the cong gossip, teachings, upcoming witness events etc.... i was just quiet and not really contributing to the conversation.. when she asked "so what's new with you?

Such a good line. I've used that with my wife (though that's gone a bit differently haha). It's great because it's expressing a feeling that no one can argue with and only indirectly makes an accusation. I'm sure you'll get some more conversations with your new BFFs though! -

The multitude that no man can number
by SonoftheTrinity inhow can protection from destruction at armageddon be solely with the jehovah's witnesses when the great multitude is one that no man could number while the jehovah's witnesses put great effort into cooking statistics of how many jws there are worldwide?
the unscriptural scare tactics they use are blatantly insulting to anyone who can read a bible.

Haha, yeah I think I wondered that myself at some point. I justified it by including in the "great crowd" the unrighteous that would be resurrected, but I'm not sure if that has any basis in the bible or JW doctrine. -

Don't give up hope completely. It may just be a matter of finding the one thing that she's clinging to. Everyone has their points of doctrine or culture or whatever that are important to them personally and the rest is just like a bullfighter's cape - it only serves as a false target for you and doesn't impact their faith even a little.
Or it may just be a matter of piling on the straws until the camel's back breaks. Either way, there's always an ounce of hope. As long as your marriage is working, keep trying to live a genuine life for yourself and hopefully (probably) she'll eventually be caught in your wake.
Asking questions doesn't always work. Even though my wife woke up, asking questions made her upset. She said I was being condescending by asking questions. She said it felt like I was trying to teach her.
We might be married to the same woman.

Just like Jehovah's organization in the past (the nation of isreal, and later the christian congregation) could never be corrupted. Oh....wait... -

I'm my favorite type of JW - Double Life
by thedepressedsoul inthe borg's tactics on most jw work.
they put fear into their mind, they guilt trip them and basically make them scared to do anything when they are away from the kingdom hall.
it allows them to control every aspect of their life.

I guess the part that I find so objectionable is the tacit approval that simply being in the seat (and apparently you're an elder, too?) gives. For about a year I prevented myself from finding TTATT because there was an elder in our congregation that was really intelligent and I liked him very much personally and I told myself "If he doesn't see a problem with it, then maybe I'm fooling myself." I never talked to him about my doubts, just held him up as an example of a sane, normal, intelligent man that clearly saw it as the truth.
If I found out that he had been faking it for over a decade, I guess I'd be pretty upset.
Just another perspective in case that's something you might worry about. It's impossible to know how you may be negatively impacting the lives of others just by your mere presence. Especially if you're an elder.
