Ony J.W.'s could do this and not question what is going on

at the meeting today several elders commented about the wonderful program that they attended yesterday on the new kingdom hall designs.

they said that the new halls are going to be so beautiful with lots of windows and glass panels and that the lights will be kept on in the lobby 24/7 so that you can see into the hall at night and that thousands of these halls must be built.

then five minutes later they are talking about how close the end is and that we will be meeting in basements in the near future.

@stuck in the 50's... the 60's... the 70's... the 80's....the 90's .... the end was close too. Question is was it wise of them to purchase and build a lot of stuff during those decades or not?

What would have happened if they would not have build anything 'because the end was so close' ?

So from their perspective it's very logical to keep on building, even when the end is so close simply because a few decades wont make a real difference if you look at 6000 years of biblical human history if the end comes now or in 75 years its still close on that timescale.

i am a big tennis fan and today i watched serena williams win the australian open, one of the four tournaments which make up the pinnacle of achievement in the tennis world, the grand slam.

in her victory speech the first thing she said was that she thanked her god jehovah for the victory.

now i know that rumours have circulated for a long time as to whether she is a baptised witness or not, but she is definitely associated with witnesses .

she is not baptised.. her mother is a witness and they have two halfsisters active JW Isha Price and Lyndrea Price

@konceptual i cannot comment on the situation and example you refer to simply because i am not familiar with that situation/location. As far as elders are concerned they are responsible for their congregation and should trust the brothers at the branch and international offices, just like all the other JW's should trust the brothers.

within JW ranks there is not a real movement of people who think there is any reason to distrust the organisation. things are going fine as far as the majority is concerned.

@blondie i am in a hall that houses 3 congregations in total combined they donate U$3850 every month to the new arrangement and about U$2100 to the worldwide work. Also when the arrangement started bank accounts were cleared and sent to the branch. That was a total of U$59,000 from our Kingdom Hall.

Before the new arrangement there was also a box for kingdom halls around the world but the combined total of three congregations that was sent to the branch when that arrangement was in place was never more than U$500 a month.

So now they get 3350 more every single month.... from just one kingdom hall

@VI it's not boasting, it's a fact.

To name a few things,...

The new arrangement does bring in much more (and will continue to do so) than ever before and so does the real estate.

Also costs are reduced by new equipment, able to do much more and more efficiently at reduced costs.

Centralising the work by merging branch offices, building more and bigger assembly halls and so reducing costs of renting facilities for district conventions. Reducing costs on thousands of products by a centralised purchasing department. A new strategy for New Kingdom Halls is in the making that means selling old ones and building cost efficient new ones. .

@konceptual congregations that need a new hall will get a new hall

I know hundreds of active witnesses but never heard one about wanting to know about the international accounts.

Only on boards like this you hear people screaming about transparency... people that no longer contribute and from which the majority is not even a witness anymore.

@blondie in some congregations it is still read out aloud at the service meeting once a month. In all others it is on the information board as well as the monthly thank you notes/confirmations of the branch offices for received donations from the congregation.

@Jonathan they did not pay anything yet. And what they did pay over the years to out of court settlements is just a tiny tiny drop from the bucket not even worth mentioning. Besides that every JW is part of the organisation. So if the organisation is forced to pay things they collectively share the burden.

@Sir82 trust me the financial health of the WTBTS has never been better

So lets assume the persons shown donated 10 euros to the worldwide fund... And now they would like or think they are entitled to international transparency?

Are you out of your mind? If theydont trust it they should stop donating or donate only to local expenses

Plans for huge Jehovah's HQ take shape

plans for a huge jehovahs witness commune on the outskirts of chelmsford are gathering pace.. the international bible students association, the charity which manages jehovahs witnesses printing and literature distribution, wants to create a new british headquarters.. the 82-acre site (about 15 football pitches) at temple farm site, off ship road, west hanningfield.. the plans include a printery - producing bible-based literature - admin and language translation of?ces, video and sound production studios, an auditorium, training centre and workshops all on site.. plus there will be one and two bedroom apartments - for up to 1,200 residents and visitors - along with onsite caterers, laundrettes and healthcare facilities.. the site would also have its own energy centre - making it self-sufficient - and a new access road would also be built from temple wood.. a resident from stock, 60, who didnt want to be named, said: its all a bit sci-fi if you ask me.

its a very unusual development, a commune really.

i wouldnt say i was against it as it is all a bit of a mess at that site at the moment.. the land, currently occupied by a car breakers yard, was removed from the green belt by chelmsford city council in 2008 and earmarked for employment use.. ibsa agreed to buy the land from its current owners in december, as long as they get planning permission for the project.
