Hi Truthseeker, and welcome
Bit puzzled by your opening sentence are you saying were not baptised ? If so how can they disfellowship you?

I have found the truth about the truth now...
by truthseeker12 ini am a third generation of jehovah witnesses, even if i never got baptized.
however, they disfellowship me when i was around 15. this was around 1987. even if i have not been in the "truth" for so many years it has affected all my life in many ways not only negative.
a couple of years ago i thought the events in the world maybe proved to me that they were right after all.

Is Jehovah Telling the Governing Body to Shut Down?
by metatron inis the governing body haunted by the thought that jehovah is telling them no and shut down?.
rutherford is reported to have sought cash and rationed coal as a test of jehovah's will.
knorr reported on getting an unexpected windfall of cash when they sought to buy the towers hotel.. but from where i sit, jehovah seems to have become very ungenerous towards these would-be theocrats, in recent years.. they dumped subscriptions.. they cut literature.. they went to paperbacks.. they cut magazines, by my count, for the third time.. they laid off bethelites.. they sold off brooklyn buildings.. they sold off printing/binding equipment.. so, now their latest 'litmus test' of jehovah's will is to simply dump the magazines in one lump and tell people to only take what they need.

jws' proud of the wt's money
by rockmehardplace inhave you ever noticed that when someone mentions the property in ny that the organization has and the values of it, many jws get all excited over it.
first, they act like they are going to get a chunk of it.
second, they think all that money goes to preaching and building kingdom halls.

Its strange because if you point out all the wealth the WT has to a JW.
Theres a certain amount of denial. Then they point out how big the WT is.
The branch offices, Patterson etc
Then they complain about the wealth of the Catholic Church. -

Putting the 'probability argument' against abiogenesis in the grave once and for all
by bohm inamongst the many arguments for and against creation the probability arguments stands out.
the improbability of generating the necessary proteins by chanceor the genetic information to produce themto balloon beyond comprehension.
... the odds of getting even one functional protein of modest length (150 amino acids) by chance from a prebioitc soup is no better than 1 chance in 10164. meyer continues, another way to say that is the probability of finding a functional protein by chance alone is a trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion times smaller than the odds of finding a single specific particle among all the particles in the universe.. the evidence for the probability of origin of life arising from darwins warm little pond seems to have vanished beyond the realm of any possibilityregardless of any early earth scenario.. i really, really want to put it in the grave because i think its an embaressment to the theists and thinking humans in general; its right up there with 'noahs ark has been found' and 'humans have less chromosomes than monkeys', but for some reason people dont see through it.

Explain then, how inanimate elements became a thinking being.

Why is it that abuse is so prevalent among the religious?
by dgp ini'm not trying to sling mud at anyone, but, while i am aware that pedophiles are to be found in all walks of society, why would it be that they seem to be so many among the religious?
as a former catholic, i often heard people say that priests would abuse children because a) they couldn't have a woman themselves (an outright lie) or b) because the catholic church gave them an "honorable" way to stay single and be in the company of many men and children.
but then the jw's don't have such restrictions, and abuse still happens.

Maybe it just gets reported more.
After all its expected that the "religious" are supposed to be much better at keeping their "desires" under control.
After all how many of us have had that little smile on our faces, when some self-righteous JW gets caught out.
That brother who spoke from the platform and told us how we should behave otherwise we die at Armageddon.
Only for him to be caught having an affair or is a paedophile.Someone asked why the JW paedophile scandals have not generated as much publicity.
I think mainly because the Watchtower organisation compared to the Catholic Church are nobodies.
There is no publicity value in a JW brother, who is some janitor or window cleaner, being exposed as a child molester.
Compared to a Priest in a high profile church.
Where you can drag in Bishops, Cardinals and a Pope. When a JW is caught he is dropped like a hot potato by the WT organisation.
Who will deny having anything to do with him.
Disfellowship him so they can say he is not a JW.Unless you get some persistent journalist who will dig into the WT.
Writes a damning article or book, then the WT will carry on as usual. After all are they not "Jehovahs true religion"

Not much of a challenge is it.
Same old stuff aired again and again.
I was reading stuff like this 10 years ago when I left the JWs.
No weight , no substance to it.

Birthdays Okay -- if done by Fractions
by FatFreek 2005 ini have 2 sons who live close to each other.
thankfully, they are emotionally close despite the fact that the oldest never was baptized and therefore not bound by wt standards.. the youngest, the jw, had a birthday on the 1st of the month.
i wished him a happy one -- but, of course, only in my mind knowing that he would dismiss such a wish if he even talked with me on the phone.

This is because such celebrations focus too much attention on the individual
So how come its OK to celebrate Wedding Anniversaries?
Don't they focus attention on the individual, in that case two individuals.
Could never understand that.

by justmom inanswer..... all of them!.
they pride themselves on being "the truth" ( which belongs only to the christ.
they pride themselves on being part of a covenant that will destroy everyone else at armageddon and only they will "live forever" in paradise!.

Its quite clear in the verses quoted from John 6:31-58 that a person,
has got to partake of the bread and wine to gain everlasting life or a resurrection.I recall a while ago a JW saying that if they died now that they have a resurrection to look forward to.
I asked do they take the bread and wine then.
They said No as thats only for the "anointed".
I said they won't get resurrected then according to John 6:54
"He that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has EVERLASTING LIFE, and I shall resurrect him at the last day."Of course he said those verses only applied to the "anointed".
But I pointed out that the verses state "anyone" or as some translations have it "whoever", there no separate class of people.
By very definition of the verse it states , if you take the bread and wine you have everlasting life and/or be resurrected.
Therefore if you don't take the bread and wine you DON'T get everlasting life and/or resurrected.
Simples!
You could see that look on his face that they get when their mind is trying to comprehend something that is contary to what they have been told.

Another step towards artificial life: Evolution of molecules in laboratory
by bohm inhey!.
i just read this today, a professor gerald joyce has created small, very simple 'dead' molecules that are able to replicate themselves if placed amongst other dead molecules and (here it gets interesting) are able to accumulate mutations and become better at replicating themselves.
joyce estimate about 30 bits of information is passed along to each 'generation.

What is "artificial life" its either real or not.
"professor Gerald Joyce has created"
"created" ??"they are not alive - ie. they have no metabolism and no cell membranes"
well when he gets them to think and have a life of their own then we will take notice.
