  "And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him... The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Phillip... And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage."

  Notice the opening of v32 ?and John bare record? KJV other versions are ?then John gave his testimony? NIV; ?John testified? NASB ?John clinched his witness with this? The Message; ?John gave further evidence? Amplified Version.

  What we have in John is not the ?at the time, on the spot? account, but John is telling later on, he is testifying, of what he saw at Jesus baptism, to others.

  This testimony by John would have been after Jesus days in the wilderness. Because John would probably have not known were Jesus went after the baptism. He would have been telling others about what he saw.

  Then the next day after telling his followers about Jesus baptism (v35) he sees Jesus and if you like says ?Hey look there?s the guy I was telling you about?.

  That then leads into choosing the disciples and the wedding.

  It depends n what you call a "rich Witness" as has been stated it depend on the area you live in. In the borough I live it is very mixed ranging from those on benefits, unemployed etc, but go only a mile or two and you are in an area of wealth.

  In the congregations I attended members were mixed, low paided to well paided. But, you can bet that Elders and Ministerial Servants were from the well paided section. Through my years as a JW I have met JW's who were Doctors, solicitors, barristers, University lecturers, even millionaires. Nearly all of them Elders.

  It also comes into show with a two-tier system of dealing with "wrong-doing" in the congregation. The sons and daughters of the well-off section just being reproved for even committing fornication, yet a young brother unemployed, gets disfellowshipped for smoking.

  they are more jewish than gentile in every sense.

  they are more christianized jew than any other christian religion, imo.

  if jesus were to look for a religious home close to the first century religious home he lived in i believe the witnesses would both negatively and positively fit the bill.

  In what way?

  Maybe by the Pharisical way they behave.......which Jesus condemned by the way.

  Or by the fact they seem to more inclined to look to Hebrew scripture for support....rather than the love preached and worship of Christ in the NT.

  I don't think Jesus would touch them with a ten-foot pole.

  i lived thru the 1975 fiasco.

  many here did too.. on another board there was discussion about the way the congregations were before 1975. some thought that they were like small country churches in some ways.

  we did our own work on repairs at the kingdom hall, like a family.

  I was called on by two young JW's, looked about 20-25, on Wednesday afternoon.

  As this subject was on here I asked them about 1975.

  They looked at me blank "What about 1975?" they asked.

  I explained

  "Are you sure it was JW's that said that and not some other religion" one said.

  I went and got the information etc.

  Still got the blank looks. Asked them if Bro J, was still in the congregation. They said yes. When you see him next ask him about 1975. Especially the talk he gave in March 1974, telling us to do more as there was less than a year left to save people. If he denies ever giving the talk, tell him that S.M. still has it on tape.

  I'm wondering if they ever will.

  How does God communicate with us?

  in the past, god spoke to humans through angels, prophets, and jesus.

  today, there are no prophets, angels don't show up anymore, and jesus isn't there to speak to us.. we can talk to god through prayer, but how does god talk to us?.

  so, other than the bible which is pretty outdated, how can god communicate with humans?

  Can you demonstrate this "fact" by scientific observation, testing, and examination. Can you set up and experiment to show it occurs?

  When I was a JW I gave my lecturer in biology at university the "Creation book" by the Watchtower, he was agnostic.

  He returned it with the note that never in his career has he ever taught evolution as a "fact" that until it can be proven by scientific analysis, it will always remain a "theory".

  just watched this on the beeb which has come in for a lot of flak for showing it.. all the right-wing religious nuts came out complaining about it way before it was ever broadcast and without seeing it claiming that it was blasphemous and obscene (langauage).. he he he ... it was - and very good too !.

  the basic story is that it starts with a typical jerry springer show and several guests and he ends up going to hell and trying to sort out the arguments between god / jesus / satan and the virgin mary - who all mirror the disfunctional guests he had on earlier.. why is it that when religious drivel is on that we don't like (eg., songs of freekin' praise) we just turn over.

  when something is on that they don't like they try and stop everyone else watching it too?!

  Because the religious "drivel" doesn't contain hundreds of swear words or goes out their way to make fun of others religions. .

  You have just shown the same attitude to peoples faith, that you condemn them for, over your stupid program.

  Did you say the same thing when Sikhs got a play they considered blasphemous to their faith, stopped?

  Why is it that some ex-JW's seem to think that somehow it gives them the right to condemn and make fun of any other religions or anyone who has a faith. Just because they had their lives messed up by a MAN-MADE ORGANISATION, which they had the choice to be in or not. Just because a group of old men in Brooklyn messed your life up, don't think its the same for all other ex-JW's, many of us still have a strong belief in God. Even though I've been through hell with the JW's these past 4 years, after being one for 28 years. I left behind a man-made organisation, not God.

  Its a trend thats appearing more and more on this forum. "Lets make fun of those who still believe in God, Christ and the Bible. They must be really stupid to still believe in that stuff"

  You accuse those that demonstrated against the program of being "Bloody Nazis".

  It seems to me that you are showing the same attiude, who was it that wanted to get rid of certain religious groups?

  And by the way, I didn't agree with the demonstrations, mainly because the show had already been on in the theatre in London for two years. Why hadn't they demonstrated then? Did they think that like the Sikhs they could get this play stopped now. Then why didn't they do it when it was first on in the theatre?? Maybe they saw what the Sikhs got away with it and thought they could do the same? Too little, too late.
