WERE THERE ANY ELDER'S QUARRELS IN YOUR CONGREGATION?

I recently met a guy who had been a JW for 45 years, the last 20 as an Elder. He moved round the country and served in at least half a dozen congregations. In all those years he said he never knew of an Elders meeting that didn't end up in one almighty argument or even a fight. Usually between Elders vying for control of congregation. He said it makes him laugh when the ordinary JW oublisher thinks these Elders meetings are all calm and spiritual.

At one local congregation in this area the Elders met regularly, turned out that they were meeting for a drinking session. It was only found out when a fight developed and it ended up with Elders brawling in the street. The police were called. Word got to Bethel, they sent a couple of heavyweights up to sort things out. Removed all the Elders and appointed new ones. Because there was no one to run the congregation for about a month, its members went to nearby KH's like ours. We were told it was because they were having their KH redecorated!!!

You know you're NOT a JW anymore when...(add some)

you don't automatically wake up with a headache on sunday morning.... you no longer go around (while in field service) mentally deciding what home you'll "have" after armaggedon.... every item of clothing you buy as a woman is not first assessed for its modesty value.... you no longer worry about the 144,000 watching you have sex...:).

when on holiday you don't have to find the nearest kingdom hall asap (remember brother and sisters you are not on holiday from jehovah!!!).

being able to laugh about having a numb ass at the assemblies from sitting and the hilarity in having to tell people that you found the meeting "uplifting" when really you were fighting sleep the whole time.... you no longer have to avoid entire sections of music stores in order to make sure you don't pick up and "demonistic" vibes from backmasked cd's.

My wife and I left after 20+ years. We realised we were no longer JW's when instead of getting up on a Sunday mornig to go to the KH. We were making love.

Boy! How we've made up for those other missed Sunday mornings since.

The British NHS........ What is your view?

the nhs is a hot issue at present with the forthcoming uk elections pending in may, both main parties are trying to monopolise the issue of our health service.

it is a unique service where faults of course can be found (as in the current news story) but having worked and given my best for the last 15 years in it, i feel proud of it.

what experience do you/have you had of the nhs?

I personnally in all my years of dealing with NHS have not had any problems.

My son last year was diagnosed with severe aneamia, when Doctor got results of blood test. They had him in that night, even sent an ambulance. In for about 10 days, received treatment, no problems since.

Those have been my own experiences. But I do know of others who have had to wait months just to see someone. One who had his operation cancelled three times.

The NHS is a vast organisation, more money is spent on it than on defence. Every government pours more money into it.

Its a great big political football. No political party, would dare mess around to much with it.

i personally don't think so.

the reason why i say this is because we don't know where our conscious thoughts come from.

what i mean is,,that before a thought comes into our consciousness where was it and why did it come into the conscious?

personally i believe that 607 is not the right date, but here is another point of view.. does 607 or 587 or 609 or 586 or 1914 really matter?

yes but only after you have a pivotal date.

It does not matter to a Christian.

But sure matters to a JW. Their whole basis is that Christ took Kingdom power in 1914, then in 1919, chose the Watchtower organisation as his sole representatives on earth. Take that away from them and the whole thing comes tumbling down.

1corinthians 6:9 men who lie with men will not inherit gods kingdom.

so i guess its ok for women to lie with women cause we're not mentioned in there!

As has already been stated above the teachings on homosexuality in the Bible are clearly stated.

In the OT it was clear that if caught homosexuals were put to death. In the NT homosexuals are free to become Christians but they have to give up that lifestyle. If they didn't they would not inherit the Kingdom. Notice the decision whether or not they inherit the Kingdom is left up to the King not others. If a homosexual becomes a Christian and continues practising the lifestyle, then they have to take the chance on how Christ is going to judge them when the time comes. The NT clearly states that Homosexuals, murderers, adulterers, theives will not in herit the Kingdom. If homosexuals are somehow exempt from that scripture then we must also include murderers, adulterers and thieves as being exempt. Yet we know that murderers, adulterers, thieves WILL enter the Kingdom, but they have by then given in those practises and ask Christ into their lives and changed. We would expect such ones to have given up such practises, would we be happy if in our church we knew there was a person who went round murdering people, or one who continually stole from us, or was having affairs with our wives/husbands. So why should homosexual be exempt.

As the Christian faith teaches that to be a practising homosexual is wrong. Then its up to the homosexual to decided whether or not to become a Christian and give up that life style.

If the Christian faith was like some kind of club, society or union, which had rules for its members. Before joinig would you not check its rules out. To use a simple illustration, if you joined a golf club and ones of the rules was "no brown trousers allowed" or you will be thrown out the club. If you persistently turned up in brown trousers don't you thinnk that the club has the right to say that you are no longer a member.

Christ asks that when you follow Him you will have to give up certain things and change your life, thats the whole point of becoming a Christian. Your life changes, changes that will allow you to enter the Kingdom.

Armageddons coming.

i remember coming home from a meeting one evening in a spiritually heightened mood and seeing all these lights dancing around in the sky.

strangest thing i ever saw.

I can't believe that so many adults reacted in such a way to every "flash, bang, wallop" and incident that happened.

I became a JW in 1971, left in 2001.

I must have been in a pretty laid back congregation then, but I know they weren't. As I said I became a JW in March 1971, yet I hardly ever heard 1975 mentioned by others. In fact the first reference anyone made to me was a work colleague who said "JW's aren't they the ones who say the world will end in 1975" which was news to me. Asked an Elder, he said "Well we think 1975 marks 6,000 years since man was created. It may be a good time to for Jehovah to do something or it may not. We'll have to wait and see."

Not once with all the incidents and happenings etc, that occurred round the world, did I ever feel that Armageddon was coming.

I remember one night we had a terrific storm and standing and watching the forked lightning flash across the sky. My wife said jokingly "Maybe its Armageddon" I said "No its just a storm. When Armageddon comes we'll know it is, it'll make this look nothing."

All I experienced in my years as a JW in the congregation was a sort of "Armageddon, Oh yeah that thing" attitude. "Its coming but lets not worry about it, lets preach the good news first."

When 9/11 happened I had left the JW's and become a B/A Christian. I watched it live on TV. My thoughts were "Those poor people in the buildings and planes" and "What kind of people would do such a thing?" But I didn't think that Armageddon was going to happen. But I do believe that Christ will return. When? Only He knows that , I'm not speculating on it.

This Scholar (surely not!) person certainly shows his lack of REAL biblical knowledge, compared with Watchtower knowledge.

I read the posts of Alanf and City Fan filled with reference and detailed explainations and reasoning and logic. This "Scholar" offers nothing but a few lines, no references, weak argument, unreasoned thinking and he thinks he is the Einstein of the Bible. Plus the usual arrogant self-righteous attitude of a JW, which they seem to think is the answer to all questions.

He signs himself "BA MA Religious studies" what university gave him them?? I didn't know kindergarten gave out degrees! Or did he just fill in a coupon on the back of a cereal packet.

Strange that he relies on worldly qualifications to impress when the WT probably consider his BA MA as useless.

let me tell you my story of how i started attending meetings.

i started going to meetings at the age of sixteen?why?

because i was a broken youth at that time.

Similar thing happened to my nephew. Only it was the local Pentecostal church, that did the same thing.
