Correct in Britain for very £1 spent on petrol (gas) 80p goes in tax. So it you pay £4.50 for a gallon .... £3.60 is tax...90p for the petrol. Yet no one seems to complain that when they go out for a drink and pay on average £2.50 for a pint beer/lager (part of which is tax also), that they are paying £20 for a gallon of beer. So on average for every 2 pints of beer, you could have bought one gallon of petrol.

In line with everyone else. It has been reading posts by Scholar (how he had the gall to call himself that I don't know) and his like that helped me after nearly 30 years as a JW and former Elder. They made me realise how weak Watchtower argument is. Plus the arrogant, self-righteous attitude of such ones. The Watchtower club and its members have a wonderful habit of shooting themselves in the foot. They will say we teach this as "so and so" then you discover that they taught exactly the opposite a few years before hand, sometimes only months before.

Keep up the work Scholar and noe defd.

If you cannot trust the WORDS you cannot PROVE a doctrine by pointing to the words.

I take it then that this could be applied to most other writings as well.

Museums, libraries have manuscripts going back hundreds of years. They tell us what occured in certain year or what a certain person did etc. Very often being the only record of what happened or what someone did. Yet we have no trouble accepting them as being accurate. Should we not therefore based on the above. View such reports and records from the same viewpoint.

I always get the feeling that the Watchtowers attempts to prove that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607BC and its connection to 1914AD.

Is a bit like someone trying to prove that the Titanic never sank.

I have been visited over the past two years by various elders and circuit overseers. We have discussed my position on certain matters, and I was asked to write an explanation of my views regarding blood and the Faithful Slave, which I did. I never heard back from the Society, though some friendly local elders come by now and then to say hello. I assume, and I hope, they know I have not expressed disagreement with the Society for any other reason than that I am concerned, greatly, and that I tried to express that concern, not by anger (which some rightly and perhaps sometimes wrongly have done, or so it seems to me) but by simply telling people about what I knew since that's all I did when I wrote my defense of Jehovah's Witnesses, before. My efforts are an attempt to better things, not make things worse, and while I know they do not necessarily see it that way, they seemed to believe that I do. I say this having been in discussions with circuit overseers and local elders over very sensitive subjects, such as my prior posts to this board with respect to the Faithful Slave's position as one that has risen in some respects to idolatry, whether the friends now it or not (likely, they do not). One elder, who is actually a friend of mine, brought a post from this board, highlighted in key areas, and questioned me about it. I simply explained that I was concerned that the friends were becoming overly dependent, even in awe, of the Faithful Slave. I pointed to the "Slave's" own warnings about such tendencies, but I also noted that the Slave facilitates such dispositions. Again, whether they think so or not.

So, I am not a ministerial servant any longer, that's for sure. But I remain polite and on distantly friendly terms with most of my family, though my former Witness colleagues no longer actively maintain a relationship with me.

Does that help fill in the gaps?

Wasn't in my copy of the Daily Mail at all.

Must either have been in a later edition or in the London edition.
