the war started in aug whereas the wts claims the last days started on october 2 1914. this means that wwi started during the gentile times and as such can not be claimed to be an indication of the last days.. i asked my pioneer school conductor about this and he claimed that satan started wwi in august as a smokescreen to divert peoples attention from jesus rulership talking place shortly afterwards.
this is an unsubstantiated excuse.

But wasn't Russel's teaching at the time that 1914 marked the END of the last days. That Armageddon in 1914 was supposed to be the culmination of of them.
so thats what it feels like.. i am not df'ed or da'ed, ... i have just stopped going to meetings.
my wife is trying to be as active as she can.. so all morning i am out of my regular routine.
late getting out of bed and late about everything today.. so i leave the house, and before getting to the office, i decide to stop at the mall for a quick, maybe 15 min, walk.. as soon as i get inside, taking my coat off, here is the elder who did everything he could in his power to get me out...and lied...and added to gossip that ran me outta there.. he and his wife spot me .. and turn there heads away and continue on their walk, .. eyes fixed on some thing away from me.. so thats what it feels like.........now i know.
I'm DA'd and they know I take an active part in speaking against them.
The ones I run into I say "Hello XXX" and wait for their reaction. Which is usually a mix of panic and embarrassment. Especially if its somewhere crowded.
I've seen them try to dodge me in supermarkets, so I nip along an aisle and suddenly they find themselves right in front of me.
I cross the road to be on same side as them.
What upsets them more than anything is seeing you happy. Giving them a wave and a smile.

i have not been to the kh in a couple weeks and was just wondering.
I know they started last year with Feb 1st for the world report.
Any one know the reason why?
Seems strange that for decades they could do the world report for Jan 1st.
But now in this number crunching computer age, they need an extra month.

Is the fact that she was a JW that makes it news worthy?
If it had said she was a Catholic, or Pentecostal, or Baptist etc, on their way to church, would we have been bothered?
The fact that this girl was attacked in such a way should be the concern, not what religion she was.

she "arranged her schedule" (translation: bummed rides well in advance) to make sure she had a way to and from the hall.
I'm sure most of us have such experiences of the difference between what a brother/sister said on the platform and what we knew in reality.
I remember a Min.Servant and Pioneer and married, giving a talk on what we should watch on TV and what films are suitable. After the meeting I was talking to him and he was going on about this film he had watched. Something back of my mind niggled me. When got home checked the film. Yeah, it was on late at night and was described as being very violent, with sex and nudity. About a year after I had left this brother was disfellowshipped. It seems that on his window cleaning round he was doing more than just cleaning windows for a couple of the women who were his customers.
We also had an Elder, a walking book of WT rules. Kind of guy who if a brothers hair was touching hs shirt collar would give a lecture on long hair, or if a sisters skirt was half and inch above the knee she was on the verge of prostitution. Always used his family for demonstrations or items on platform. All sitting there correctly dressed. How they did family Watchtower etc, field service, etc etc.
Yet those of us in the know, knew his two daughters had probably had sex with most young brothers in the KH. They were both pregnant when they got married, and yes allowed to marry in KH. The oldest son was using cannabis, got caught in bed with his female cousin, he later ran off and married a lap dancer, came back, but now gone. Other son seemed an angel at the KH, but in school was a foul-mouthed brat. Later heard through grapevine, that he had been caught in bed with another JW brother. The mother through all this was knocking the Prozac back and hitting the bottle.
Yet through all this Brother Elder would get up on the platform and tell us how his family did this or that in "Jehovahs service". He was never pulled up on what his family did and continued to be an Elder until about 6 months ago when he resigned. Why? Because he was caught smoking!!
I know of so many brothers who put on their JW suit and briefcase, or sisters in their nice sensible dresses. Where the epitome of WT correctness. But when they took them off and away from their brothers and sisters....stand back.
i've been reading some essays concerning disagreement online that got me thinking - i won't even attempt to do them justice but to share some ideas that struck home to me.
we spend most of the time here sharing ideas and thoughts often in response to other posts and as arguements to invalidate or re-colour what someone else said.
there is an implicit drive behind each thread to somehow approximate a 'truth' from the many different viewpoints - almost like a collective conscience ('the forum') weighing and then selecting or rejecting the mood of the thread and as we share in the posts we add just a little weight and influence to its direction.
