Demoted from elder to MS, anybody ever heard of this?
by Naoscillator inso a friend in a nearby hall told me their co came through, and in a hellish week of long meetings and inquisition overhauled the boe.
only one remains as elder, three were re-appointed as ms, and one, the cobe was deleted entirely.. two new elders were brought in as new secretary and cobe / watchtower conductor, respectively, and introduced to the congregation from the platform on sunday immediately following his second talk.
he reminded everybody of the authority he has and then named the new appointees.

@_Morpheus This is what I always thought too because I've seen it in print. It's weird, weird, weird. The USA branch might just need to hear about it. -

@Finkelstein I agree. I know some of these men to be attentive shepherds, something else must have been THE deciding factor. Lack of organization did cause a few snafus that were getting that congregation a reputation as a bit of a sideshow. Sorry to hear that they are "using" your father the way they are at his age. Hopefully they consider his situation and it doesn't equate to much of an actual workload.

@Finkelstein, what my source heard from the CO was that generally, the flock was not being taken care of and that nobody on the body was really doing their job. It's likely he heard many complaints straight from the publishers about lack of shepherding, disorganization, etc. -

@_Morpheus, indeed it's the USA, a Spanish congregation. I know that two of the former elders are pretty advanced in age and may just be relieved, happy to serve as MS or in whatever capacity.
@Just Kidding, the lack of qualified men is a factor and has been for some time in that congregation.

So a friend in a nearby hall told me their CO came through, and in a hellish week of long meetings and inquisition overhauled the BOE. Only one remains as elder, three were re-appointed as MS, and one, the COBE was deleted entirely.
Two new elders were brought in as new secretary and COBE / watchtower conductor, respectively, and introduced to the congregation from the platform on SUNDAY immediately following his second talk. He reminded everybody of the AUTHORITY he has and then named the new appointees. The sitting COBE had just conducted his last watchtower study and got to sit there and see his replacement welcomed. The CO then told everyone to be there on Wednesday for announcement of MORE CHANGES. My friend says it was the quietest his (large) congregation has ever been. Reportedly all elders disappeared into another long meeting shortly after concluding prayer.
This CO has a reputation that precedes him. A take no prisoners, hatchet-wielding badass who doesn't care whose feelings he steps on. In other words, the ideal WT company man.
None of the JW's I've discussed this with have ever heard of anything like it or have much positive to say about this CO. We've all heard of entire bodies being deleted, elders being DF'd, etc. but the combination of events has left many confused and ambivalent. Especially the public nature of it.
Is the "demotion" from elder to MS a new thing? What's up with letting the COBE conduct and minutes later announcing his replacement to a packed hall?

Was It Designed? Rabies Purposeful Mode of Transmission.
by Island Man inwas it designed?.
rabies' purposeful mode of transmissionrabies is caused by a number of lyssaviruses that attack the cells of the nervous system disrupting their normal function.
symptoms include painful spasms in the muscles of the throat and larynx of patients, accompanied by a strong aversion to drinking liquids - hydrophobia.

This is funny, I was just pondering this morning about what possible place a virus has in an arrangement set up by a loving creator. -

WT Society Makes Light of Child Abuse Crimes by Portraying them as Cartoons
by flipper ini commented on this on another thread- but i believe this has enough importance to create a thread about this situation in and of itself.
at the current district convention as you know the wt society released a " sophie & caleb " video allegedly warning parents about the dangers of child abuse.
they don't really use the words " child abuse " in the video - but just say if " someone tries to touch you in a manner you aren't comfortable with " and portray it as a cartoon !

I think the monster in the video is supposed to actually be funny. How that helps kids to appreciate the real danger from real people is beyond me. It's great entertainment for them when Caleb acts like a little super hero and he and his family of sidekicks make the monster disappear. As others have pointed out, these techniques may work but usually don't. This shouldn't have been treated like just another somewhat humorous Caleb video.
My pioneer wife was watching the broadcast and nodded in agreement with much of AM3s comments. But when the cartoon was nearly over she said "they need to show an adult. In a suit." Yup.

BOC, the conscience line got to me too. How it even occurred to them to appeal to kid's CONSCIENCE, I'll never understand. Common sense or intuition are much better alternatives, these are things a child or adult can use to judge a situation not necessarily avoid guilt. Bringing one's one morality and integrity into it by invoking the conscience adds a weight that a child does NOT need to bear in case he or she is unsuccessful in fending off an attack. Just. Ridiculous. -

Anthony Morris III: "...we cannot control everything that an individual might say..."
by cappytan ini noticed that anthony morris iii just said on the broadcast: "while we cannot control everything that an individual might say, it is clear that over the decades protecting children from abuse is a top priority for this organization.".
that, in my opinion, is a direct response to the richard ashe "spiritual protection not physical protection" deposition.. here's a video putting the two statements side by side.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgevpuyn7gy.

"Evidently" confirmation bias can make you believe whatever you want to, Nitty-Gritty.
In my direct observation and experience, elders have had to go rogue from what the legal and service department were telling them in order to keep pedophiles from grooming children right inside the KH.
Really. Legal said "keep watching him and warn the parents." The parents are idiots who let this guy hug and kiss their kids, constantly, during the meeting. As if after doing that all of our hands would be tied until there's an accusation. I gained a lot of respect for the COBE when he lost patience with this and threatened the man so strongly he was "stumbled" and didn't come to a meeting for 6 months. Now he's at 1 of 3 meetings and minds his p's and q's.
In this case, wishful thinking and a waiting attitude didn't get things done. Acting according to one's conscience did.

To Blue Dot or Not to Blue Dot. That is the question ....
by Oubliette inso i've been noticing recently that some khs in the area where i live (socal) are putting up the jw.org little blue dot, but others are not.
i would think this would be a mandatory directive from hq.
does anyone here have any intel on the matter?.

Actually they finally managed to get their hands on it as of May 13, 2015.

Watchtower withdrew their petition to cancel JW Player's trademark because the two parties had entered negotiations to settle, and apparently this is the result. Who knows how much they paid out. Look for a little "R" to appear in place of the "TM" on the JW.ORG logo just like it does next to Watchtower and Awake on the inside covers of the magazines.
