When hunger is extinguished, humans looked for art - we can live without art (and religion) but we can't live without meeting our nutritional requirements.
Therefore eating and drinking must be more important than either art or religion.
it has been the history of mankind that they proceed from the crude to the subtle in all spheres of life: they seek the subtle amidst the crude, and in the subtle, they seek the subtlest.
when hunger is extinguished, humans looked for art.
ancient humans appreciated the harmony of music; they also liked to dance in joy.

) which person/source first made you reconsider your position on creationism?.
) how long a period of time did it take to fully convince you?.
) what books and videos did you read and watch?.
1. I was 30.
2. Richard Dawkins.
3. I was fully convinced in about a week.
4.The book that really did it for me was The Blind Watchmaker. I started reading it critically to see if Dawkins would persuade me. He consistently pointed out that creationists misrepresented the process driving evolution, and had reasonable answers to their criticisms. In the end, I read about 2/3 of it.
5. I know biology somewhat better than before as I'm a Biology student and in my final year, and I'm doing well in my degree. But, TBH, I'm just a beginner.
i've been thinking and here's what i've come up with.
correct me if i'm wrong, but in the bible does it not state that the word would have to be preached throughout the entire inhabited earth for a witness to all people and then the end would come?.
with the world being as vast as it is today, it would be practically impossible for the witnesses to speak to everyone in the world.
You mean, it will never work for YOU. It always works for MOI - complete bollocks and pretentious bullshit of the highest order.
I always value politeness and tact ...

Why Armageddon Now? - with the WTS, it's always 'Armageddon now'. The Russellites thought the big A would come in 1914/15, Rutherford thought it would come in 1925, Franz thought it would come in 1975, and the current overlords think it will come 'very soon'.
If there was no 'Armageddon' in the scriptures, there would be no WTS.
my ex husband and father of my daughter was never baptized but is still a believer in the wt.. a couple years ago we were talking about evolution ( which he does not believe in ) i brought up the subject of the neanderthals and how we all have their dna except africans ( the ones that never left africa ).
he said neanderthals are apes and not humans and jw's do not teach that they are humans.
i said i believe they do.. in the life- how did it get here book, under the sub heading " the human family "is says " neanderthal man....... was undoubtedly human.. his response was " they are just talking about what other people believe " ahhhhh .
Homo Erectus, an ancestor to the Governing Body? - possibly the picture on the left is. I can now see where Brother Lett gets his facial expressions from.

Here's a Neanderthal skeleton:
It obviously can't be 'just an ape', it's a type of human. If the WTS admits this, then the belief that humans are only ~6,000 years old becomes even sillier than it already is. According to the book Evolution: The Human Story by Dr Alice Roberts, H. neanderthalensis lived between 350,000 and 28,000 years ago.
Those pesky evolutionists with their satanic facts!
lets see what we can find on youtube or elsewhere that tickles your funny bone .

Great idea for a thread, Finkelstein. For anybody who likes Extras, here's the best of Darren Lamb.
in light of the continuing disgusting acts by isis... just remember.

I agree with you, freemindfade, there are lots of bad ideas in religions, whether it's ISIS beheading a street magician, the OT jews stoning some poor sod for collecting firewood on the Sabbath, or JW parents refusing a blood transfusion and looking on as their child dies a painful death.
OTOH, I suppose religious beliefs often help the believer through the ups and downs of life and provide a moral framework. As long as religious people act within the law and don't harm themselves or others, religious belief should be tolerated, IMO.
Let's face it, religion probably won't go away so it must be tamed.

Jesus and the NT were OK with slavery, genocide, murder and rape. Which negative forces are you thinking they were against? - sex before marriage.
