Yeah, I love when families go up together for a part and gloat about how spiritual they are and how their family is so close to perfect...but in reality their children are drug addicts, sex fiends, and junior hitlers.

Lying Experiences at Assemblies.
by ninecharger inat assemblies shining examples are trundled out to reel off their "encouraging" stories.
over the years there were many examples where i knew the people concerned, and wanted to vomit because they were telling a load of lies or at best half truth.
(why are we not surprised?

The best concerts that I have been to are
Tori Amos - when she toured with Alanis Morisette. My brother and I were given front row seats by someone who claimed she was "with the band" It was great. I've seen her live many other times too, but it's always better up close.
Reel Big Fish at the State Theatre. It was a smaller venue and Reel Big Fish is such a happy upbeat type of environment. They know how to work a crowd without moshing and violence. In fact if you mosh they will stop playing. Everyone goes and dances.
Orgy was another good concert with Placebo opening back in 1999.
Concerts I wish I would have been to...well I wish I had been old enough to go to see the Cure, the Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, Skinny Puppy or New Order in concert.
The worse concert I've ever been to was Dope, Static-X, and Powerman5000. The whole venue was a giant mosh bit and my brother and I ended up leaving in the middle of Static X bloodied and dirty. The others we were with who wanted to go to the concert stayed behind. It was awful. The first band started off by cussing the police. It was riot atmosphere.

As an elder or MS, how did you NOT see it, or did you just fake it ???
by run dont walk ini find it fascinating, i never had a position in the congregation, .
how does an elder, who sees all the flipflops in doctrine, the special body of elders letters and publications, and jc, and elders meetings, not see that the watchtower is full of ----, .
did judical commitees, and elders meetings take a toll on you ???

At the congregation I went to it was all about the power. The Elders there felt a sick need to control the congregation and look down their noses at the people who weren't as wealthy as them. It's funny because at my old Hall all of the elders were wealthy. They weren't wealthy by making money off of the religion. They made thier money in other ways. For example one of them was a stock broker and embezzled a lot of peoples money. He is out of jail and has a position in the hall. All the while he and the rest of his family - all the men being elders harshly pass judgement on everyone else while their children are sneaking out of the house, doing drugs, having sex, etc and don't even get a slap on the wrist. It's really sad.
My friend was disfellowshipped for about a year and she came back. They made her study with the above mentioned Elder's wife who talked down to her like she was an insignifgant peon. Many times she would be lecturing my friend while her husband was passed out drunk in the living room, their son was having sex with his girlfriend and the daughter was out with the neighbors. And that's they way most of the Elders were.
Most of the ministerial servants were teenage and twenty something boys leading double lives which everyone knew about, and yet nothing was done.
And when I left to go to a new hall...which ultimately led to me just giving up, I asked the elders I was meeting with to take an interest in my brothers or they were going to lose them. They never did. One brother still goes because he lives at home with mom and she makes him. He hates it. The other brother had enough when he was 16 and told my mom he was gay, at which point she through him out of the house. He then turned to drugs and a slew of bad relationships with older men. He's doing ok, but it was bad for a while. The one elder at the congregation who wasn't corrupt asked three different people to study with my brother that still lives at home. None of them would do it. There's nothing wrong with my brother...they just didn't want to.
any insight?

The Ring was really scary at the theatre. I unplugged all of the TVs that night before I could sleep. Later, we rented it, and it wasn't so good on DVD.
Audition I loved. The subtitles were a little goofy, but it was so creepy! I love neo-noire and Japanese films.
Another good movie that isn't really a horror movie but it's not really a comedy either is "May". It's one of the best I've seen in a while.
House of 1000 Corpses was just disgusting but it was interesting to see Rob Zombies spin on it.
Someone mentioned their favorite movie was Hellraiser...I've seen it, and Pinhead is awesome, but should you really be watching that? I'm a little surprised to see so many people into scary movies. The Elders at my old congregation forbid us to even watch Casper...
