i have been out of the jw organization for some 22 years now and i sometimes get a reminding jolt out the hoops that some will jump through to make their religion make sense to them.
the first line in this post is what a jw on the street here in salinas told me on saturday when trying to justify the society's history of false prophecies.

"Jehovah's spirit is being blocked in the congregation"
by stuckinarut2 inso, how many times have we heard this expression (or a variation of it):.
"jehovah's spirit seems to be blocked here in the congregation...perhaps he is bringing something to light...etc".
it seems that the org often uses this expression, and links it with the "fact" that god wont bless a cong as much,(or at all) if there is "stuff" or "sins" being carried out.. so, why is it then that the cong i am in is experiencing its best years of activity in all aspects?

My family has known I'm an apostate
by cognac ini found out that my husband has not only gone to the elders, but has been going to members of my family about me over a period of a few years.
this piece of news is just so depressing.
i've been wondering how my family knew i didn't go and thats why so many of them have becoming more and more distant.

It is possible he has been gathering sympathy and percieved support for a long time in preparation for an eventual split. If he has his eye on someone else, he will need to demonize you to others and himself to justify a divorce for "spiritual endangerment" and hope you "free him" soon after, so he can re-marry asap.

Anthony Morris III, a senior member of the Church’s leadership, said: “For these young fellas, cause the older ones aren’t doing much of it thankfully, is the metrosexual look we’ve addressed that in the past.
“What’s happened now is that it’s really caught on more – the tight suit jacket and the tight pants. Better known as tight pants. They are tight all the way down to the ankles. It’s not appropriate. It’s not sound of mind.”
“The homosexuals that are designing these clothes – they’d like you in tight pants.”
He also warned women against spanx, saying: “Some of our sisters, what it is are these spanx… these skin tight stuff they wear, when they exercise, they leave their home and they’re jogging in this stuff.
“Look at the verse. Is that appropriate to wear skin tight spanx or whatever they call it?
“It’s not modest and it’s certainly not sound of mind. It’s really not appropriate.
“There’s really nothing else to say about it. Now you want to be in your home or your room and wear that stuff that’s your business.
“But don’t go out like that and say you worship the true God.”

Skirts and trousers (pants if you're in the US)
by Chariklo injust what is it that the watchtower thinks is so much more modest and respectful to jehovah about wearing a skirt instead of trousers?
that is, unless you live in a culture that has trousers as the norm for women, as in india.. something today brought this to my mind.
i can't even remember what it was, but it led to thinking again about this.
