I was sitting in my JW Grandparents living room attempting to watch that historic event, all the while Grandma was upset and saying "he is going to die any minute! The bible says "there will be signs in the heavens and blood on the moon!!!" She seemed sad they didn't die.

50 Years since the first moon landing
by eyeslice2 inin july of 1969, i was 16 years old and was pretty excited by the prospect that the us would shortly land a man on the moon.
however, i remember, vividly and older brother at the time confidently stating that man would never walk on the moon, quoting psalms 115 - "as for the heavens, they belong to jehovah.
but the earth he has given to the sons of man.

This subject has been brought up before. The Governing Body and Watchtower have repeatedly encouraged JWs to show loyalty to the organization to "keep the Congregation clean" by reporting wrongdoing to the elders.
I know directly of two cases. Two JWs working in the records department of our local hospital "outed" 3rd Gens 1st husband to the local elders when he and his mistress sought medical treatment together for stds. -She was happy to find out, and both sisters kept their jobs. Hubby #1 got disfellowshiped and she got a divorce.
The 2cd was a case of a JW working in medical records of a famous SF Bay area teaching hospital who turned in a young JW girl for an abortion. She was outed to my body of elders and disfellowshiped.
I heard many other cases of inside information and records being shared by JWs with inside information at many types of offices when I worked at Bethel.
Has anyone heard of more recent cases of "leakers"?
(The USA regulation regarding medical records is: HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) is United States legislation that provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information.)

Beards
by HiddenPimo inso i started growing a beard 2 weeks ago and i am making some nice progress.
it has been noticed by many in my workplace and they give me great compliments.
my skin would get all bumpy from the constant shaving and i am so glad to be done with that form of cult control.. last year (i was pimo then) i worked in the video department at the regional convention.

Grew a beard after getting out of the Borg. Much more comfortable and protects some pre-cancer areas from lots of driving in the sun.
When I served at Bethel in the 70s my mustache and sideburns drove some brothers nuts. GB Dan Sidlick was my table head on weekends and lived down the hall, he reminded me frequently that I couldn't be a tour guide with my mustache..I laughed and said "that's OK I am too busy to take off to give tours"..I said "I was thinking of getting closer to the bible and not shear my locks and beard anyway" with a grin. His wife snorted her coffee.

I lurked on this group years ago while I was still an Elder having serious doubts. Third Gen found my 2 Ray Franz books while I was at work and tossed them in the garbage!! LOL, She was furious.
Well a PIMO JW, a friend from high school, called me one evening and said: "did you hear about the Menlo Park CA hall scandal?" "No" He gave me a quick rundown and I googled it and a lot of threads were on this group. 3rd Gen read about it as well. I knew many of the players and the fact that the "Society's Elder" had an affinity for hookers, lies, and scams, and the DF'd Elders were very sincere humble true believers really made things clear. 3rd Gen finally read Ray Franzes 2 books that month online here and was OUT.
This group is a goldmine of information...including OLD threads..and important group therapy for those leaving. It is a lot of work to maintain and my thanks go out to Simon and those who continue to post and interact.
I prefer to just chat on the phone from time to time and on Facebook with some I have met here or in person at aposta fests, however, this group is a valuable resource. Keep up the good work everyone!!!!

The Hell of the POMI!
by The Bethelite ini called a jehovah's witness friend of mine a couple weeks ago, yes i still consider him a friend though he would not say the same of me.
i've known him for almost 40 years.
our families went on many vacations together including my only trip back to bethel in 1996. this trip was made with 40 other "brothers and sisters.

A P.O. in an old hall gave the most interesting parts after getting hammered on Jack Daniels. His breath could knock you over. Could never get a few elders, and the Bethel desk to agree to do anything about him until his physical abuse of his wife and kids became public.
Not at all unusual.
An old high school JW buddy is Df'd for drunkenness and refuses to "speak" to me (we PM) because he is still "mentally in"- but physically out. A two-strike prisoner. Sad.

Just when I thought the cult's grip was loosening on my family. .
by nicolaou inmy never a jw dad tol me that my kid brother (32) is an elder.
it bothered me, i genuinely thought he was just going through the motions for the sake of his wife and our mum.. interestingly, dad was annoyed that he doesn't see so much of my brother lately and that my mum (uber jw) always makes excuses for him.. what a surprise.

Becoming an Elder is a lot like working at Bethel. There is a lot of "do as we say, not as we do." It is a huge awakening to anyone who actually wants to practice Christianity. Going through the locked congregation files and reading the letters from Bethel create as much doubt as reading Ray Franzes two books. It became obvious the "rot" started at the top.
3rd Gen forgot to add I sent the original police reports and interviews from SIX child victims to the local C.O. AND NYC Bethel (explicit and gross). Multiple newspaper clippings attached. (Got off on technicalities, investigation tainted by local elders, and key witness dead).
Five years later (after $$ large donations) the multiple child molester was an Elder giving Northern California district convention parts in Sacramento!

Depending on your location, I would mention you might have to turn HER (or the Elders) into the District Attorney's "Elder Abuse Unit" for intentional emotional abuse of a senior. Might give her pause, and save dear old dad from some unneeded anxiety. In California, the following is current law. Say it with conviction and most people will think twice.
· "Psychological Abuse which includes but is not limited to verbal abuse, harassment, or being confined to a room for extended periods of time, etc. For further definition look at California Welfare and Institution Code Section 15610.53
· Isolation Abuse which includes but is not limited to an individual prevents another (or him or herself) from having contact with other by refusing calls, mail or visitors. For further definition look at California Welfare and Institution Code Section 15610.43
· Abandonment which includes but is not limited to an individual who willfully forsakes an elder. For further definition look at California Welfare and Institution Code Section 15610.05
· As discussed below, the California Penal Code Section 368 makes certain acts against an elder punishable by prison terms if convicted in a criminal court.
· Federal Law relating to elder abuse can be found in The Older Americans Act, Title I, Section 102, The Older Americans Act, Title III, Section 307, and The Older Americans Act, Title VII, Section 721.
It is in the California Penal Code that the “teeth” of the elder abuse laws are found. Put simply, one can go to jail if one abuses an elderly or dependent person in California.
Penal Code 368.
(b) (1) Any person who, under circumstances or conditions likely to produce great bodily harm or death, willfully causes or permits any elder or dependent adult, with knowledge that he or she is an elder or a dependent adult, to suffer, or inflicts thereon unjustifiable physical pain or ......mental suffering,........ or having the care or custody of any elder or dependent adult, willfully causes or permits the person or health of the elder or dependent adult to be injured, or willfully causes or permits the elder or dependent adult to be placed in a situation in which his or her person or health is endangered, is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by a fine not to exceed six thousand dollars ($6,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment, or by imprisonment in the state prison for two, three, or four years"
Just stand up to these S.O.B.s
