  Opening doors, putting your foot in the door and other dangerous activities

  i was listening to the news and there is this big brouhaha about someone shooting someone through their front door.

  apparently the person tried to open the door of an elderly person, scaring the homeowner and they shot a gun injuring the person.

  obvious castle doctrine case.. which made me remember a rather overzealous old pioneer that used the same tactics when he knew the homeowners were home but didn’t want to come to the door, he would start opening the storm doors and try to see if the door was unlocked so he could yell inside.

  In the USA the law changes from state to state and enforcement from county to county. Many "Red" states have "Stand your ground laws" which apply even outside your home. "Castle" doctrine is your residence or recreational vehicle "home". In California, they have to come through the door (threshold). Some California DAs push to have the homeowner withdraw further inside before using violence.

  However, if the homeowner has been a crime victim, or has been watching a steady stream of crime TV and have a gun, they are thinking about RIGHT NOW, not what the local District Attorney MIGHT think....add in some dementia or a cocktail...and it could be "deep sleep time" for an unexpected visitor.

  After these recent unexpected visitor shootings and the mass Kingdom Hall shooting in Germany, I would hope most JWs would re-think door-to-door protocols. Folks an imaginary angel will not protect you.

  The announcement about Tony was made on 2/23/23? So I wonder for how long the GB knew he was going? How much time did legal and the desk have to prepare?

  Watchtower could have rented a place....but with lots of experienced free labor why do that? Why not buy a decent but older place and remodel it? A number of single-family brownstones had been purchased or inherited in Brooklyn Heights over the years and converted into multi-family "flats" for Bethelites and visiting professionals (dentists, etc.).

  For fun, I did a search for completed real-estate sales between February and April for Lumberton and places within 5 miles. Well-priced properties due for remodeling that could provide housing for at least two couples or traveling headquarter staff (Lumberton is on the main highway, halfway between New York and Florida).

  One large old 50s home with a big pool attracted my attention. Why? Because someone had made the unusual demand to have the old Multiple listing service AND Google remove inside and street photos of the property...unusual... unless you are paranoid... or in witness protection...or work for the Defense dept. :) However, this is all conjecture. I would buy this myself for only the "reported" price of 200k!!! 4 bed, 3 bath, 2932 sq ft. on 4 acres with a huge pool. 204 W 22nd St, Lumberton, NC 28358 ??? Only time will tell. 100% conjecture.

  of course this has been hashed and re-hashed as all of you know the feb. 15th wt is re-directing jw's to read the title of rutherford's talk as " millions now living may never die.

  " however in reading crisis of conscience a second time - i found it interesting to see what ray franz said about this quote.. remember he wrote this book in 1983 , so keep it in mind when reading his quotes about this " millions " quote.

  Young "Elders"

  ever since the annual meeting last october and the letter to bodies of elders stating that "exceptional young men perhaps in their early 20's could qualify for appointment as elders.." it even states this in the updated elders manual!

  have any of you pimo's, pimq's, or those on here with family/friends still in hear of any young men being appointed as elders yet?

  i am talking 21, 22, 23, 24 etc.

  Joined an online meeting incognito

  got a link for a zoom meeting and thought id share my experience about the mid-week meeting.. guessing about 100 - 120 in cong.. 50 on zoom, only 8 with cameras on - all elderly.

  watching from a detached point of view it's so obvious at how it is nothing but a glorified sales meeting, all designed to promote the org.

  inspirational videos about how everyone can/ should do more to help with projects, in particular how to look after the kingdom hall, complete with bar charts showing levels of achievement to aspire to.. interestingly, tonights book study is about alcohol..

  I had a Pimo friend call me during his meeting...lol. He was on a Zoom meeting...camera and mike was off. He told me he was enjoying a cocktail, and throwing a ball for the dog while talking to me and the meeting droning on in the background.

  So much for accurate meeting attendance numbers. :)

  Ex Bethelitepima Sorry, but they are not close friends of Tony, and not my friends. Distant out-of-state family of my "inactive" JW friend.

  I would bet Tony and they are milking their "sick" story and keeping a very low profile with online meetings...pretend or real. Tony strikes me as a proud pompous person who would be quite humiliated right now. Probably in his easy chair today nursing his scotch and possibly teasing a grandchild.

  I noticed new material on the "Official" JW site yesterday pertaining to avoiding over drinking......

  ( Over the years I have seen a number of ex-Bethelites and ex-Gilead washouts re-create themselves after being asked to leave as: "being re-assigned" for special duty. lol. :) )
