No angelic protection for 20+ Jehovah's Witnesses on way to Convention. All dead.....
by Balaamsass infrom nigerian newspaper via google alert a few minutes ago;.
entire family, 20 others die in fatal accidenttragedy struck weekend in akwa ibom state as a man, his wife and all their children, as well as more than 20 others, all members of the jehovahs witness church, perished in a fatal road accident which occurred, friday, along the utu etim ekpo road in etim ekpo local government area of the state.. forty other members of the church sustained varying degrees of injuries following in the crash which occurred on their way to the jehovahs witness annual convention ground in ikot ekpene local government area of the state.. thisdays gathered that more than 70 members of the church had hired a lorry to convey them from ukanafun local government area to ikot ekpene for the annual district convention which began on friday and billed to end today (sunday) but the journey ended half way with many members of the church dying on the road in the accident.. eyewitnesses alleged that the driver of the lorry conveying the church members to the venue of the convention lost control of the vehicle when he got to utu etim ekpo, the junction opposite the local government secretariat, and hit the stone used to construct the roundabout, thus resulting in the lorry somersaulting, leaving many of its passengers and others wounded.. the corpses and those injured in the accident were said to have been taken to neighbouring hospitals and mortuaries.. one of the eyewitnesses, mr. friday john, said the people who died may have been more than what was seen because a whole family including parents and their children were all trapped in the accident.. we were all here discussing when suddenly the lorry appeared and was looking like the driver had lost control of it.
then the lorry drove straight and hit the stone and somersaulted into the gutter.. many people died, more than 18. in fact, we couldnt count the number because there were many corpses, including husband, wife and children and they were all taken to the mortuary in various hospitals near etim ekpo here, john explained.. in another narration, a secondary school teacher in eka uruk eshiet etim ekpo, mr. ndipmo nkanta, said the lorry boarded by the deceased and the injured passengers was not meant for passengers but goods only.. he blamed the accident on poverty , arguing that if there was a better alternative, such casualties wouldnt have been recorded, especially as they were going to worship god.. the public relations officer of the federal road safety corps, frsc, in the state, mr. godsgift uwen, blamed the incident on over-speeding and overloading by the driver of the lorry.. he said the lorry was not supposed to carry any passenger as it was a meant for goods only but the driver stubbornly used it as a passengers vehicle, which led to the sad incident.. he advised against rush and drunken driving, especially in the yuletide, noting that these are some of the major causes of accidents on the roads.. culled from thisday".

EXPLANATORY JOURNALISM Ebola: Focus on One Family
By Laurie Garrett
Kikwit, Zaire -- "The international team investigating the epidemic of Ebola in Zaire has discovered a family that suffered a devastating loss to the disease in December: Seven of 12 family members died, all within a period of roughly two weeks around Christmas. The family, according to scientists here working with the World Health Organization, are Jehovah's Witnesses. As such, they do not believe in consuming meat that is perfused with blood. Here, that translates into draining the blood from an animal while it is still alive. Investigations are ongoing, but the scientists speculate that members of the family may have become exposed while preparing a meal of whatever animal actually carries the Ebola virus. Scientists will now scour the areas of Kikwit from which the family's meat supply reportedly came in search of the until now mysterious source of the deadly hemorrhagic virus. Another puzzle researchers will now focus upon concerns transmissions outside the family. So far, it seems the Jehovah's Witnesses group had few outside contacts, and that their Ebola episode was a dead end, not a contributor to the overall epidemic. But the search is on for connections between that family disaster and Kikwit's larger crisis. Yesterday the epidemic reached a grim milestone, with more than 100 deaths having been reported since its onset. The World Health Organization said that another four people died of Ebola in the Kikwit area, the epicenter of the epidemic, bringing the death toll to 101. They said another 36 people were infected. A planeload of face masks, gloves and other protective clothing was rushed here. Meanwhile, 250 miles away in the capital of Kinshasa, about 250 trucks loaded with produce rolled into city markets after the lifting of a 10-day quarantine on the region surrounding Kikwit. The government ended the blockade of the entire Bandundu region Saturday after admitting that the quarantine was impossible to enforce."
This article was from a previous post on an Ebola outbreak in the 90s. I am certain well meaning JWs will attend the convention regardless of "worldly government restrictions" in order to be "Blessed" by Holy Spirit". And no doubt bring tainted fruits and vegetables along with them as instructed by the Governing Body. Could be ground ZERO for a WORLDWIDE EBOLA OUTBREAK...ARMAGEDON actually brought on by a religious cult...a self fulfulling prophecy.

A great thread. My Mother and Uncles (one was a 1930s Bethelite) never spoke a kind word about Rutherford.

Background [edit]
Rutherford standing on outside stairs at Beth Sarim shortly after its construction
In 1918, Watch Tower publications began predicting, under the direction of Rutherford, that Old Testament patriarchs or "princes" would be resurrected back to earthly life in 1925. It was taught that these "princes" would become earth's new leaders and that their resurrection would be a prelude to the inauguration of a new earthly society and the abolition of death. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] (It had previously been taught that these individuals were to be raised shortly after 1914. [8] [9] ) These "princes" would use Jerusalem as their capital, with some of the "princes" being located in other "principal parts of the earth." [10] Despite the failure of this prediction, Rutherford continued to preach their imminent return. [11]
J.F. Rutherford in Beth Sarim
During this time, Rutherford spent winters in San Diego, California, for health reasons, [12] and "in time, a direct contribution was made for the purpose of constructing a house in San Diego for brother Rutherford's use." [13] The property was acquired in October 1929 by Robert J Marten and was given to Rutherford in December for the nominal fee of $10 (current equivalent $137). The house was built in that year. [14] Rutherford named the property Beth Sarim and dedicated it for the use of the expected Old Testament "princes," who were now expected to be headquartered in San Diego instead of Jerusalem. [15] [16] The deed for Beth Sarim, written by Rutherford, said that the property was to be held "perpetually in trust" for the Old Testament "princes" and was to be surrendered to them once they arrived. [17] [18] It was located in the Kensington Heights section of San Diego over an area of about 100 acres (0.40 km 2 ), landscaped with olive, date, and palm trees so that the "princes" would "feel at home." [19] The 5,100 square feet (470 m 2 ) residence, designed by San Diego architect Richard S. Requa, is a ten-bedroom Spanish mansion with an adjacent two-car garage. [20] [21] [22] The building costs at the time were about $25,000 (current equivalent $343,000). [23] Writing in the book Salvation in 1939, Rutherford explained that Beth Sarim would forever be used by the resurrected "princes". [24]
Occupation [edit]
Rutherford with his Cadillac coupe in front of Beth Sarim
Beth Sarim as pictured in the Watchtower publication The Messengerin 1931
Rutherford moved into Beth Sarim in early 1930 and served as caretaker of the property awaiting the resurrection of the "princes". Newspapers of the time reported on Rutherford's lavish lifestyle, which included a 16-cylinder Fisher FleetwoodCadillac coupe. [25] [26] [27] The residence was cited by Olin R. Moyle, former legal counsel for Jehovah's Witnesses, in a letter to Rutherford in 1939, as one of the examples of "the difference between the accommodations furnished to you, and your personal attendants, compared with those furnished to some of your brethren." [28] [29] Walter F. Salter, former manager of the Canadian branch of the Watch Tower Society, also criticized Rutherford's use of Beth Sarim. [30] [31] A reply to Salter's criticisms of Rutherford was published in the May 2, 1937 Golden Age, with a photocopy of a letter from W.E. Van Amburgh, Secretary-Treasurer of the Watch Tower Society, stating: [32]
Not one cent of the funds of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society went into the construction of the home in San Diego where Judge Rutherford does his winter work. It was the gift of friends. I did not know of the existence of the house until I read of it in The Golden Age. Not one cent of the funds of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society went into either of the Cadillac cars used by Rutherford at San Diego and Brooklyn. They were the gift of friends.
The magazine Consolation (successor to The Golden Age) explained that Beth Sarim served as Rutherford's winter headquarters: [33]
For twelve winters Judge Rutherford and his office force occupied Beth Sarim. It was not used as a place of ease or vacationing, but was used as a winter workshop; the books from Vindication, Book One down to and including Children were written there, as well as many Watchtower articles and booklets. The executive instructions for branches all over the earth also were transmitted from Beth-Sarim during the Judge's presence there. At Beth Sarim, Judge Rutherford completed the 1942 Yearbook material as his last work before his death. He dictated this material from his dying bed

Not on jw.org - comments regarding bad Jehovah's Witness employees
by jwfacts ini used to be very impressed with convention experiences regarding how worldly employers would hire jws because they were known as the most honest workers.
i was too indoctrinated to realise these were selective experiences, and there are plenty of experiences of jws being dishonest in the workforce.
i have received a couple recently by email.. i have cut quite a bit out of the following email i received so that the person and company cannot be indentified, but you will get the message.. .

A particular problem with JWs in the Medical, billing and health insurance fields is lack of confidentiality. They put employers at risk of lawsuits every time they "report" a fellow JW to the Elders of being treated for anything they feel is improper for a JW or EX JW.
A sister who was a bookeeper (NOT a CPA) was constantly reporting JWs for what she thought were illegal deductions.- She was wrong on the laws.
Another Sister working in Hospital medical records had a hobby of researching anyone in the circuit who was admitted to the hospital that she knew, to see if they had a drug, alcohol, STD problem, taken Blood or had their DPA filled out correctly.
An elder who was a tax man blabbed everyones financial business.

At the time I went to Bethel they were asking for help. I signed up and was called up three weeks later. I guess for many of the same reasons young people signed up for the military after 9/11, duty etc. I also worked on many quick builds, pioneered, and went to the "need was greater" for the same reasons. Dumb kid who believed God "needed" me.
