  i watched an episode of "lie to me" on netflix that piqued my curiosity.. .

  in the episode truth or consequences, a cult leader is investigated by the irs to determine if his cult has tax exemption or not.. one of the criteria that has to be met in order to be a legitimate 'church' or 'religion' in the eyes of the irs is that the members have to display "genuine belief'.. here is the portion of the script that speaks of this:.

  Great thread OC.

  As a kid I remember claiming "we are NOT a religion".

  California (the worlds 7th largest economy) has become VERY aggressive in collecting taxes since the 08' financial crises. They have taken the lead in going after non-profits. The YMCA took a hit in years past for having lunch counters. Perhaps there is no connection, but during that case WTBTS stopped charging for food at conventions............hummmmm.

  Perhaps if someone who had inside knowledge of "profit making" scams could forward that info to CALIFORNIA tax collectors some changes might occur....

  After 50 years of being "conned", "snookered". and "hoodwincked" it simply makes me angry sometimes to be reminded that I ALLOWED myself to swallow soooo many tall tales. Some days I just need to avoid talking or even THINKING about Watchtower, theology, lost opportunities, or bad investments.

  I agree 100% that validation, and group "therapy" for WTBTS mental, physical, and emotional abuse is helpful and necessary, and the amount of time needed for that differs from person to person. But personally, I feel for many the time arrives to cut ones losses, and move forward..or the Borg will steal an ENTIRE life. My goal now is become more mindful of the present, and invest in the future- especially from 9-5.

  I bow to those who are able to juggle the past, the present, the future, and effectively assist others to "see the light".

  Purging and letting go of the past

  my wife and i decided that today would be the day that we would let go of the past.

  we collected all of our watchtower published books and brochures and threw them out.

  it was honestly bitter sweet to toss our old pioneer books, marked up insight books, and notes from 25 years of conventions.

  Remember all the AWAKE! stories about Andre trying to destroy Demo stuff? At first I tried burning it in a huge bonfire...but the volumes didn't burn well. Then I put out TWO giant recycle can for the garbage man....he refused to take them TWO times........??? I called, and they said it weighed too much.

  Soooo I loaded up my 1/2 ton Pick up truck and the springs sagged. It took TWO trips to the dump to get rid of it all.

  Perhaps it would have gone better if I had called the Elders over for a prayer session for angelic protection first....?

  New explanation of Gog of Magog: Two Gogs?

  i just finished watching the recording of the talk at the annual meeting that re-explains gog of magog.

  i caught something not previously talked about, that i can recall.. gog of magog is thought to be a coalition of nations that attach god's people during the great tribulation.

  this is from ezekiel 38 & 39.. gog and magog in revelation 20 represents those with the same attitude as gog of magog.. thus, the new teaching (maybe not new, but i'll have to research this) is that gog in ezekiel is not the same as gog in revelation 20. two different gogs, happening about a thousand years apart.. .

  Is there a comprehensive list of all public JW sex abuse cases/coverups?

  talking about an article that makes you want to throw-up in your mouth- wt-study jan 15, 2015 the offered themselves willingly.. amazing the psych job of selling your business, moving your entire family, quiting your job to be a "temporary" worker at the new world headquarters!.

  throw your livelyhood away only to get the "feeling" that jehovahs is blessing you!

  i wish there was away to track the psych job during patterson and other major projects of what happened to all the "friends" that sold and got rid of their livelyhood then and where are they now.. did you ever sacrifce it all for a building project only to be left with nothing after your "spiritual high"?.

  Why do only xian religions have soo many pedo problems ?

  im not trying to poke fun at any particular religion or show favouritism, but im having a hard time recalling similar repeated scandals in non xian religions.

  i cant recall hearing of pedo scandals in islam or buddism.

  yes i know that islam perpetrates many other evils like so call honour killings but buddhism seems to be rarely in the news for similar evils ?

  'Miracle Wheat' [edit]

  On March 22, 1911, The Brooklyn Daily Eagle published articles accusing Russell of gaining profit from a strain of wheat named "Miracle Wheat" by its alleged discoverer, K.B. Stoner of Fincastle, Virginia, which Russell sold for $60 per bushel, far above the average cost of wheat at the time. Throughout 1912 and 1913, the Eagle continued to report on Russell's alleged fraud. Russell sued the Eagle for libel, but lost. A government expert investigated the "Miracle Wheat" and said it "was low in the Government tests". Prior to entering the court, the Eagle declared that "at the trial it will show that "Pastor" Russell's religious cult is nothing more than a money-making scheme." [ 85 ] Russell defended himself publicly, and in writing, claiming that the wheat was donated to the Watch Tower Society, and although sold for $1 per pound, Mr. Stoner routinely sold it for a $1.25 per pound. Russell claimed to have no financial connection to the wheat, and that no one claimed a refund despite such an offer for up to a year later for any who were dissatisfied with their purchase. [ 86 ] In 1975, the Watch Tower Society stated that gross receipts from the "Miracle Wheat" fundraiser totaled "about $1800" (current value $46,000), of which "Russell himself did not get a penny". It also said that "the Society itself made no claim for the wheat on its own knowledge and the money received went as a donation into Christian missionary work." [ 87 ] ""

  NINJA Loans. We had a "JW" selling "as stated income" loans to all the local JW tradesmen before the 2008 crash. They gladly let the swarmy JW dummy up loans using theocratic stratigey (Lies) to get them loans to flip homes. ALL RBC big wigs.

  They would then help him do "reverse mortagages for all the seniors and widows in the local halls, take the proceeds so he could sell them high commission -low return annuities. An easy way to make 12,000 - $25,000 k from a poor widow.
