I just remembered in 1974 getting "counseled" by an elder for having sideburns a quarter inch longer than his. I was told at Bethel in 1977 that my trimmed mustache made me "unqualified to give Bethel Tours"..lol :). Watchtower has always "Strained out gnats and gulped down camels".

How Do Jehovah's Witnesses View Education?
by southyukon ini have a question about this article.. https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/jw-education-school/.
higher education can lead to moral and spiritual dangers.
a bible proverb says: "the shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself.

The "Shepherd the Flock of God" book for Elders, 2022, States: "
SITUATIONS THAT MAY REQUIRE A REVIEW OF AN APPOINTED BROTHER’S QUALIFICATIONS
"
30. He or a Member of His Household Pursues Higher Education: If an appointed brother, his wife, or his children pursue higher education, does his life pattern show that he puts Kingdom interests first in his life? Does he teach his family members to put Kingdom interests first? Does he respect what has been published by the faithful slave on the dangers of higher education?"
"How is he viewed by the congregation? Why is he or his family pursuing higher learning? Do they have theocratic goals? Does the pursuit of higher education interfere with regular meeting attendance, meaningful participation in field service, or other theocratic activities?"
These questions are asked in an Elders meeting to consider removal.

“You know how I know that they're finished out there? The carts.”
by Athanasius inthe watchtower's many legal problems and the jws' use of carts in their preaching work, reminded me of a scene and dialog from the film patton.. in a scene where patton is viewing a battle site the morning after, he says to an aide about the nazis: “you know how i know that they're finished out there?
in my dreams i saw the carts.
they kept buzzing around in my head and i couldn't figure out why.

Ahhhhhhhh. COVID gave JWs a taste of "luxurious living in the daytime"....yep SLEEPING IN on the weekends. They won't go back.
Homer Simpson said it best. "What if I picked the wrong religion, and every Sunday I just make God madder and madder? :)

JW's face certain death NOW.....
by BoogerMan in...if they openly question/disagree with a current truth from the evil faithful slave - "truths" such as this one: .
w83 10/1 p. 19 - "...a large number of the 1914 generation are still living today.
of course, their numbers are steadily dwindling, and, therefore, sometime in the near future, we confidently can expect “the end” to come...".

Nepotism and Simony
by NotFormer ini've read on here about connected families within congregations who seem to get all the "privileges".
how likely is an elder's son, or other relative, to rise within the ranks?.
i imagine it's harder to do it that way once you start to ascend the ranks.

People are people.
Greasing palms of influencing the right people will ALWAYS help...big time.
Cocktails, a nice meal, and a few clean jokes go a long way everywhere.
A free Lunch and a round of golf goes a long way.
A credit card, a couple of free dresses, and free suits to any Circuit Overseer and his wife are priceless. :)

Retirement
by jehovaxx inthe difference is now blatantly obvious, older ones who went against direction of the gb and planned for retirement have relatively more comfortable lives.. those who trusted and followed gb direction never got further education or training, pioneered or spent most of their lives knocking on doors for free, making just enough to get by in a part time job.. if you followed direction from the gb then you thought the end was just around the corner so no need to plan for retirement.. now these ones have indeed got old which they were given the impression they never would.
they are a burden on others.
the state has to pay for them in their old age.

In the late '60s, I was told by Mom and all my JW relatives I would never graduate from High School, get married, or have kids because...the end was SOOOO close!
I had a free ride to college...but all the elders counseled me to Pioneer and go to Bethel instead...because the end was any day!!
In the 80s the Elders and Circuit Overseer met with me to counsel me about my quitting pioneering and taking a full-time job with a financial firm .." in the eye of Satan's economic system" because the end was SOOOO close!
In the 80s the Elders met with me again because my " IRA and 401k showed a "lack of faith" in the end being SOOOO close".
2023.... I have been retired for years, all those elders, JW relatives, and COs are dead or in ratty government-subsidized rest homes.

Nobody else understands
by ElderBerry inif you once were fully pimi and truly believed jw doctrine to the core like i once did, when you come to the reality that it is not the truth at all it can be extremely devastating.. i think only other ex jws could ever understand.
i wasted my entire life i thought the real life was yet to come to wasted the best years knocking on doors.
now i’m so angry.. i can understand why so many top themselves when they realise it was all lies..

Elderberry, we get it. "If you once were fully PIMI and truly believed JW doctrine to the core like I once did, when you come to the reality that it is not the truth at all it can be extremely devastating.

Yes, even though we woke up 10 years ago...it was 40 + years late. I am mostly mad at myself for being conned. What adult believes in Santa?
