Anyone else watching the Leah Remini series "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath" on A&E?
by NikL inmy wife and i started to watch this last night and have covered only 2 episodes so far but it is really interesting.. there are so many similarities between scientology and wt.
not in beliefs of course but in their shunning, of their version of apostates etc.. it was amusing for me to see my active jw wife watch and get all indignant.
at one point a statement was made that a religion "shouldn't separate families" and she muttered to herself "absolutely not".. i am kind of hoping that jws will watch and see what is being carried on by a high control cult and eventually recognize it in their own lives.

Another "pull the football away just before you can kick it" comment made by Circuit Assembly's special guest, Thomas Chicky
by sir82 ini started a thread on this guy's comments about building kingdom halls here.. the guy also said this (again, not a word for word quote, but the gist of his comments):.
"the primary hope of salvation is the resurrection.
jehovah does not promise anyone that he will survive armageddon.

Many, after decades of being told Armageddon was soon and the preaching work was so important will fall back on the old favorite:
Where else would we go?
---
The painful, yet truthful answer is so simple.
You could have had your own life. Those still in:
You still can have your own life. -

So what one does or how one chooses to live doesn't really matter then does it?
( Hey, even Hitler might get a Resurrection )---

Song Book changes and new light?
by kairos ini was just thinking, did new song books precede periods of jw doctrinal changes?.
the latest songbook ( 2009 ) came out just before the maniacal rebranding of watchtower into jw.'org..
what about previous generations?

I believe the music is more important than we can imagine.
People like singing and hearing music.I you take that from them, not only will they be upset, but I believe that the relearning the songs leaves them confused and subdued for fear of singing in error in front of everyone.
This sets the stage for doctrinal change. What's one more little 'adjustment', right? Unfamiliar songs leave one discouraged and deflated, as their confidence and self esteem are lessened.
By the time you figure it out, in my case, many years have passed.
Think about this: If god is leading this, why does the music suck?
---
Part of my awakening was because of all of the CHANGE.
If we have the truth, why change it?Then there is the dumbing down of all the other things.
The content of the literature is pathetic. It's embarrassing to review older WT mags and books and think that we thought this was not only scholarly work, but spirit directed. Yikes!

What about previous generations? ( not overlapping )
When the last songbook ( 1984 ) arrived on the world scene ( I want this to sound dubby ) did it come before new and exciting revelations from the slave, that won't actually be appointed until after the great tribulation and not until they study the Feb 2017 WT, are not inspired... -

Not Inspired?
by kairos inthe head, jesus christ, supplies the body members with what is needed for good cooperation, coordination, and spiritual nourishment.
in such respects, the governing body is organized to take the lead as jehovah directs them by holy spirit.. 2008 wt 5/15 pg 29. the party's over....

The point of the quote from the 2008 WT is that they clearly claim divine direction from Jesus, Jehovah and the holy spirit.
Modern JWs are running around in circles with 'important' work to do and have no idea what they personally believe.
The idea of following the GB even if :
At that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from Jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint. All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.
https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/w20131115/seven-shepherds-eight-dukes/ ( par 17 )
We find that following the GB is not practical, sound or strategic ( from a human standpoint?)
Jws are trapped or they will be shunned for disagreeing with lies from the GB.Quite ironic.

Knock knock."Who's there? Two elders!!
by Darkknight757 inso today was a cold and snowy day in my neck of the woods and the wife and i were just chilling around the house waiting to go to the church tonight for a candle lighting service when lo and behold we get a knock on the door.
yup, 2 elders from my old hall.
i figured they were fishing for some time so i invited them in and gave them some coffee and we talked about everything that happened and why we walk away from the jw's.

the Feb 2017 WT, GB not inspired, etc quote would have been golden.

Elder wants to stop by with the CO for a visit .
by NikL inso i got a text from an elder who i consider one of the good guys and a friend in his own way.. he asked if he could bring the co by for a visit.
he said it would be "just a pleasant call and visit and will hopefully encourage my wife".
he says that "he knows she is dealing with a ton of pressure".. in all my years around the organization, i never had a visit from the circuit overseer.

Is it OK to just say, "we don't want a visit. No thank you?"

Lunch today with.. JW step father....
by raven init has been a while since i've posted, i think its because i have finally gotten some peace and quiet as far as harassment from the jw elders.. my step father, the one who reported me to the elder police for a sinful act invited me to lunch today.. it has been almost a year since the incident, we have talked here and there, it has been just casual though.
he says he is in town for work and asked if i would like to meet up for lunch, i couldn't think of any excuses so i agreed.. i hope it goes well, hope that we don't go into the jw nonsense.
hope he doesn't bring elders with him, am i paranoid or what?

To DA is your decision only.
I look back and wish I did five years ago when I first started sniffing around.
I no longer was reaching out. Wished I wasn't a MS and was not interested in being an elder at all. I've been away from the meetings for over three years, now. Df'd for 15 months. Now I have peace.JWs are no longer relevant to me.
