For me CoC certainly helped to solidify TTATT, but what got me going was the UN NGO articles.

Have you ever given CoC to a JW to read? Or any other "red pill" book?
by Captain Obvious ini recently ordered a copy of coc for my wife.
she doesn't know it exists, but i'm hoping she's ready to read it.
it seems to be the best red pill out there.

Sorry to bump an old thread but had this mentioned for the first time EVER in our hall last night with no scriptural explanation whatsoever.
The elder was doing the bible highlights and discussed the nazirites who grew their hair long to show subjection to jehovah. He read the scripture where it pointed this out and then without pointing to any other scripture said and I quote: "Notice it says nothing about not taking a blade to their faces!!! That's why we don't have beards!!!"
The faces in the hall were a picture of 'did he really just say that?!
I scoffed quite audiably as it was so ridiculous.

Question for Jehovah's Witnesses: Can you ask for the aid of the holy spirit?
by opusdei1972 inthere are interesting claims in the watctower, august 2014:.
2 today, jehovah guides his people by means of the bible, his holy spirit, and the congregation.
(acts 9:31; 15:28; 2 tim.

Hey Doc I see what your saying but about them poo pooing this with regards to new light but just last night an elder made use of a 52 watchtower and specifically.asked if the reference on return visits was still valid? Clearly he answered yes because it doesn't contradict latest new light. So it seems as long as older publications are in agreement with new light, then they can still used for valid reasoning.
I believe the term cherry picking comes to mind :)

This is nothing new really. I remember about 15 years ago travelling with my gran to Port Talbot in South Wales to watch a travelling witness choir. It attracted hundreds of witnesses and they were literally travelling the entire UK. Very good they were as well.

Hi Hustle and welcome.
Very similar to Magnums first post, when I first found information detrimental to my staying in 'the truth' I prayed for Jehovah to answer my doubts, to help me see that what I'd discovered was false in some way. A few months down the line and I'm still waiting on an answer. In fact if anything my conviction that this shambles of a 'religion' is not specially chosen for bugger all, has been even more solidified.
All the best in your fade and I hope things don't become too difficult with your family

In my congregation there seems to be a bit of a buzz about the whole campaign. A large percentage are pioneering, including most elders (as per BOE letter request)
Previous to that I have found most simply going through the motions of attending meetings and going on the service. Its always been the same few who've always pioneered.
All in all the whole 100 year spiel has done three trick but I very much doubt it will last much beyond the middle of September. Half the hall are on some kind of disability so they need to get back to their mostly imagined physical problems which keeps them occupied otherwise.

Strange concepts
by lurkernomore ini don't know why this popped in my head earlier today but here goes:.
satan apparently blinds the eyes of un-believers towards the 'truth'.
this point has been discussed both at meetings and during discussions with others in the congregation over the years.

I totally agree with your summary Apog.
But surely an individual's traits as a human being are more often than not determined by the environment their brought up in. No one has choice in the matter of being born therefore negative influences which one is exposed to has to have an affect on the way they behave and view situations in life, whether this means being susceptible to wanting more riches due to a poor upbringing or settling disputes with their fists rather than their tongue.
It seems that the witness concept is basically putting the blame on the individual then as they are the ones allowing Satan to influence them further in their selfish or wrong inclinations. That would then make Satan seem more of a side line player if anything.

But Jehovah is said to seek out deserving ones, by reading their heart condition etc.
If Satan (an arguably far superior being to Humans) is capable of blinding un-believers, and Jehovah allows this to happen, then surely that would absolve them of their sinful actions and the destruction of everyone but Witnesses would be a false claim. Aswell as this it would make the need to seek out 'deserving ones' redundant as that's surely what the ransom sacrifice was there for.
Any thoughts on this or any other concepts that don't really add up to you lovely people?!

Hello
by lurkernomore ini thought it was high time to introduce myself (without my name of course).
as my name would suggest i have been reading your intriguing post, thoughts and discussions for some time now.
around 3/4 months to be exact.. i guess to start with it would seem fitting to give a little background on my current situation.. i'm a born-in, but have over the last few years found that through a number of varying occurences, (some of which i may discuss in future posts) that my 'zeal' has gone from regular field service and meetings to no service in over a year and very sporadic meeting attendance.

Hi ABS, as I mentioned in earlier posts my wife has always had issues with a lot of things the society does and teaches. This was mainly down to experiences she had whilst growing up both with her family and others in the congregation she's originally from.
There was a time when I would try to help her 'see sense' lol, and that individuals are imperfect yadda yadda yadda. Makes me feel a bit embarrassed to think I ever stuck up for it all.
Most of her immediate family are out now too so that makes things easier for us both now and in the future too hopefully.
If you take a quick look at my previous post it explains a little more about it. Basically I'm quite lucky compared to most experiences I've read on here.
In my case most my immediate family locally are still very much in apart from my ageing grandad who's I his late 80's now.
I'll post some more in depth details about myself in the coming days. I've almost run out of posts for today, didn't even realise there was a limit till a couple hours ago... oops.
