How the Bible disproves the JWs' 1914 invisible presence doctrine.
by Island Man inwatchtower teaches jws that christ's presence began invisibly in 1914. they also teach that the start of christ's presence coincides with the start of the last days.
whether you believe in the bible or not, watchtower claims these teachings come from the bible.
so does the bible actually agree with them?

I was just discussing this excellent thread with my wife. During our last convention in 2014 we were perplexed by the constant mention of '100 years of Christ's rule'.
We had always been told Jesus would reign for 1000 years post armageddon. If he has in fact already reigned for 100 years then that would only leave 900 years providing the big A came that year. Seems like the orgs writers are getting confused on this whole 1914 and Christ's reign business.

No Sports Cars Please!
by snugglebunny ini read on a jw forum that jw's came in for disapproval if they drove either sports cars or 2-door cars.
the reasoning was that a driver couldn't easily take fellow dubbies out preaching in such a vehicle.
was that ever official policy or just local nonsense from a grumpy po?.

Never heard of this unwritten rule. There were a few lads in our hall as I was growing get up. We had lots of 2 door cars between us, but still managed to squeeze in when going door to door as well as trips to parties and the occasional centre parks trip.
I really miss my 2.2 litre Honda Prelude!

Fishing and JW's???
by lurkernomore inso i was just reading a thread and came across a completely new jw 'rule', that of not being allowed to go fishing!..
at least it's new to me as i always enjoyed fishing as did others in my old congregation.
anyone else heard of this or had this imposed on them in they're jw lives?.

Hey Diog yes it was your comment where I picked up on this nonsense. I was really surprised by this. The elders in our hall who fly fish have been doing so for a good 20 years so would have expected there to be some talk about this at some point.
Your comment was the first I ever heard of this.
I was also told the surf story but never really believed it. Saying that I always had nightmares about demons in my room and nights where I couldn't even go to sleep for fear of them when I was a child. This cult really messes with people doesn't it!!!

@Daniel1555
I totally agree with you, JW opinion aside I don't agree with hunting or fishing for sport. I've always fished to eat. The fact that I found it enjoyable was a bonus.

There's at least two elders in my old Hall who regularly used to fly fish so never came across this prohibition.
I suppose it's another case if going beyond what's written as well as imposition of self importance in some cases.

What is your relationship with ALCOHOL?
by nicolaou inhere in the uk new drinking guidelines have been issued which suggest "no more than 14 units a week - equivalent to six pints of beer or seven glasses of wine.".
another piece of the advice which is getting a lot of attention is that "if people drink, it should be moderately over three or more days and that some days should be alcohol-free.".
already people are making cries of "nanny state!

I tend to mostly drink socially.
I will only drink at home if we have something I like. If there's a good bottle of red wine it generally won't last the night. I also love a drop of single malt or honey jack but I would never drink a whole bottle, maybe a couple doubles a night till its gone. Being German, beer needs to be of good, generally German/Belgian/Dutch/French quality. I can happily go without alcohol for weeks at a time.
I also find I drink different drinks depending on the time of year. In warmer weather I prefer an ice cold beer/ale or a good sweet cider such as thatchers. Red wine and whisky is definitely more of a winter warmer for me.

My First post
by Simple Minds ini have been lurking on this site for 3 years and this is my fist post.
i would like to thank everyone for helping me wake up.
i was baptized at 24, married at 25, ms for 18 years mentally in for 24 years but started to wake up 3 years ago doing research to give public talks, and the actions of arrogant and narcissistic brothers and sisters did not help.
