Knowing good and bad and being judged for it...

the belief is that god created the tree of the knowledge of good and bad right?

but then forbid adam and eve to eat from it because if they did they would understand good and bad.... the belief also is that either at death or armageddon we will be judged as to whether we have been good or bad.... so it seems that god did not want humans to have the knowledge of how to be good or bad in the first place but still wants to judge them on it?!?.

i always thought when reading that part of the bible " what would have been so wrong for humans to have that knowledge in the beginning?

I believe that is what's called beingset up to fail?

Photosynthesis and the problem with the creation story

i just noticed in the bible that on day three, god created the plants and trees on the earth.... day four, god created the sun, moon and stars!

so that means that the vegetation that is by its very nature dependant upon light to grow and photosynthesise was created a day before the sun that it needs to live!???.

this gets even more strange when you factor in the jw exhuse that a day to god is like a thousand years.

This means (evidently- yes I used that word) that the sunlight dependant vegetation was not only created without the sun but also survived without the sun for a thousand years!

Why bother creating all the other galaxies?

i'm still reading and researching the bible.

a thought occurred to me... the universe is so huge and full yet most of it cannot be seen by the naked human eye.. while jw's could claim that god created the stars to look pretty/ for navigation... what about the rest that cannot be seen?

the huge never ending mass of universe that the bronze age writers of the bible had no idea about?.

What was the point of creating all that? I mean its not like humans can easily go visit and explore it all. The gaseous nebulas out there and lack of oxygen mean that humans cannot live out there without man made technology.

So again what was the point of making it all? From a bible apologists and jw viewpoint of course...

It's my birthday! Woweee! I'm celebrating it too! I've got a cake and brought myself presents ( although I haven't gone to the extremes of wrapping them up)

Amazingly enough my parents accepted it, I told them why shouldn't I celebrate having lived X amount of years of life? And they agreed that since I was celebrating being alive X amount of years then its OK, they also agreed that the WT's doctrine on birthdays is very loose and jars with the celebration of wedding anniversary's ( why one and not the other)

So huge progress all in all!

The Oesophagus of the whale shark and the story of Jonah

in the wt's literature it is often theorised that the "great fish" that swallowed jonah was a whale shark.

indeed looking at whale sharks with their wide huge mouths it seems reasonable to think that a human could fit in there.... ... until that is you do any research on it.

while the whales mouth is huge, it's oesophagus however is only a few inches wide.

... Until that is you do any research on it. While the whales mouth is huge, it's Oesophagus however is only a few inches wide. Nowhere near big enough to fit a human! For that matter the whale shark only feeds on small fare like plankton and small fish. It has 10 filter pads to make sure it can't swallow anything big.

It is easy to see how a primitive bronze age human could have seen one of these creatures and thought it could swollow them whole but with modern understanding we know that that isn't the case.

...just yet another gaping hole in the bible's stories!

I can't believe that they would only do this in just one country, they must be doing it in others or at least planning to.

If they do this in my country then my names gonna be on that list.

In a way this could be a good thing. When therealise the extent of the numbers who have faded it could frighten them into changing?

Nearly Killing My Mother Wasn't Enough !

as some of you might have read last week, my mother had extremely low hemoglobin and without it, she would have died.

i have somehow managed to bring her to reason and accept the transfusion.

it saved her life.

I would make sure everyone in her hall knows what has happened and how she was treated and why she is being DF'd. It might stop some of them from shunning and may get some of them thinking...

Pioneering

i`ve heard many pioneers claim that they are deserving of material things because they are the ones who make all the sacrifices.

one claimed that jehovah had made sure that she got absolutely everything she wanted right down to shelfs so she could put up pic`s of her family because, to quote "we are so deserving, we`ve made the sacrifice".

mind you this is the same sister who told me "it`s harder for me having my son d.fs than for a mother loosing her child in death".

I remember being nagged by a pioneer couple for money every meeting and if not nagging then it was guilt tripping and sometimes even directly asking me how much I earnt!

Strange though, the wife had a thing about cath kidson and their house was full of cath kidson stuff? ( for those that don't know, cath kidson - very pricey designer homewards)

How to give an anti witness on the ministry?

i haven't turned in a report for months now.

but if the elders start on me to go back out in the ministry i was thinking of giving an anti witness instead.

by which i mean rather than the mags i could tell the house holder about the "loving provision of disfellowshipping" or maybe read them some of the many scriptures were god tells his people to commit ethnic cleansing, total genocide and raping of the captured girls.

And lastly what about that oh so encouraging scripture in revelation were it paints a graphic picture of the dead bodies laying everywhere after Armageddon and the birds pecking their eyeballs out?

How does God measure up to the definition of love at 1st Corinthians?

we all know the famous scripture of 13:4-8. the wt uses it to show how jw's ought to behave and think.

it's like a golden standard.. but i was thinking, how does god himself measure up to this standard?

in the bible it clearly states that god is jealous.

But I was thinking, how does God himself measure up to this standard? In the bible it clearly states that God is jealous. What about bragging? Getting "puffed up?" Easily become provoked? Keep account of injury?

I believe (especially in the old testament) that God does not exhibit any of these qualities at all.
